Toyota Fuel Economy Survey

There isnt a separate gearbox. but if I'm not wrong there is some sort of transmission built inside the hybrid motor

and it needs transmission oil change too right?

Not really, it's supposed to be for the life time of the vehicle. The owner's manual does not indicate transmission fluid changes anywhere. There's almost no oil in it. Check out youtube for videos where they take apart the HSD. Less than half a litre of lube will spill out. The earlier HSDs used a chain, which required lube. But mine uses direct drive all the way, and the majority of the reduction is done by the motors, themselves maintenance free.

That's a great achievement compared to reliability issues of normal Toyota super CVT-i transmissions.

Seems that fuel economy is one of the key concerns lankans have when owning a car. Whilst each person rightfully can have concerns on fuel economy, it also shows how pathetic it is to own a car and, once owned then worry about how many km it can run for 1ltr of fuel. I think government should seriously give priority to public transport in all possible modes (road, rail and water). In the meantime, it is good to enjoy the car of your choice, and stop worrying about km/ltr mentality. Car pooling with like-minded office colleagues is a good thing to try, who may come from the same direction.

8-10 km/l in colombo city traffic

14-16 km/l in outstation

Final average 12.0 km/l . (this is perfect figure well measured)
