Bit of an odd topic.

What are the normal or standard fees for consulting a Specialist doctor in Sri Lanka? Is it cheaper out side Colombo? Do they spend at least 10min with you?

Is this the first time that you are going to channel a doctor in here? There is no standard charge, It depends on the doctor and the Hospital. Spending time is also depend on the type of the ailment and the doctor.

Fees differs regarding the hospital and the specialty (At least between Rs. 800.00 - Rs. 2500.00. And extra for additional checkups). And the time is defending on the situation of the patient. As jaga said.

Also there is an j e-channeling system in sri lanka. You can find out channeling fees too when making appointment with it. Also its little expensive (I think few hundreds) than normal procedure. I think the web site charges some for the service.

PS: some hospitals allows you to make an appointment through telephone...

Only very few doctors here willing to spend 10 min here.Usually they take about 2 min and that time some how you need to explain everything.I took my pregnant wife to one of the very reputed gynecologist he never took more than 1 min to talk with her until we mention to him we are going to PAYING WARDS.Then smile came from the doc and spent about 5 mins.

So most of the docs are so GREEDY and only thing matter to them MONEY!!!

me too, this is the best way so far to channel a Doc. charges depends on the Doc and Hospital, there will be only 100-200 additional charges for the e-channeling service. what i do is get the information from the website and do the process through the dialog. dial 225 if you are using a dialog post-pay connection.

Yes website chargers Rs 120 for a booking. I use every time when I need to channel a doctor. No issues yet. But I have never used the dialog channeling service. How much does it cost?

Basically its one centralized system developed by eChanneling, and even Mobit*l offers this as a service IIRC. So it does not matter which medium you use to access it (eChannling.com, use your mobile if your operator offers it as a service or go to the hospital and get an appointment) you would getting the next available number. If you use your mobile, the operator (Dial*g, Mobit*l etc.) would charge a premium rate for the call in addition to the other charges (Docs fee, Hospital Fee, Channeling Fee). If you are a prepaid user, you need to make sure you have enough credit to cover these charges.

Guys,

Do you know a famous gynecologist in kandy earns 2 lks per day

OOO babe they are the most successful business men in SL

'businessman'?. I think he is a professional working very hard. People must be going to him because he is good. Nothing wrong with that. Isn't that better than stealing public money without any service? After all this guy must be saving lives.

[ I don't know this person and has no relationship to him though]

Guys guys..I guess its really unethical and entirely redundant to question the fairness of doctor fee…and how much they earn a day !

We all were given a free & a fair opening to turn out to be doctors by the local education scheme. Some didn't opt for that some weren't fine enough to be one..

If yes, certainly the whiner will be reasonably less

Story doesn't end there..

There is an extra opportunity later on..that is to get marry to a doctor..most of us didn't opt for that either..

So lets not slur other peoples earnings and professions

Lets not moan why gold is costly and luxurious. if don't like don't buy them…there are other minerals!

Food for thought friends!

Yep - you can't grudge the doctors their fees, they hv earned it. But you can certainly expect professionalism from them for the money you pay. Courtesies like being on time (managing his/her time rather) and willing to explore the ailment rather that processing patients on a 2-min assembly line ... Yeah, there are a hell of a lot that certain doctors can improve on. It's not like that some of them are gods and life savers all the time - some of them just hv a bachelors degree like many common men these days and we hv every right to expect the same service we give to our customers from docs to us.

I agree with both ,mini and wishkid.

Mini's right when he says we all had the opportunity of becoming a doctor, we just didnt take that path, so cant around b!tching about their earnings.

But the thing is the country invests so much in teaching and grooming these students to be doctors who will serve the country. But instead we see doctors who spend lesser and lesser time working in the government hospitals. Some going to the extent of asking patients who come to the gov hospitals to come to their clinics in private hospitals. And then we have some doctors who take on drug endorsements from pharmaceutical companies to promote more expensive medicines rather than a more economical option that might also be in the market.(i remember there once being some talk about doctor's having to prescribe medicine by the drug itself and not the name name its marketed as, but not sure on how that worked out..) We also have others who get their free MBBS and bail on the country. So you take all these factors and put it into a healthcare system like ours, you end up with people queueing outside pvt nursing holes to consult the few good doctors for a mere few minutes; some by choice, some with no other alternative.

I guess it boils down to the doctor as a person, rather than a professional. Is his intention to make money or to serve the people. Sadly most in our country have ended up choosing he former. If he wants to help people, no reason why he cant do that from a government hospital. So rather than the doctor's earnings, its the lack of attention you get from him at times that most people are frustrated about.

Prescribing by generic name of the drugs

Cheap drugs come from India or Pakistan. As there is no standard they are unpredictable and most of the time they don't work. Will you buy the cheapest oil filter for your car? I don't think so.

Attention span of some doctors

I agree some doctors are terrible. You go to a garage and the mechanic diagnoses the problem in 30 seconds and sort it out. Do you have a problem with that? So are some doctors, well experienced. Mostly patients come with common problem and it is not difficult diagnose them in one minute.

Also you cant expect them to spend half an hour with you for 500/= you pay. Go to A*W for a diagnostic, how much they charge? Anybody complaining?

This is a free market economy. If you don't like them don't go. Government hospitals are free for all.

Serving the country and people? Yes, I think they do a good job at it. Our health standards are the best in the region. Even our politicians got this same free education. Are they serving the country?

I think they work very hard. Not by choice. Salary of a doctor when they start is around 25000/=. Thats after about 7yrs of hard labour.
