The thing is the Premio fanboys will not accept anything else other than a Premio even if it is from Toyota. Heck..it is amusing to see all the things they say about the Allion; and to think the Allion is the SAME car !

Okay...so here is another easy one...hint....the dolphin hump like bonnet should make it quite obvious.

@iRage can't be as straight forward as a Mark X could it??

We saw one at the Ceylon Motorshow way back in 2014/2015 and wife wanted to go check it out at the showroom. If I remember right it shared the platform of the SX4 or something like that and was the replacement for the SX4 Sedan (and a larger Aerio) to compete against the Corolla. It wasn't the usual cheap Maruti Suzuki either...probably one of the first Maruti Suzukis to actually have a bit of refinement. Anyway....never bought one....decided to rescue a mark X from a neglecive-home instead :D

@iRage the petrols shared some SX4 components but this might be on the Kizashi platform

The Mark X is a completely different kind of animal ? but for something Indian, its simply brilliant!

It's more refined than the Corolla 141 diesel 2C Toyotas, which conceptually is similar to what is offered in one sense given the general simplicity (but with the addition of the SHSV stop start tech but it doesn't have an additional battery so it doesn't have the issue of folks having to worry about replacing an expensive hybrid battery which every subcontinental used car buyer dreds lol)

Lexus SC430?

Do we have any in SL ? But no....

Neither the Mark X nor the SC has such a high hump (which is quite obvious towards the front-end where the groove-up is quite high and the front tapering is quite sharp)

We do indeed!

We have one for certain - saw it about 2 weeks ago parked opposite the JLR showroom on Flower Road.

It was initially imported by someone who gets down interesting cars & then later used for ages by an advertising industry exec.

Name recognition is an issue though - most people aren't familiar with the car :( So many of my friends have been completely stumped - so prospective buyers also often end up needing an introduction to the model

Maybe you should do a youtube video on the Ciaz....

or get that dude from El@k1r1 he would blabber on about ' fafomans and fuuul economy and godak ispeshas interior ekak tianawa' and remark the car is manual, has 4 seats, 4 wheels, a steering wheel, ac vents and a speedometer.

@matroska tbh, would you believe i forgot the Premio & Allion ?‍♂️

That's how little i think of them ?? Marketing fail on my part right there?

I'm astounded by the space! Even with the drivers seat pushed all the way back there is still enough space for an adult to sit behind comfortably.

The boot space is generous for something in that class

Real shame given how impressive a car it is - yes it is Indian built but it is so refined to the point that most passengers can't even tell it's a diesel!

Dont get me wrong, but the old Baleno was a far better car when compared to the competition those days. It had a cracker engine in the 1.6l and was so good on fuel. Sadly as you say the masses were not ready for it. The build quality although bit plasticy was good and didnt have the dashboard cracking etc found in the later Liana / Aerio etc. It was a good solidly built car that never got the recognition it deserved.

The Ciaz if memory serves right had its fair share of issue with the Fiat sourced engine, but deffa a good looker which the Baleno was never was in the sedan iteration.

True @Gummybr Suzuki had some solid but underrated cars

Even things like the Cultus were quite decent but never caught on

As for the Ciaz & the engine - i've read of this Fiat connection as well & i think people infer this unfair connection to how the Linea performs which actually isn't an accurate parallel at all. I've had passengers who have tried the Linea as well who confirm that even the way the power is delivered feels completely different.

I don't know how far reaching the connection to FCA is because most of the components in the Ciaz, which i noted when it was being serviced at A*W PitStop earlier this month, was that they were Japanese DENSO

I recently bumped in to a long term Ciaz owner while picking up some Hella wiper blades from Motorcade & he seemed to echo the same sentiment of another friend's friend who has put over 150k kms on one of these that they're really robust.

The Team BHP long term reviews of the Ciaz also seem to back up that theory :)

Verossa?

Nope....the Verossa has a narrower "hump" and even then the front tapering is not that sharp...nor is the hump so high (I never thought I would say the word hump this many times on AL forums)

I'd go and say Lexus IS250

Okay...I will give it to you on the basis you identified it to be an IS. Its not an IS250 or an IS3xx....Its an actual  E20 series Lexus IS F with all 400+hp V8 goodness.

image.png.8733caf58bf3b953a06e96fc439984c7.png

Fun fact: The IS F when being tested was tested with a chopped up Crown body stuck on the IS frame :) (around 2004-2005). It was tested with a 1UR-FSE engine putting about 385hp and many thought it would be a IS500 in coupe' form (it also lead to rumors of a V8 powered Crown :D and well as rumors of Toyota sticking a super charger on the 1UR for added power.) However, later on in 2006 the world saw the IS F with a 2UZ-GSE pushing 400-416hp :)

Pics of the test mule :)

Over to @Gummybr

It was the duty @AVANTE

 - Suzuki upgraded the drive train to a 1.6L petrol & 1.5 diesel from the original 1.3 &1.25 which meant they ended up being priced over 7 Million

There are more cars of the first few batches they imported running around very well - they don't often come up for sale as most tend to hang on to them for the simplicity & fuel economy alone.

It's a car that has proven itself to be one of the top picks in that class in India so if it can survive there Sri Lanka should be cinch! lol

It has been quite a revelation & quite a pleasant surprise tbh

You're spot on about the ride being so supple!

The mid range response is perfect when nipping around thanks to the turbo

This particular specimen has done just 56,000 kms - had a full A*W inspection done & everything was copacetic. The only thing that specifically needed replacement was an O ring from the diesel filter which is a replacement part anyway when swapping out all the filters.

Whats the reason for sale? Going for something fancier?

BTW how's the interior build quality over time? Does it rattle?

Nothing! Interior 5 years on feels solid - the one complain are that a a couple of the AC louvre / vent adjusters have come undone so adjusting the direction is a bit of a pain but bar that all copacetic! ?

Do you still have the ad on the Z? The description.

Im sure you get this all the time, but do you miss the Z?

They are all the rage on the fanboy pages across social media. And asking CRAZY money. A red(NA) example was asking me 7mil.  They sell fast too.

I remember you mentioning on old old threads that it took a lot of time to move,

such a sexy car though, If I say so myself. Tad overhyped though.

Hmmm very rarely do I miss it tbh - like a lot of things in life, it was good while it lasted

That particular car made a terrific sound so with the T-tops off it was quite pleasant to boot it! Exhaust overrun on lift off.... Good times

The prices have tripled so as an investment i'd have done well to hold on to mine

They have been moving but the one you mention is at a car sale - they overpaid at auction i feel

Yeah mine took a while to move - the fact that it was strict two seater (in fact the only coupe) was an issue for some. Back then the market for cars like these wasn't quite as hot as it is now which is odd considering the war had just ended & things were just about starting to pick up

It's a good looking thing - still is but over the past decade since I sold it i've learned that i'm happier behind the wheel of something AWD & turbocharged, preferably with a flat four up front ;)
