General Comments

  1. I’m trying to bring down Honda Civic 2018 any comments about the vehicle any failures faced in Sri Lanka ???
  2. ...and in the blink of an eye 3 years have gone by. It only occurred to me/us when the dealer called up to remind us of the upcoming shaken inspection and tax payment and to inquire what I wanted to do with the car loan. So off to inspection it went and decided to totally pay off the car. So now she is totally mine At the 3 year mark I have put 10,xxxkms on it and each one of those kms have been more smile worthier than the other. Interestingly as the engine broke in the car became more lively as the engine was way more rev happy. In 2022 GR Garage started a personalization program called GR Personal Selection. The program offered owners the chance to take the car for a track day, drive it and tune the car according to their own driving style. This included a software upgrade which bumped up torque to 390Nm (an increase of 20Nm from the stock 370), adjustments to steering weight, throttle response and AWD torque split. Unfortunately, the track days didn't work out with my schedule so got it tuned to some presets that were offered. So now the car has 390Nm of torque, heavier steering and high throttle response. I didn't do anything with the torque split of the AWD system as I felt the changes introduced a bit of understeer which I didn't like. The upgrades have made the car a lot easier to drive. So much so my wife, who always made the car leap from stand still or jerk when accelerating and shifting gears, found it a lot easier to drive than before. I bought the GR Yaris completely out of impulse. The original plan was to buy a standard Yaris with a MT until the GR Corolla was released. Thus, once the GR Corolla was released in Japan I had to go try it out and put my name down for one. The GR Corolla was a nice car. It is a lot easier to drive. The two rear doors make the car a lot more practical. The car does have a larger cargo area, however the usable space is not that much larger than the GR Yaris. The best thing about the GR Corolla is the engine improvements. The power delivery is much smoother and the engine is more responsive (the updated engine is going to be offered in the facelifted GR Yaris). Performance wise, although the GRC has more power, you cannot not actually feel it due to the added weight. Track runs have shown both cars to be equal in things like 0-100 times, etc...the main difference seems to be in terms of handling. The consensus seems to be that the GRY is better for rallying and B-roads (due to the shorter wheelbase) and the GRC is better for track use. Which brings me to what I did not like in the GRC. The weight...and the longer wheelbase. The GRC feels less nimble and playful than the GRY. Albeit...straight line, flat-out..the GRC is a lot more stable. Which I support is in line with the above mentioned consensus. So, after a lot of driving around in the GRC and a track day with the GRC and a bunch of other GR cars, I decided to stick with the GR Yaris (I was hoping to keep the GRY and buy the GRC as a second family car for its practicality. Wife insisted I had to trade in the GRY). Then there was the whole purchase method for the GRC. The cars were offered only through lottery with each round of lottery having only 550 cars (Toyota closed its 2nd lottery a few months ago and the next one is supposed to come up in a few months). To give you an idea of how crazy the lottery is....I went to the dealership/GR Garage to apply for the lottery the morning after the lottery started (1.00pm prev day). The system already showed 5000+ lottery applications. The low chances of actually winning the lottery reaffirmed my decision to hold on to the GRY. The GR Garage is a total car person's den. It has two racing sims, a library with car books, mini cars...and always has a selection of fun cars. In this instance they had their (Toyota Corolla dealership's) GRMN Yaris and GR Corolla Morizo edition apart from the white one in the previous pic). Now..the second moment of temptation.. I was so mad with Toyota that I went and ordered a Civic Type R. Now that was a very refined car. FWD and wonderfully balanced. Interior was well appointed. The adaptive suspension was quite good. The car came in at 4.9mil yen fully loaded (compared to the GRC's price of 5.8mil) and the car made you feel special for all that money you spent on it. At the time of placing the order the delivery period was 4 years. To my good fortune, Honda called last December and said I could have mine in April 2024 if I still wanted it. So... am I getting a Civic Type R in April ? I suppose we will have to wait and see. For now..life goes on with the GRY .... Yes...we still have the old Corolla. She turns 25 this year and has 52,000km. Still runs strong and along with her shaken inspection next week I will be replacing some oil seals (for good measure as some are 25 years old and some 10). Other than that I replaced two engine mounts and replaced the clutch and pressure plates about 2 years ago Its amazing how small the Corolla wagon is compared to the GRY. The day Toyota was crazy enough to ask a bunch of us to drive their cars The blue Supra was a manual and LOVED it ! If I could have afforded it that would be a car I would give up the GRY for in less than a heart beat. The pure grunt and glorious sound of a V8 was mesmerizing. Now....about that family car I wanted until a new toy comes around. Because the chances of getting a GRC was so low...the dealership managed to sell us a facelifted Corolla Touring ! Our/my first Hybrid car. The facelift has some exterior/interior design improvements, but the main change is the hybrid system. It now uses a 5th gen HSD mated to a 1.8L engine. Has a total combined output of about 137? hp and tons of torque thanks to an updated control unit and lighter batteries (so it has more power than the pre-facelift model and weighs less). It is interesting how the system handles the charge/discharge. The car does not let the battery charge up to a 100%. Only time it does is when driving long distances on the highway or going up and and down hills. At such times it just starts cruising on EV mode. Its biggest let down is the eCVT and has a little bit space than the old Corolla wagon...but everything else is pretty sweet. All in-all the (temporary ?) purchase of the Corolla Touring worked out quite well considering some unexpected life changes.
  3. Is it worth buying a Honda civic in Sri Lanka? If so, what will be the best purchases? FD1, 2, 3 or 4? (Year 2006 -2011)
  4. My future wife managed to crash my car in to a parked bus in Kandy road. ? Front left headlight, buffer, front grills and the bonnet are damaged. I have never done a serious accident repair before as this is my first car. So I could use some advice regarding the process. I took the car to VT*C Motors in Malabe as I have heard a lot of good stuff about them. They said that all aforementioned parts will need to be replaced including the bonnet (which I thought would be fixable by tinkering). My concerns are, Do I need to find spare parts? Or will the garage people do that to me? Can we trust them to repair the car with OEM parts? Auto start-stop function does not work now. Would that be due to damaged headlights? (which is kinda weird) Thank you very much.
  5. Hi, I was thinking about buying my very first car and I really can't decide on which car to buy. I am looking for a kind of sporty looking car and so far the ones that attracted me are as below, - Mini Cooper - Honda Civic EK3 - Mitsubishi Lancer CK1 I am no expert about cars (Still learning about them) so, I hope some of you who have a good knowledge about these cars could help me out in choosing one. Also if you have suggestions of any other cars within this price range which are better than the ones mentioned above, please mention them too.
  6. I have a Honda Civic FD4 - 2008 with mileage 150,000km Stafford maintained. There is a jerk in the gearbox when I put onto the reverse every morning. Once it happens, it is there when I put to D also. If I switch off the car and on again, problem disappeared. It happens only when the car is started after long rest. ATF also changed very recently. Any one came across with the same problem and know a solution? Thank you.
  7. I hope to buy a honda civic FD3.I found one manufac on 2010 CAC number for 3.4M. Dear friends, my questions are, 1. Do you know what are the trim levels are and how to know them and ascending order of trims[including adding features if possible]. 2. Does it worth 3.4M?[generally] 3.My friend told me that it is not fast and accelerate as other civic fds. Is it true? 4.Is there any way to check the battery condition? Thanks in advance.
  8. Between similar speced and aged Honda Civic FD1(1.8) and FD4(1.6), which car fetches a better market price in Sri Lanka? Furthermore which car returns better fuel consumption (not that I care but I think this will have an impact on eventual market price).
  9. Guys, finally I bought 'FD 1', I was seeking a well maintained FD1 or FD 4 for months but was not lucky enough. After many cheatings and hassles, I accidentally found this red beauty. And also after dozens of negotiations, I settled with her. This FD1 is a brand new import under the permit scheme and registered in 31st of December 2007. previous owner is a doctor & he was the first owner and had maintained her with Sfat#d Mot#rs and had all service records from the beginning to up to date. Two Autolankans were helping me with this. Hyaenidae, B@tman and also I thank full to who wrote threads about FD's. I read each & every thread about FD. Thank you all guys. Here are some photos of her.
  10. Honda Civic FD1 - R18A Throttle Body cleaning after ~ 50,000Km. Symptoms: Vibration when the A/C is cycling ON What happened: There was a very little amount of carbon build up on the throttle body and the RPM was dropped by ~200 due to the reduced gap between the throttle body and the plate. It was enough to make the vibration when the A/C compressor is adding some load to the engine. It got recovered within a second; however I felt that so badly LOL * Need to remove the air box completely ** Don't force open the throttle plate (It will damage the throttle body, strip gears and mess your idling) *** To open the throttle plate for cleaning, turn the ignition ON and ask some one to press the accelerator or use a weight. **** Use throttle body cleaner, contact cleaner or carb cleaner. ***** Don't forget to hook the MAF sensor before turn on the ignition otherwise it will log 2 errors (you can clear them if you have a scanner). ****** This method is without disconnecting the battery. No need to re learn the idle after cleaning. Before: After: Cleaned everything and also cleaned the engine + transmission because it's hard to reach this area after assembling the air box Vibration during A/C cycling ON has disappeared and the RPM is stable at ~800 P, N + A/C ON D, R + A/C ON
  11. Please give comments on the usage of new Civic 1.0L turbo hatch in Sri Lanka.
  12. Car: Honda Civic FD4 Problem: Engine overheating at long distance journeys and loss of coolant (about 500ml per 30 minutes drive). Observations: Foam creating in the radiator cap (currently running with only water due to coolant loss). Overflow tank getting full all the time after a drive. There are some foam in the overflow tank too. Occasional white smoke during the morning, cold starts. A leak in the radiator core. The mechanic said it takes a longer than usual time for the thermostat valve to be opened. Both fans work without A/C but takes time to turn on. No other visible external locations for coolant leakage. Things Done: Replaced the radiator. Question: What could be the reason? If it's a blown head gasket (or something else), what is the correct procedure to diagnose/fix it?
  13. What issues are expected to occur(if there are any) when buying a 2006 fd1 that has done 200k km? The vehicle in discussion is regularly maintained throughout at Stafford.
  14. Hi Experts., I have idea of buying a Honda civic ek3 or a Mitsubishi lancer Ck series car for later modifying purpose. but for the moment i have no expert or experience with Honda or either Mitsubishi. Currently im sticked to a Toyota and i am pretty sure that, when comparing to a Toyota , Honda & Mitsubishi must have a whole lot difference...I have heard lot of cons and pros between these 2 car vendors...some says Honda maintain cost is considerably high while Mitsubishi have a economical maintenance ETC.... Any how i much appreciate your expert advice's on helping me to decide either go for a Honda EK3 Or a Mitsubishi Ck series! Thanks in advance.
  15. Dear all, I'll be grateful if you can share your experience of the 2010 Honda Civic 2010 FD3 (Hybrid) Vehicle. I searched the forum but had very little luck of previous posts. I would like to know about general information on Hybrid performance, comfortability and maintenance. At the moment my budget is only sufficient for a 2012 Aqua, Honda 2012 P5 or the above mentioned Civic. I prefer hybrids because fuel cost is a main concern for me followed by comfort. TIA for all your suggestions and comments.
  16. Hi everyone, I've been sorta interested in buying a EF Civic Hatchback as my first car. Just wanna know whether it's a easy car to maintain and source parts for in Sri Lanka. I know the EG and EK variants are a lot easier to own but the price of the EF is very inviting
  17. Hi, I am driving a 2019 Civic ex. I gotta replace the Turbo having driven only 28,000km. Heard most of the civic users are facing this issue. Suspect it was caused by the semi synthetic engine oil. The cost of repairing is pretty high as well. Looking for advice or any recommendations. Need to know which exactly cause this issue! cheers.
  18. Hello! Well first of all this topic is about Honda Civic Sedans not Honda Civic Hatchbacks.... Honda civic sedan 2019 when you go to official website or even to stafford motors website they show 1.5L turbo engine model and 1.6L engine model which are about 90M rupees. But in all other places what you can find is 1000cc turbo engine sedan. I tried to find that model in Honda website but I couldn't find it(I'm not an expert.. maybe I missed it ?) So this Honda Civic Sedan 1000cc turbo engine costs roughly 70M -72M right now. What my questions are... 1) is 1000cc turbo engine is really enough for that huge vehicle, I mean performance? In hill country will it perform well? (Please see attached photos) 2) Why cannot we find Honda Civic Sedan 1000cc turbo engine model in Honda website? (If someone found it please send me the link) 3) I have seen lot of Honda Civic Hatchbacks for sale.. if you go to ###### or any other website you can at least find 10 to 20 used honda civic hatchbacks for sale that are run less than 10000kms... why is everyone selling it? Is there any failure? If there is will it be same with the Honda Civic sedan 1000Cc turbo engine model? Thank you.. I know its a big topic... I really need help and even car sale owners seem not aware about models and stuff... Thanks in advance! Cheers Lali ?
  19. Guys, I am hearing some kind of abrasion/ friction sound (යමක් ඇතිල්ලෙනවා වගේ සද්දයක් )when cruising. I cant hear it when accelerating because of the engine noise. But when I take the foot off the paddle, I can hear it masked by the road noise from tires. It has a rhythm where the tempo increases with the vehicle speed. Also it is audible only on comparatively higher speeds only. Since we cannot upload audio files here, I am sharing a Google drive folder which contains 3 recordings from my mobile. Please note that it is very subtle and not clearly audible due to background noise. But if you listen carefully you can hear it to the end of all 3 videos. Car - Civic 2018 Mileage - 18000 km A full service was done recently. Also I had to change the left rear tire due to a tire puncture in March where I did the last wheel alignment. Unfortunately I cannot think of the origin of this sound. Probably started hearing it this year after the tire change, but am not sure. I did not care about it before, but now I am getting a bit paranoid as I have mild OCD. I am not a motorhead (yet), so your feedback regarding the matter is highly appreciated. Thank you. ? Edit: Sorry there was a problem accessing the file. Its fixed now.
  20. Yesterday when Im going back home, I noticed that left side rear tire is completely flat. Unfortunately, I have already driven 2-3 kms before realizing the situation. Anyhow, as a result I ended up stranded nowhere deep in Neluwa at around 9 PM which was a very frustrating situation. The bloody tire repair kit also did not work (the puncture seem to be too large so air escaped through the hole), so I had to park the car in a strangers home and find my way back home which was 25km away. Enough ranting! I have to somehow fix the tire. Car has already clocked 13k Kms within 5 months of purchase as I travel a lot. What are my options? Do I need to get a new tire? Which will cost about 45k (which is a considerable sum considering my current financial status). If so will it unbalance the car as other 3 tires are a bit worn off now? Can I repair the tire with vulcanizing or some other method and continue to use it? (I like this option, as it is cheap). Will it be a risk causing another possible puncture deep in the boonies, considering I travel great miles in rural areas? I need to buy a spare wheel. What kind of options do I have? How much it will cost? Your valuable feedback is highly appreciated. Thank you.
  21. Hi, I use a Honda civic gen 10 2018 and today after running around 27500 kms the service due icon appeared. When checked in the maintenance it lists 3 things with service due in 28 days. Please check the attached screenshot and below details. B: Chassis inspection 2. Dust and Pollen Filter 3. Transmission oil As i ve heard transmission oil should be changed in 40000kms. Can someone please advice if i need to change Transmission oil as well.
  22. Dear All I'm looking to import a car for the 3.6 mil permit, budget between 4-6mil. Will be using it for a minimum of 2 years. I was thinking of the Honda civic 1.0L but rethinking that because of a) Ground clearance - 135mm may not be enough as not limited to the city? b) Have to get the Tech pack (highest grade) because others have no value for the permit. So looked at the corolla sport (maybe better resale value, same ground clearance) and the mazda 3 (which may not have the same resale value?) Any thoughts? Am I overlooking any other options? (not too keen on the CH-R) Thanks in advance
  23. Dear Members, I'm not sure if the forum is still active but I'm just wondering if anyone know or have experience in converting an EK3 dashboard from a single Din to double Din.. Appreciate if someone can help me out...
  24. So I met with a minor accident from my CivicX. I forgot I’m not driving my fathers Toyota and ran over a small concrete slab while parking the car. Now the engine under guard is cracked open to the right side. It’s a minor damage but since insurance is covering the repair cost, thought of getting it fixed immediately. Can someone please suggest a good reliable body repair shop to get it fixed? P.S. Cant go to Honda agent as insurance is not covering the full claim for agent. Car is registered as a reconditioned.
  25. So I bought a new Civic hatch (2018) last week with just little over 100 Kms in the odometer. When I was driving it to home, I noticed that service reminder (wrench icon) is displayed in the dashboard. The console indicates that service is due by -86 dates now (this civic calculates service period by dates, not kms ). The dealer said it is normal to appear as the the car was idling in the sale since last September without proper driving. He recommended me to do a service done which he will pay for. I dont mind taking it to a quick service at Staf#### and do a regular maintenance to get the service reminder reset. But Im worried that it will replace the factory oil which helps the engine in the break in period. What should I do here? P.S. Do we have any "Break-In oils" available in the market to replace the factory oil?
