Where To Service Yamaha Ttr 250

OshanR

Question

i recently brought a yamaha ttr from a person who havnt been using it very much. so i have a feeling that i should service it first.i searched in the net but i couldnt found a yamaha dealer for sri lanka. and i dont think indian yamaha dealers know anything about japanese bikes either. i really dont want to ruin my bike by a bajaj service center. besides i assume that since this has only electrical start, that it must be very careful with the electric bits unlike honda baja.i would like for your recommendations.

Thanks in advance

well...it aint that tough mate.

any decent motorcycle garage should be able to service it without a problem.

servicing usually invoves...

1.changing the engine oil and filter - dead easy

2.check and replace air filter if needed - dead easy

3.check brake fluid and replace or top up if needed.

top up is very easy and flushing and replacing is tad difficult though not beyond a decent DIY

4.check control cables (clutch) and oil and or replace if needed -dead easy

5.check and replace sparkplug if needed -dead easy

6.check brake pads for wear - easy

that's all i can think of and for my xr250...i do all of that and more at home.

if you can get yourself a factory workshop manual and some tools, it's just half a days worth of effort.

and don't worry too much about the whole electric start thing :)

no biggie there. there aren't any fancy electronics involved in that. if at all, over the years the starter relay will fail and might need replacing or cleaning and that's it.

If you are close to Dehivala, there is guy in Hill Street. When you heading to Maharagama/ Boralasgamuwa from Galle road he's on your right at the top of the hill before the police station.

I used to go to him with Suzuki DR (no kick start) and most of CBR in town comes there.

For parts, specially cables etc. there was place at Rajagiriya on Kotte road next to church but cant remember the name!

Nikko motors on rajagiriya road has quite a bit of stuff for larger jap bikes.

also Janaka motors in maligawatta.

replaced throttle cables on my XR and Nikko didn't have it...got it from Janaka motors.

well if you really want a Yamaha Agent you can take it to the Yamaha Town Next to Excel World, TB Jayah Mawatha, Maradana. A*W runs the show and you can trust them...

Ive seen Lots of big ass Yamaha Trailer Bikes, FZR,s and all the Trailer Models even those bikes that belong to the Srilankan Army... there is a specialist guy there for the Non Indian Bikes there... why dont you walk in and make an inquiry im sure theyll take good care of it and wont swap parts with another bike. they are the agents you can trust them!

Make sure if their are any parts at faulty to replace them. Our "wadu bass" are good at Modifying or fixing the fault parts which will ruin the bike entirely, thats why we have so many bandits with bad carbs and bikes with bad ignition.

You can find interchangeable parts.

As Ripper mentioned Nikko has alot of b/new stuff (genuine )mostly.Jayantha motors also carries genuine and the cheaper stuff ,so if its spares you are good to go .
