  1. Hi Everyone, Thought to start this topic to keep a record on maintenance and repairs if any. The car referred here is my Lancer EX (for those who don't know) and the details of it could be found here. I bought the car just about an year ago with a mileage of 108000kms on it clock. Car had all following things done at 94000kms when I bought it. 1.Replaced all four shocks and dampers. 2.Engine Tuneup plus new plug set. 3.Alternator Belt replaced. 4.New tires installed. 5.New Battery installed. 6.Fron RHD bearing replaced. 7.Auto Gear Oil Changed. All the above except for the battery had been done at the agent (Unit#d Mot#rs). When I bought the car, I didn't have anything to do actually. Feel lucky about this and thankful to the previous owner. (Maybe a merit of selling my previous car in the same condition) Anyways, I'll list down the repairs/maintenance the car underwent during my ownership along with the details of pricing and all. All you guys of the Lancer EX Auto Lanka fraternity, please feel free to use this thread to share details of repairs & running maintenance of your cars as well.
  2. My future wife managed to crash my car in to a parked bus in Kandy road. ? Front left headlight, buffer, front grills and the bonnet are damaged. I have never done a serious accident repair before as this is my first car. So I could use some advice regarding the process. I took the car to VT*C Motors in Malabe as I have heard a lot of good stuff about them. They said that all aforementioned parts will need to be replaced including the bonnet (which I thought would be fixable by tinkering). My concerns are, Do I need to find spare parts? Or will the garage people do that to me? Can we trust them to repair the car with OEM parts? Auto start-stop function does not work now. Would that be due to damaged headlights? (which is kinda weird) Thank you very much.
  3. Hello guys, recently on Iam having this idea of doing a complete conversion of my LJ78 prado to a VDJ76 by swapping a 1VD-FTV engine with manual transmission. So for that looking forward for some help and advice from anyone who knows the subject. Also for the record what type of fuel consumption figures and budget will I possibly have to allocate for this conversion as iam also having second thoughts of either swapping a 1HZ instead of the 1VD (much interest is towards the V8 though). Any form of advice and thoughts would be very appreciated. Thanks
  4. Hey guys. My premio 240 is 2003 YOM 2007 YOR. Sexy car, no trouble so far unless 1 single issue. Which is oil burning too much. Around 2 litres consumed for around 2300 km's But the car pickup is not that bad. When in gear D and stopped at traffic, I can feel the vibration inside the car. Reason is the cylinder pressure unbalance. 2nd and 4th cylinder pressure is bit low (150psi), other cylinders are 200psi and 180psi I think the reason for the engine trouble being that the previous owners hadn't maintained the engine properly. So my options are 1. Repair the engine (low cost as friends say) 2. Replace the engine (high cost, engine number registration is a real hassle, also the new engine we buy from delkanda or somewhere can have issues while using) So guys I'm in total confusion state. Please advice. I like my car, because interior and everything is really good condition. only issue is oil consumption. Please advise.
  5. Hi all. I own a KIA Sportage 2010. I ran a full inspection and found below major errors. Would you be able to mention a reliable garage/person who could repair those for a reasonable price. Company price is so high and not affordable. Thank you ! 1. Need to replace rear assist arm 2. Need to replace engine mount. 3. Engine oil leak. need to replace tappet cover and check for other leakages. 4. Routine service after 80,000kms
  6. AutoLankans, is there a workshop around Kandy you could recommend for a suspension repair/replacement of a corolla 141? Is this "Willies Automobiles" any good? Or are there better places? Don't want to go to the agent and get myself fleeced. Thank you in advance!
  7. Lets talk about Where you did the cell change, How long did the repair last and if its worth doing the cell change in the first place. Thanks guys! Cheers
  8. My Maruti Suzuki Celerio Vxi AMT - it's MTA unit is not working. Is anyone can repair this thing?
  9. Dear All, After a long time I am again asking your valuable experience and knowledge on auto mechanics.. My engine head gasket is blown ( 5A-FE). Seems it's affected to an air passage, since air bubbles are coming out when RPM reaches 2500. Also no oil is visible. Problem is I want some time to get it fixed myself. Usually I am not used to give any kind of a bass for repair since almost all had done damages rather than repairing my car.... I am expecting to finish this on this Saturday. It is around 1 month now after I came to know that the gasket is blow. Radiator was replaced by a new one and working well.
  10. My father scratched the driver side tire to the toll gate pavement when exiting the southern expressway ?. Its a small cosmetic damage, but still annoying to a person with mild OCD. There are no deep cuts, but the paint and surface parts of the wheel is chipped in few places. I saw a post from @Davy explaining alloy wheel repair as a DIY project, but since this is a smaller issue, I believe it will be cheaper & easier to get this fixed from a professional. Can someone suggest a good place to get this fixed? And an approximate cost it will take. Thank you very much. ?
  11. Hi Guys, Today I have bought a honda city 2000 V-Tec car and I want to know a good and trusted place near Kandy to service and do some repairs in my car. This is going to be the first service I'm doing after buying it. There is a little power steering oil leak and I need to get it repaired too. So do you guys have any suggestions for me on a place to repair it? Service and repair from two separate places is okay. Also, I really appreciate it if you guys give me a hint on what to check in this first service after buying this old car...? Thank you.
  12. So I met with a minor accident from my CivicX. I forgot I’m not driving my fathers Toyota and ran over a small concrete slab while parking the car. Now the engine under guard is cracked open to the right side. It’s a minor damage but since insurance is covering the repair cost, thought of getting it fixed immediately. Can someone please suggest a good reliable body repair shop to get it fixed? P.S. Cant go to Honda agent as insurance is not covering the full claim for agent. Car is registered as a reconditioned.
  13. One of the factory fitted DRL's on my car does not work anymore. Not sure what exactly has happened. But I'm assuming one of the LED's in the light strip went out and in turn the circuit is now incomplete. I've heard this is a common cause for LED light strips to not work. I would buy a new one but it currently costs 90k to replace this tiny light strip and only the agents carry the part here, I've checked extensively in other places but they don't carry the part. Can anyone here recommend a place that does a good job repairing these LED light strips? Below is a working example of the part.
  14. Hi fellow drivers, Just got a viva elite 2012 manual recently and need to repair / replace some stuff related to brakes (could be pads / caliper pins etc.). I live in Panadura. I need a close by guy to make my go-to-guy. I don't think #UNIMO will be good given that many people here complain of the service and prices. If you know any good place, please drop a note on prices too . Thanks! (If I'm replacing brake pads or caliper pins, do I need to go with original products or A-grade replica? I heard originals can be around 20k while a good replica is 2k something. Correct me.) @Admin Sorry Admin, please move to 'Request Information On A Good Mechanic/ Workshop And Discussion'. Still new to this.
  15. Recently I met with an accident and I had to replace rear windscreen of my Honda Fit GP4. I handed over the car to Mag C#ty and asked them to handle insurance and everything coz of my busy schedule. They have replaced a duplicate Malaysian windscreen instead of my original Honda one without informing me. And also there was no transparency of the process at all . However, after replacing to a duplicate one vibration noise coming from the rear windscreen when I drive on broken roads. Mag C#ty guys are not accepting this and they are arguing that noise coming from somewhere else. But I pretty sure that's coming from the back door. Can this happen technically? Has anyone experienced this before?
  16. Is there any one can fix new powers shutter for my Mazda Familia (BHA3P) please contact me with a budget cost.

  18. Hi Guys, Posting a DYI again after quite some time. After I got new wheels for my car, the stock rims have been lying around and I thought of repairing them. Two of the wheels had nasty kerb damage thanks to the previous owner who was careless when parallel parking (wheels with the most damage were the ones on the left). When I was looking for a set of used BBS rims for my car, 90% of the rims I found had kerb damage. So the problem is pretty common and getting these professionally repaired and resprayed can cost a lot. If you are keen on doing this on your own, you might find this post useful. Things you need: Alloy wheel repair putty (eBay Link? This is a specially formulated putty to work with alloy wheels and I found it to be very effective. Sandpaper (200, 400, 800 wet, 1200 wet) Masking tape, scissors, old newspapers to mask Clean rags Water for wet sanding Wax and grease remover/Degreaser Old toothbrush Rubber gloves For illustration purposes, I have selected one area of a rim where you can see kerb damage. This is what I’ll be working with. Step 1: Prepare the surface for repair Using degreaser, toothbrush and a rag, scrub and clean the area and get the grime out of the damaged area. As you can see from the above photo, there’s a lot of grime in there. Next, use the coarse dry sandpaper to remove any material that maybe protruding out of the surface of the wheel. We need a smooth surface and the alloy wheel putty needs to fill in the scratches. The following photo is after sanding and washing the area. Step 2: Apply the repair Putty The putty is a stick and has the texture of crafting clay. It’s a two-part putty and you need to knead it between your fingers for the two parts to mix up (wear gloves for protection). Then roll it on a flat surface to form a very thin bead. Place the bead on the damaged area and press firmly. As the two parts start to react, you can feel the putty heat up. It hardens up rock solid within about 15 minutes. You can start sanding in about an hour. Remember not to apply excessive amounts of putty, because a lot of effort will be needed to sand it down if you do. The stuff is a bit harder to sand than regular body filler. This was the first spot I applied the putty to, I applied a little too much and had to spend a lot of time sanding it down. So once again, VERY little. This photo is probably a bad example of how to apply it, but you get what I mean. Step 3: Sanding Start with 200 grit dry sandpaper and work your way to a smooth surface. Use masking tape to prevent damage to the tyre. If you plan to do only a touch-up and not paint the entire wheel, you might need to mask the wheel as well, to avoid scratching it up. Run your bare fingers on the edge of the rim from time to time and feel the smoothness, you should be able to tell if there are imperfections. When the surface is smooth, move to wet sanding (first 800 grit and then 1200 grit to remove the fine scratches). If you plan to paint the entire wheel, water sand the wheel with these two papers so that the surface has a “blunt” texture. The new paint will stick better this way. After the sanding is done, the surface will look nice and smooth, no more kerb damage! It’s important to sand the putty down so that there is no excessive putty between the tyre and the wheel, you can insert the sandpaper into the gap and sand away, the original curve of the wheel needs to be maintained. As you can see from the above photos, I have sanded the putty all the way down to the rim so that the only bit remaining is the putty that fills the scratches. This is exactly what we need. If you feel like you need one more pass, go ahead and repeat step 2 and 3 again. This is it for the repair. All that is left now is to paint the area. I will cover that in a separate post. Let me know what you guys think and if you know of other ways of DIY methods to repair wheels. Thanks for reading! Cheers!

  21. Hi All, I would like to discuss on the topic "converting vehicle transmission from manual to automatic". Idea of this is mainly because, nowadays most of the manual transmission cars are lot cheaper than the auto. So if anybody is willing to buy a manual for a cheaper price and convert it to a auto he will find a price advantage?? If we can discuss the pros and cons of the transformation, good mechanics who have done it successfully and hands on experiences; it would be interesting!!! What do you say??
