Recommended Posts

my friend is having an idea of going for Civic ES5, he wants me to help him but i have no idea about civic or any other Honda vehicle. what are your opinions about this car?

1. is this model available both in 1500CC and 1600CC?

2. from which year the face lift is available?

is aw some advertisements claiming a fuel consumption of : City - 10 km/l

Outstation- Above 13.5 km/l

can this be true?

3. does this have similar leg room and interior space as the corolla?

4.is this the model that came before this shape http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=50604

5. if any of you own or have driven one could tell me about the performance

6. what do you think about installing a bodykit like this http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=50731?'>http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=50731? is it too low? will knock too much? (in kandy)

7. finally one car Vtec engine http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=50731 and the other VTi engine http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=51006 which engine is better?

Please do correct me if I am wrong.

1. is this model available both in 1500CC and 1600CC? - ES5 is 1600 cc. ES1 and ES8 come in 1500 cc

2. from which year the face lift is available? - 2003/04

is aw some advertisements claiming a fuel consumption of : City - 10 km/l

Outstation- Above 13.5 km/l

can this be true? - Yes

3. does this have similar leg room and interior space as the corolla? - More. Specially the rear

4.is this the model that came before this shape http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=50604 - model, yes. but again depends on the year. The 'face lift' version was the one directly preceding the car depicted

5. if any of you own or have driven one could tell me about the performance - driven one briefly. own a es8. Performance is subjective, but it does pick up quite well

6. what do you think about installing a bodykit like this http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=50731?'>http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=50731? is it too low? will knock too much? (in kandy) - link doesn't open

7. finally one car Vtec engine http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=50731 and the other VTi engine http://autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=51006 which engine is better? VTi is a trim\version (similar to Xli or Gli for 121) means the car has a V-Tec engine. So both are effectively the same

ES8 is the older model of ES5 right?

Hi bro,

Here is the trium levels for the ES chassis (Gurus..Please correct me if I'm wrong)

ES1 - Japanese Domestic 1.5 Litre , also found in 1.7 Litre @ Asian Domestic model and USDM (US Domestic Model)

ES2 - N/A (No Such model)

ES3 - Japanese Domestic 1.7 Litre (FL Grade)

ES4 - N/A

ES5 - Export Premium Model 1.6 Litre

ES6 - N/A

ES8 - Export Basic Model 1.5 Litre

So you may u'tand that ES8 & ES5 are two different trim levels. AFAIK ES1 / ES5 & ES8 released their face lifted versions after 2004(there are some late 2003 cars also)

If you make a search on forums with keyword 'ES5' you can get more clarifications coz this topic is discussed sometime back.

First of all, there are two variants that came in the 2001-2006 Civic. Namely, VTi and EXi. VTi is 1600cc while as EXi is 1500cc. Apart from that, there are further two variants in both VTi and EXi. Namely, Manual Transmission and Prosmatec (Progressive Shift Management Technology) Transmission. Prosmatec Transmission is just a fancy name used by Honda for Automatec Transmission. Then comes the top of the line model in this Civic and that is the Civic Vti Oriel. It's 1600cc and with Sunroof, Drivers' Seat Height Adjustment option, Retractable Side mirrors etc. The VTEC engine is in the VTi varaint of this Civic. VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is a technology developed by Honda which gives better fuel economy at lower rpms' and high power output at higher rpms'. But in the 2001-2006 Civics', the VTEC technology used is the VTEC-E head which is only to give a better fuel economy. I own an ES1 Civic VTi since the last year and i am pretty much satisfied with it. The car is overall spacious from inside and its interior is better than the Corolla XLi/GLi according to me. The Civic VTi has a D16w9 motor under its hood which pulls 127 horses while as the Civic Exi has a D15y8 motor under its hood which pulls around 110hp. It goes 0-100 in around 12secs. And believe me, the 2001-2006 Civic VTi Manual is the fastest car in the 1600cc category if comparing with Corolla 1.6, Lancer 1.6, Baleno 1.6. And as far as its mileage is concerned, it's something around 10-12kmpl. I hope this pretty much sums it up all for the 2001-2006 Civic. And the facelifted model was launched in 2003-2004. And dont go for a bodykit, a lipkit with a nice set of rims and a little drop will look dope.

1. No the VTi also came in 1500cc

2. There's more than 2 variants with regards to tranny; manual, automatic and CVT automatic

3. The 'premium Oriel' isn't the only version with retractable mirrors and height adjustable seating :D:P

Not really. 2001-2006 Civic VTi's were 1600cc and EXi's were 1500cc. No 2001-2006 Civic VTi's had 1500cc motors. The previous models' of Civic VTi (before 2001) had 1500cc motors in them. And as far as CVT transmission is concerned, that only came in the Hybrid variant of this model. And as i have mentioned earlier, Automatic Transmission is known as the Prosmatec Transmission from 2001 onward models of Honda Civic. Also, the Civic VTi and Civic VTi Oriel is equipped with ABS.

The 6 Gen Civic came with a CVT box. No 7 Generation Civic came with a CVT box. The Prosmatec Transmission is somewhat similar to CVT but its not completely CVT. 7 Gen Civic had 3 transmissions; Namely, 4-speed automatic, 5-speed manual and 6-speed manual.

The ES series started in 2000 so I guess you must be the Ek series when you say previous models. And technically weren't they called Vi?

I'm driving a 2000 ES8 that's Vti and got both a 1500cc engine and a CVT tranny. How do i know this? Well.. the chassis swear its a ES, the engine swears its 1500cc and gear box screams "CVT" :P :P

By previous model, i simply mean the 6 Gen. Honda Civic. And i dont know how you are driving a 2000 ES8 Civic when the Model Years clearly mentioned everywhere for the 7 Gen. Civic are 2001–2005. By the way, i am referring to the PKDM Civic which was assembled in Pakistan. Specs. may differ from the version of Civic you're having (JDM Ferio one i presume).

Thats funny because the very first of the ES generation were 2000 Models, at least those that were released in Sri Lanka anyway. Surprising eh?

Well PKDM specs aren't really what the poster was asking were they? He's based in Sri Lanka after all... This isn't Pakwheels, its AutoLANKA.

Well you learn something new everyday, always though the major automakers only concentrated on the large markets i.e. JDM, USDM, Euro and had generic models for other makets like SL.. Hence never heard of SLDM or PKDM. Thanks for the info
