Nissan TIIDA or TOYOTA BELTA ??

Give me good option...

nissan tiida is more comfortable and more spaces than toyota belta but when come to release valve belta has more market value than tiida and tiida has a powerful engine than belta when come to fuel economy belta has the upper hand.

Yes I agree with nexus.

But when considering outer appearance I prefer the Belta.

But the Belta is 1000CC and 1300CC but TIIDA is 1500CC right? I really wonder why they fitted a 1000CC engine to a big car like belta

It's because due to advances in technology a modern 1000cc engine produces around the same power and torque of a 1300-1500cc 20 years ago. It's not just about displacement :)

Nissan TIIDA or TOYOTA BELTA ??

Tiida has a cvt gearbox so it's very smooth, but as the car gets older the gearbox is very unrelaible becuase it has two cone shaped pulleys and a belt, and if the belt brakes you have to replace the whole gearbox.I heard the lifetime of such gearbox is about 130k km, but honestly I'm not so sure.

I'm sorry, but the one who is worried about CVT tech being unreliable, which Nissan has been working on for years and available in a range of models, is the same person who decided the idea car to buy with well proven technology that is easily maintainable here is the Prius?

I think all the new Toyota s have the CVT auto boxes as well. Also there are many FB15s and Marchs well past the 130K mark and still running.

Also you can repair or rebuild CVT systems. Not sure the technology is available in SL. Used boxes are relatively cheap anyway. The belt is also not a canvas rubber belt :P

It was the Nissan agents who told me that the tiida gearbox is irepairable. And I didnt know FB15's and march have cvt ? I thought nissan started to build cvt in a mass scale after 2003.

The toyota cvt gearbox incorporates a planetary gear, and not the cone and belt type as used by Nissan.

And yes the belt is not a rubber but it tends to elongate with time even if it's made of steel, especially in the city traffic where most of the time it will be working in the higher torque range.

A long time ago, in 1997, Nissan made this car called the Primera M6 HyperCVT.

And if you look here -

You'll see the frankly astonishing number of 300,000kms.

Yes, that is the typical agents answer. In a Sri Lankan context replacement would probably be cheaper and more effective than repair. Most reported problems on the CVT system relate to sensors or the wrong type of fluid used. Not many issues with the belt reported to date. The belt does incorporate quite a bit of steel. But remember Nissan had it for a while, so it's not an experiment to purchase a Nissan CVT car. But Toyota only introduced it across the board recently so theirs is likely to encounter more issues than the Nissan system.

In pre-2010 Tiida models, CVT boxes are only available in M and G grades. (Those grades have teak interior, and in G grade with teak steering wheel, so identifying it will be easy). S and B grades has non-CVT autoboxes.

I had a Nissan x-trail with cvt yom 2001 no problems in the box for 130k(till i sold it )

For the primary question

Go for the tida the interior(beige) is a pretty nice place to be in(compared to the belta) U won't get that interior look in the belta in the models of the next decade so u won't be selling it for a while so there will not be much concern about the resale(who knows what would happen then)

As for the engine the tida's 1.5 will last longer than the 1L in the belta which would have to spit it's guts out to climb a hill

Nissan TIIDA or TOYOTA BELTA ??

Give me good option...

We got a brand new Tiida from the agent, and tell you the truth it doesn't do more than 8 kmpl, its super slow and suspension are on viagra... but beige interior is great and its spacious inside.. But JDMs may be different. No clue about the Belta, and haven't herd any complaints about it either.

Just a little correction TS. Belta has 1.3 L model as well.

Average driving in colombo... colombo to kandy about 9 or 10...

I got the CVT transmission car. does around 10 in city traffic. Highway it does 18.7 (proven with manual pumping ) and Colombo to Galle on the Galle Road it does around 15.5 avg ( 112 kms consumed 7 liters ). but depends on your driving. heavy footed driving would consume more. I revved max of 3000 RPM but avg was 2000 at 80 kmph
