Good on him

And i would completely disagree with the view of seniors here.

Safety aspect of wearing a seat belt is not the issue here.

all media outlets including government media announced that the law is applicable only for english plated vehicles.

So it's pretty darn obvious the cop was trying to be a j***a$$ and abuse his authority. Nothing new to many people who drive in SL on a daily basis.

After having seen hundreds of cussard cops in my life... i dont see why people have to take this kinda behavior from any police officer.

If you haven't broken the law you have every bloody right contest it. And i would say it's great wehn people contest it even after taking the challenge on and going through the hassle. If everybody start taking things lying down when they are not at fault, how can this sorta issues be ever fixed???

It's irrelevant how things happen in other countries cos this aint another country and we are not aliens here. The cops are there thanks to our taxes and at no point we should tolerate them taking and twisting the law to their liking.

Agreed. The problem here isn't the OP wearing a seat belt of not. It's the police officer overstepping his boundries. A few days back, during rush hour at the railway crossing on castle street, I saw a guy try to make a U-turn at the crossing. Now he was wrong to make a u-turn there but no one let him through even though bot his life and the lives of others were at risk during that time. Then while everyone kept passing him a ministers jeep with MSD back up vehicles stopped and the MSD people were yelling at him with guns drawn. While the guy was wrong to try to make the turn there, clearly there was no need for four people to draw their weapons on him.

Then there's the junction where ethul kotte road meets parliment road. Each day there are about two police officers at night who only pull over motorcycles anfd trishaws. People should know the place it's where they sell concrete items like septic tanks. They just take the person they pulled over out of view and make the "exchange."

And lets not forget how these MSD people who are in reality police officers break all the rules and put everyone in harms way while escorting MPs. Should I also mention how many police people i've seen run red lights even though there clearly wasn't an emergency?

The problem here isn't with the laws and such, it's the selective enforcement of laws and police overstepping their bounderies.

I just saw a very disturbing video of a certain politician slapping a civilian infront of a school.... While his MSD guards have him covered

Kind of Funny..

One of my friends had a WP 300-XXXX plates in his car [previous owner had fixed new plastic sticker number plates with WP in front of the number to give some look] today, one cop had warned him to remove the "wp" letters from the number plates. :action-smiley-060:

I know couple of other guys who has "WP" in front of the digits in the car plates. I'm sure they will remove those letters from the plates soon :angry-smiley-048:

nothing new ne machang.

Just days after that dompe suspect died in police custody...today another suspect has died in bolgoda...again while in police custody.

so much for rule of law, due process etc...they might as well send all the judges home cos cops are doing that job too.

When the very people who are under oath to uphold the law break it in broad daylight...how can they expect people to have any respect for them.

A country's rule of law is one of the biggest concerns if it plans on developing itself both financially and socially and by all indicators, we're going nowhere.

just imagine what would have happened if the poor fellow tried to defend himself.

Looks like there's gonna be a point where you cannot live unless u know someone powerful.

The ones who are protesting vehemently over the SL police enforcing the Seat Belt rule normally wear their seat belts like little pussycats in other countries... :)

mehe thamai okkoma pada show... sudda kiwwama 'yes sir' kiyala Belt eke oluweth daa gannawa.

Mee harak

The seat belt is there to protect your own life. No one should have to ENFORCE it.

If you don't want to use it, then keep paying the fine until your license is cancelled and then take the bloody bus.

kathaa karapan! seriously, man. i was thinking the exact same thing! i guess our buggers would rather hug the airbag when it blows and take a nice nap...

Some of us drive older vehicles. Even with the best intentions there are instances where wearing the seat belt is simply forgotton (no alarms beeping as a warning). I could be paranoid but could the system be trying to dicourage usage of old vehicles? It seems that motoring is becoming a tedious task and sometimes I feel it is better to take public transport even though they are jam packed..

You need an alarm to tell you to buckle up? Do you need an alarm to wash your butt also? Or wear a condom? Or wear a helmet when riding a bike? (I forgot, riding helmets are worn simply to keep the cops off your back, not to protect your head)

just occurred to me that a possible reason why many people resist seat belts is that they have never had a personal experience of it's benefits

and as a result, when they finally do have an experience in which a seatbelt would have been useful, they don't live to tell the tale :action-smiley-060:
