  1. Hi all, I’m planning to buy my first car. I know it is not a good time when it comes to buying vehicles these days but after waiting years struggling to collect money now Im finally there and I really need a vehicle. Found this forum recently so thought this is a good place to get some advices from experienced people. I don’t have much experience with vehicles as this is going to be the first car in the family too, so please be kind when advising if I’m being stupid 🙂. To be honest I will not have to drive this car daily. I’m a Software Engineer and I work from home. So mostly I will drive this car in short distances regularly but plan to go on trips with the family so reliability is important. My max budget is 4.5M. And as this is my first car I’m planning to go for a small car so my choice is a hatchback. So far I have done some research and my choices are Swift (beetle) & Mazda Demio. I know these cars are old but with my small budget this is what is there. Maybe I can go for a 2014 wagonr? But I don’t like the look. But yeah fuel consumption and maintenance cost is also must be considered but as far as I got to know Swift is not good in fuel economy even though that is my 1st choice. Some says Demio does better in fuel consumption and I already read some threads here but Swift still feels like it has more features than the Demio (Please advise if I’m wrong). So guys, What are your opinions on my choices and do you think there’s a better car for my needs?
  2. Hi there. I’m interested in purchasing a used manual car as my first ever car. I’m turning 20 this year and I’m somewhat of a casual car enthusiast, but I have little to no firsthand experience with the internals of cars, except the occasional fluid change. I’ve driven around in 3 automatic cars of my parents, 2 that we own currently, but I’m interested in getting a manual myself to get to know the internals better and practice manual driving on. I’d prioritize handling and driving feel, then reliability. Won’t be driving a lot as of now, 20-30 km per week or less. Fuel economy isn’t too big of an issue as so long as it isn’t a gas guzzler. My ideal price range would be close to 3 million, stretching up to 5 mil only if it’s gonna be an extremely worthy and sensible purchase in the long run. Ideally safety should be key too, but can’t ask for everything at this price range. Right now I’m looking at some Honda civics (ek3/ es8) which are around the 3 mil price range, and also some eg8s which are somewhat cheaper. I’m interested in JDM/ Japanese cars in general as they seem to fit the reliability criterion pretty well, while some still can offer good handling. I had also viewed a bunch of converted Evolutions, STIs and also a B4 Legacy, most of which exceed the 5 mil mark or barely fit under it. As much as they’re probably better driver’s cars, I’m not entirely sure if it’s worth the premium for someone who’s just starting out, and I’m also unsure if I should be handling that much power in a car now itself. My parents will also probably be reluctant if it’s too powerful ig. So I just wanted to ask the people here on thoughts about the cars I mentioned above as a first car, or if you have any other recommendations. Any advice regarding this topic or in general about a first car purchase is appreciated. Sorry for the long post xD Edit: I saw some crash tests of ek3 and I’m trying to reconsider options, seems like only a Volvo would do for safety in cars in that era. Doubt they’ll be great handlers but safety looks like top priority to me now.
  3. Hello Everyone, I'm in search of a vehicle priced under 3.5 million. The ideal vehicle should be: Easy to maintain Fuel-efficient Have low parts cost Reliable Suitable for a family Preferably an automatic transmission On a lighter note, in case the government lifts the vehicle ban (which might not happen in near future), I want to ensure there are no regrets with my choice. Any recommendations are highly appreciated. Thank you!
  4. Not related to vehicles but noticed the Honda ebk 2000 generator in the garage rotting off for more than 5years. It was a PH off with nothing much to do so took it out. The base was totally rotted off and the fuel tanks smelled like rat pee. There was even a snake skin and rat droppings all around. Well it had more biodiversity than the vilpathtu. Call me by a politicians name but i had to remove all the wildlife away from the motor. I didnt think it would start but i decided to give it a try or send it for scrap. So i drained the rat pee from the fuel tank and put Rs. 100 worth of super petrol in. Then was the moment of truth. Pulled the starter and abracadabra it started. And it didnt even miss a beat. I couldnt understand if it was running on the power of its motor or the power of its dreams So gave it a clean up changed the oil and started it again. Now in the comfort of the ac run buy the power of the said genny i decided to give it a tribute. And a tribute to how reliable things were back in the old days. Well it was a good thing honda didnt mate it to a dual cluth gearbox or an integrated motor assist. That made the downfall of hondas reliabilty. The only assist it got is by my biceps for starting which is mind you smaller than your tensor tympany. And with the Rs. 100.00 of super petrol its running the house with a 9000btu ac for around a hour now without even missing a beat. Sound much better than a crz which i hear some days in the morning which sounds of a major engine misfire in the morning. I cant understand what happened to hondas reliabilty. How reliable they were those days. With that said Fernando Alonso wouldnt have gone sunbathing if honda made things reliable like in the good old days.
