Are those really the prices for a used E 90? I would have thaught they'd be 6.5 mil upwards atleast for a good example. I know of someone who had a mint low mileage 2003 E60 and that changed hands for just over 7 mil. that was only a few months ago. let us know how it goes!

Not sure of the price currently. But i'm expecting it to fall once the new version is released.

no wonder because of the very small number of e90s that came due to very high taxes that prevailed at the time. i think the current generation of e46 owners who plan to upgrade to e90s will face stiff competition while trying to grab the few e90s out there. some e46 owners planning upgrades will surely have to find alternatives.

Problem with importing directly from UK is the agent CIF! If you go for highest value segemnt. Government allows to bring down models below 25000 US$ and they quote the CIF from local agents. Many of these top of range vehicles that the principle importers offer, are trimmed downed models or special business arrangements with the manufacturers. For example A*W failed their effort to bring down X-Trail due to CIF limt. It should be remembered it is the original CIF they take at the limit. Not the depreciated value! Hence many of the models agents offer, we wont be able to bring down as European domestic models would have higher CIF values.

True. but there are quite a few being imported now! I know of a single importer who is getting down 15. So 4 years down the line, there should be ample (in european car terms)for sale. Currently importers get down cars for between 6.5 to 7.5.

that's very good news.

have seen many w204s around but not as many e90s in the roads so far. looks like for whatever reason bmw is late to join the party since taxes came down.

Yes you can go source the car privately from UK or Germany or wherever. Thing is you need to source something less than 1 year old from the date of registration. If you can get it cheaper than the agent why not? I dont think the agent will put a higher valuation just because you are getting it second hand and because he knows that you know the actual valuation given by them since it is US$ 25,000

but i heard these premium brand agents like to play hard ball with private importers.

Yes. But most of the W204's are brand new. I guess there are a quite a few importers who could get down brand new mercs other than the agents. In terms of Bimmers, what you get is 2-3 year old cars that are imported second hand. For around 7.0 you should be able to get down a 320i

Yes, some of them surely do, but i don't think it can be generalised. As far as i am aware, the bimmer agents have not caused any such issues!

BMW 320i advertised in today's papers for 8.5mil from agent.

I went to the agents about 3 months ago, and they were selling a 2005 e90 for 8.5 and a 2006 e90 for 9 mil :angry-smiley-024:

I got my 2007 for the equivalent for 3 Mil...:angry-smiley-048:

Brand new M3 starts at $73k that's roughly about 7.5 mil.

Oh shut up. At least we don't have to dig our cars out of the snow for half the year and try to dodge tornadoes for the other half! :P

Is it true bimmers and freelanders are giving horrid time with maintenance in tropics? As they are designed for temperate climates! Vs their jap contenders! Even Korean ones!

I mean to say that they brake down frequently due to hot and dusty conditions? We had some Peugeots long time back they were pretty reliable. I have never used a bimmer here in Sri lanka except Japanese cars and SUVs. The ride quality and driving pleasure is far better in European siblings though. Just checking before I commit. But what if it brakes down out of Colombo frequently? Have to tow them back to agents or Milroy???

Why on earth do you think BMW's brake down frequently?? These are cars with far superior built quality than most Japanese or korean econoboxes you see running around. When u have to replace a part, it might be more expensive than the comparative jap or korean part, but obviously you pay for a part with far superior quality and performance capabilities! quality comes at a price!

Many baka pandits who preach that euro's are a nightmare to maintain have never probably even sat in one or would have bought one cheaply and tried to use it as a Maruti 800.

But i'm warning you, once u use a euro, there is no turning back, it becomes an addiction! Just a few tips for trouble free motoring;

1. Do some research on your car. Get to know the pro's and cons of the model and try to take preventive action where possible to limit the cons

2. Do maintanance and services on time and with genuine or oem parts at the agents or "reknown" specialist.

3. Dont buy euros to use for a few weeks and sell it for a profit. It doesnt work

4. Take care of the car. Little things can go a long way

5. Heat can result in cracking or warping of certain plastic parts butany issue associated with heat and dust is not unique to bmw's or euro's. JDM's are not made for climates like these but they still survive. just look at 20 year old bmw e30's, e34's and mercs running without any problem! Only issue would be related to suspension ware on euro rides on sl rutty roads!

Happy motoring! :alc:

Why do you think agents give you a warranty (2 years unlimited mileage for BMW's and 3 years unlimited mileage for Land Rovers). Isn't it obvious that they give you a warranty knowing that the cars wont break down. Even Toyota's and the so called Japanese cars breakdown, not just the European.
