  1. Hi About 02 years ago, I've uploaded a topic almost about finding a BMW E38 7 Series, which could be said as my ultimate driving machine dream Currently, I am driving my S-Type Jag and Now I wanted to buy a BMW E38 car. Here are my wishlist a). If possible to find, I prefer a stretched look of an iL (long wheel base) car like 740iL. From my knowledge very few are on Sri Lankan roads. b) Prefer LCI (facelifted car) from year 1998 - 2001 c) Prefer Green color exterior with beige interior, I don't know if any of such is available that fits above preferences in Sri Lanka I've seen all cars (2-3) advertised now and during last year or so, but none of those are in awe inspiring condition and needs considerable attention and big $$$ to get things to work again. So please don't suggest cars currently advertised on classified sites. I am aware that, it would quite difficult to find a car that fits above description and I've already contacted several BMW service people (Prestige, Mr Milroy and -2-3 others) to find an owner who has an E38 that I may could persuade in selling. Even if you could point me in the direction of any other E38 (1995-2001, short or long wheelbase, 728i, 730i or 740i, 740il), I highly appreciate it. Please send me PM if you have contact info. Thanks again Kal-el
  2. So I came across this car prices list meticulously put together by this car sales website .. hope this will be useful for potential car hunters.. what do you think about the prices guys https://carkade.com/japanese-cars-import/vehicle prices for permit holders in sri lanka.php
  3. Please advice on pros and cons of 2013 Mercedes W204 C220 and BMW F30 320D models.
  4. Hi, This has reference to one of my earlier posts, in which i sought advise from upgrading from my Jaguar S type to a model within BMW E38, E39, E60, Jaguar XJ X350, etc. With valuable guidance from AL members and through my own evaluation, I have decided to go for a BMW E38 (or X308 XJ LWB Jaguar as X350 is currently out of my budget), preferably a facelifted 1998 - 2001, 740iL long wheel base car. From my limited knowledge, I think there are very few long wheel base E38's in the country, hence finding one has become somewhat of a challenge, hence I seek the help from fellow AL members. During last 12 months, there were 02 LWB cars advertised on quick sites and here on AL. I wonder who own these now and also interested to know more details of these elusive cars. Thanking you Kal-El
  5. How much price reduce when exporting with a $35000 permit.?Thnx
  6. Hey guys, I choose these 3 cars for this debate Audi a4 (B9), bmw 3 series (F30) and benz c class(w205). What is the most reliable car out of these that is suitable for srilankan roads conditions. And i would like to know the second hand market for these vehicals and the avalibility of spare parts in srilanka. Thanks?
  7. I presently own a Toyota Aqua and saw a s320 1999 model advertised with the attached spec. It is a "301-" vehicle. It kind of caught my curiosity as whether to replace my Aqua with this. However the interior leather seats are cracked and I guess that needs to be reupholstered, but does it make sense to buy this vehicle given its 18 years old as well? Please no jokes or insults. This is a genuine request. My main concerns are comfort and vehicle maintainability. Thanks in advance!

  9. Hi, Gentlemen and ladies (if there any) I currently own a S Type Jaguar (2000 model year), which is a great machine that has very unique and distinctive looks and loads of road presence, specially where I live most of the time (outside the Colombo). However, I have been thinking of trading my Jag to one of the following models. 1. BMW E38 - 740iL preferably (1998-2001) - used to be a dream car for me and still is to some extent, very rare to find. 2. BMW E39 - 525i, 530i preferably (2001-2003) - not sure if this will be a downgrade from my S type Jag in terms of looks, sheer road presence and power. 3. BMW E60 5 Series - (2003-2006) - Nice car, not many on classifieds like the F10 5 Series 4. Jaguar XJ (X350) - (2003-2007) - The big brother to my S Type. Amazing looks, expensive and very rare. 5. Audi A6 (C5) - (2000 - 2003) - also, not sure if this will be a downgrade from my S type Jag in terms of looks, sheer road presence and power. 6. Merc W211 E Class ( 2002 - 2005) - Looks elegant, may not be a bang for the buck due to high demand for Mercs in SL Since I am used to fuel consumption, parts availability and maintenance cost of premium euro's, I humbly request from you to guide on on, 1. What kind of improvements that each model will offer in comparison to my S Type Jag ? 2. Can you point out a mint condition E38 (long wheel base LCI), E39, E60, XJ - X350 that is intended for trade / sale ? 3. Other general advice ? Thanking you for your precious time.. Kal-El
  10. Hi Automobiles or cars as we used call them, has long become a commodity and are now mass produced trade items that aims to fulfill the automotive requirements of contemporary human beings, whose day to day routines IMHO, are much more sophisticated now and reflect the chaotic and busy social, economic aspects of modern societies. Due to such scenario, most of us has lost certain feel good factor and innocence that we had when we were growing up (applies more to people who have grown up in 80's and 90's). IMHO, the cars themselves too, whilst become state-of-the-art and technologically revolutionary by every passing year, has lost a certain character and enthusiasts who love cars manufactured in 90's or early 00's, may agree that, their cars has such personality and character, that most modern cars (even the current models of their favorite make) lacks and thus continues to TLC their cars with great dedication and soul. IMHO, For example, a BMW car manufactured in 90's (or early 00's) has such a timeless design aesthetics and driving a well maintained car will give the impression that, people who made that car has such attention to detail, workmanship, passion and are mostly assembled in original factory of the maker. Now a modern BMW for example is mostly put together by robots and are mass-produced items in countries like India or china (no offense to the countries) and during recent ride in a 2015 5 series, I got the impression that, whilst the Car is modern looking and dripping with latest technologies, it lacked that certain character that old ones had and I got the impression that some of the materials used in the new car may not be durable as the ones in older cars. No I cannot afford a 2015 BMW for the time being I do not intent to discourage anyone from buying one. Also I do not intent to undervalue the brilliant tech or modern aspects of new cars, However, my heart always races when i see a mint condition older car (exclusively euro car as I am an euro car enthusiast) on the roads and I don't get the same excitement when I see modern cars. It may be just me or do you also happens to have same feelings for 90's cars. Sound off in comments below Cheers,
  11. Hi guys, I have been looking at the W212 E class for days and found one. Since the car is 5 years old, I would like to know what to expect in the next 2-3 years from someone having experience. I already used a Beemer so pretty much aware about them, but I'm in the darkness on Mercs. The vehicle has only 36k miles and servicing is done by d*mo precisely (I verified with d*mo). I could not find any common issues with the W212 like the outgoing model. My specific concerns are - Will it need the engine mounts to be replaced soon? - Will it need the belt replacement? Thanks in advance
  12. My brother has got a C220 CDI on permit, unfortunately no leather seats as on the BMWs ! where can i get good leather seat covers for my car ? i want them hemmed into the existing seats. Also it lacks a rear arm rest, any suggestion for an alternate arm rest ?
  13. Hi Guys, I am looking for a Mercedes Benz W126 (1985) car & found very few on web as well as papers. Though they seem good I don't really know much about the things I should look for especially they are bit old as in 1980's. Generally what I know is to look for corrosion and mechanically smokes..etc like that. But relevant to this car, Could anyone help me to know more about Mercedes Benz W126 when it comes to buying one such as what things I should check other than regular things that we normally see. And some says its really expensive to maintain such vehicle but I really need advice from anyone who have/had such vehicle or at least having experience about their maintenance. So really appreciate if you can share some details. Finally, if it doesn't violate the forum rules, please share where I can get the repairs done as not every mechanic can repair this kind of vehicles, and what would be the fast wearing parts and give some idea about cost of replacement too. Thanks and appreciate your replies.
  14. Guys , my brother has got a $25000 permit and is planning to buy a c class c220cdi diesel car with +$5000 allowance. Totally $30000 worth. I checked the site and it showed a very basic edition c class in the pic. Could someone here who knows about this permit vehicle tell me is it worth buying ? Are features sufficient ? A rough list of features anyone ? I'm gone abroad and unable to get one directly from dealer. Thanks. P.S., he's not interested in BMW or Audi - bad resale value. 15. In case I've got a $25000 vehicle permit, and I want a car such as a mercedes benz b class diesel (which is not offered by dealer), is there a possibility of importing the car by any other means ? Third party dealers or so ?
  16. Does anyone know if Mercedes benz b class available in Sri Lanka ? I happened to see some in India. They look good and have good performance and efficiency as well I heard.
