  1. Greetings Guys, Back on the forum after many years (posted a question when looking for a car for my sister ages ago - can't remember my account). I've gone through the existing stuff re my question but most are a little old and bit vague. I'll try to summarize: I'm currently car less having sold the parents family sedan a year back as we do not travel a lot.But with covid I'm really not to keen on public transport OR taxis. Given the current insane prices the idea is to spend as less as possible initially on a car. My budget is less than 1.5 Mil LKR. I'm looking at a car with some character (no Maruti please) I don't drive to work daily or anything mostly weekend medium-short trips. I've noticed Minis for sale right in my budget and the prospects are tempting. BUT some background check I noticed the following: Seems almost all Minis are listed as Year 1960s but seem to be newer with AC and EFI. How are the legal aspects of this? Am I asking for trouble buying one? Are spares and components super rare? Any places bring them down etc. I'm from around CMB. So as long as there are joints in the Western province I'm ok There seem to be EFI and Carb engines both...any specific infos about these? How practical is the car for average usage in 2020? (think getting parts from abroad etc) Good places that handle repairs etc Not looking for mega resale but not willing to sell at 50% off. Other options I considered are the ones mentioned by you guysin some similar threads Mazdas Station Wagons Peugeot etc but these cars are like my backup plans. Please suggest your opinions am I Asking for trouble or what other options do I have?
  2. Hi All, I was planning to get a MINI to be daily driven in Colombo but unfortunately most of the vehicles I checked were in good condition but had dodgy documentation. Some were cut buds and did not even match up with the doc. I am very enthusiastic about MINIs but im reluctant to buy one in this condition According to the homework I have done its is not legal to run..obviously, is there a way to get a MINI which is road legal in everyway for a decent price other than Harbor Auctioned cars which are sky high. I’ve heard that Police is on the hunt and if you face an accident you are in for court time, bound for fines and probably the car will be confiscated. Some were high priced but had irregularities in the CR itself. Heard its the general case. Need your exprertise on this.
  3. Good day All, New to the forum here ;) I'm looking to purchase a car manufactured between 1960-1990 for a full restoration project. Would love to see if any BMW e34 (1984) are available. Even a Datsun b210 is okay. Original book should be available. It doesn't matter if the car is in very bad condition as I plan on working on it from ground up. I'd really appreciate if you could let me know what cars are available. Thanks in advance!
  4. Hey guys . im on the hunt for a Classic mini . browsing through the AL posts i learned a lot of stuff . From what i gathered i think its better to stay away from the cut buds . and the dodgy registration ones . and the A pillars , the front near the windshield , under interior carpets are spots to find for severe rust. some people register minis to Morris minor books. Most of the Minis that i looked had their bodies replaced with newer model bodies . some were in pretty good nick . good straight body and all . So these are my questions . How do i identify if a car is a cut bud or not . are there special places to look for like welded joints and stuff.? why should i stay away from these ?is putting a newer model body on an old mini legal ?is there any way of making sure all the paperwork for the car is in order like after putting on a new body some details must be changed on the vehicle certificate ryt ? where i should look for the engine/chasis numbers ?i am looking for a 1300cc manual . these come as EFI and carb models . which would be a more reliable engine?i would like a mini with the new teak dashboard , airbag , new engine and all those things but apparently these are the new ones that are bought down in pieces and welded together ,and then registered with a different book . also i would like to stay away from a rust bucket . my budget is around 1.3mil would it be a bad decision if i go for the newer airbag model ? but i wouldnt want to mess around with dodgy paperwork and all .P.s . any other pointer as to what to look for when buying a mini and the current market value of them are welcome .
  5. im going to buy a mini cooper without book and gonna buy a book from another guy(morris minor book). tagging the chassis number is not the issue,but the engine number doesn't match with the car. is there any way to put same engine number in book to the car? can i make changes in book through RMV (change engine numbers and model numbers)
