  1. Looks like I seem to have taken over the title to the only active member with Peugeots. Honourable mention @AVANTE. Hopefully did not miss anyone else. Peugeot offers good value for money and are loaded with toys. but regular maintenance is required and sometimes can be pricey. Very nice to drive safe cars. Not for faint hearted as these do like to throw issues. Mostly electronic issues, which turn out to be easy cheap fixes. but time and expertise is required. NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR A 121/ALLION OWNER LOOKING TO GET "PRESTIGE" ON A BUDGET. SORRY Since I'm bored, I decided to make a comprehensive study on the French fry AKA Peugeot. Covering Peugeots from the 90s to current models. Mainly talked about are 206,406,407,508,3008,5008 as these are common cars for us. Let's start with the Negatives first. Posting in table format for easy reference. PRICES ARE IN LKR AND BASED ON SRI LANKAN RATES AT THE MOMENT. WILL BE CHEAPER OVERSEAS. I will make edits or changes with time if required. I do not take responsibility on anything and claim to be an expert. Compiled from experience and help from Peugeot Technicians. Some of these negatives apply to all Euros and even some modern Japs. Negatives Fixes and avoidance guide Average cost 1 Electronics are questionable Biggest let down. Come to think of it, All euro cars have rubbish electronics. Will leave you stranded more than once if you don't rectify asap. had to learn the hard way. At least the wires don't melt like my Alfa 156. tops at around 100k 2 Complex suspension Good handling and comfy. But like all euros they are expensive and complex. Ride smooth. Slow down for pot holes/bumps. 407 had some fancy suspension and was known to wear out faster. 150k to 500k 3 Interior dislikes hot climate Get good quality tinted(50K) done. Use a windscreen shade when parked. Avoid parking under direct sunlight for extended periods. Replacement parts are actually very cheap. Unlike bmw spares, that cost the sky and melt if you even stare too hard. 50k 4 parts are expensive depending on the location and accessibility In Sri Lanka parts are often more costly and bit low in stock. Malaysia & Dubai stock for cheap. Ali Express.com has OEM parts for cheap with shipping to Sri Lanka. 5 Needs specialised technicians Like all euro cars. Everyday bush mechanics do more harm than good. Company is subpar in Sri Lanka. Prices can be a hit or miss from them. 6 Engines from BMW MINI (Prince THP) are troublesome Fun and very rev happy. sounds good. can do anything from 4kmpl to 15kmpl depending on the driver. Best avoided. If buying. Make sure engine has been overhauled with the corrected parts. HP fuel pump/injectors are known to fail also. Injectors-35k. HP pump-250k. Overhaul cost-400k plus 7 AL4 gearboxes are troublesome. Solenoids are known to fail. Not too hard a fix. Expertise needed. Regular preventive maintenance is key to no issues. 50k 8 Paint can be hit or miss Paint can fade/bubble over time. Rust is also sometimes found. Garage usage is advisable. Company rates are ok. But needs to be micromanaged 16k to 400k 9 Periodic timely maintenance is a must (not a negative, but Lankans think it is) Maintenance must be done on time. Cannot leave behind for later. Esp 5w30 Oil is expensive in Sri Lanka for unfathomable reason. Older cars can use regular synthetic oil and full service cost is on par with japs. Filters are cheap and plentiful. Oil can be bought cheaper overseas. 10k-175k for full service in Sri Lanka Includes gear/brake/coolant fluid change 10 3rd party spare are not common Cheap non oem parts are hard to find and easily perishable. Advice not to use non oem parts. 11 1.2 pure tech engines issues Powerful and fun. Sound good. Will be worn out faster because turbo & small engine works harder than higher capacity engine. This is relevant to all small turbo engines from any manufacturer. Will need overhaul by 200k. ALSO SOME ENGINES HAD TO BE OVERHAULED AROUND 30K DUE TO DESIGN FAULT. DONE FREE AT AGENT UNDER WARRANTY. MAKE SURE THIS WAS DONE BEFORE PURCHASE. 500K UPWARDS 12 3008/5008 Power steering rack Was changed free at agent under warranty. Was partly due to bad driving/roads. CHECK BEFORE PURCHASE 250k upwards RUNNING REPAIRS AND SUCH. Very similar in price to other brands. THIS TABLE IS ACTUALLY FOR 1ST TIME PEUGEOT BUYERS. PRICES ARE NOT SCARY AS THEY SAY. WILL ALSO HELP 206,406,407 OWNERS NO DOUBT. Intervals have been posted after getting recommendations from several experts who work on PEUGEOT. Intervals may vary and should use caution always. May have missed some. This table is for Peugeots from the 90s onward. Part/s Price (LKR) Interval (KMs or time) Advisory TIRES 20k to 75k Depends on tire. Usually 45k kms. Tires cost the same as other Japs & Euros. Use softer tire because suspension can be damaged with hard tires. Dunlops are a good balance between price and quality. Brake pads 7k to 20k Last long really. Usually every 40k kms. Available from 3rd party junk to brembos. My 508 cost 16k a pair in todays prices.oem. not bad at all. 406 and them still cost under 10k. Depends on driving habits. Brake discs 10k to 60k Same as above Unless a stone or something scratches the discs, they last long and don’t screech. Of-couse brakes depend on the driving habits. Any Filter 2k to 5k Every 10k for oil filter. Cabin/Fuel filter every 20k or as advised. Easily found. AUTOGear oil 25k-100k Older pugs I’d say at least every 25k. Newer pugs say lifetime but I’d say every 40k -80k to be sure. Overseas it’s 20K MILES for older pugs and 50-80K MILES for newer. But in Lanka better change bit earlier because of harsh conditions. Lifetime oil is bs. Newer pugs need 4 Litres of gear oil that cost about 80k. Engine oil (older pugs) 10k- 20k For older non turbo cars. every 10k if synthetic or 5k for mineral oil. Cost the same as an average car. No any special recomendations. Engine oil (newer pugs) 50k average 508,3008,5008 and other newer models. Every 10k. Please do this ritually or you will have problems. Esp 5w 30 is recommended. But please check with agent/ booklet to make sure. Mobil 1 or Total is recommended. AC GAS 10k to 75k Re-gas as neccesary. or check every 2 years. R-134A (or HFC-134a) for most cars before 2016. Cost peanuts to gas. The post 2016 onwards it was mainly R-1234YF (or HFO-1234yf) gas. Now that’s expensive. About 50k usually. Check under hood to confirm type. This Is also the same as any brand. Clutch @AVANTE I need help on this Brake fluid 5k Every 2-3 years is what’s followed in Lanka. So far no horror stories. If you use brakes a lot due to racing or traffic. Better go case by case basis. COOLANT 25k max Every 5 years. Almost never changed in Lanka. Some might change even sooner. Water is not ok. Use a reputed brand. STR sold in supermarkets is water with green dye. Ask me how I know. SPARK PLUGS 2k to 6k each Pug recommends 45K kms. Can attest to that. Cleaning and checking won’t hurt I’d say. Ignition Coils 10k upwards each Check every 20k. Lankans change when busted only. Usually can run for 5 years. Buy and keep from overseas as is very cheap there. Battery 40k to 125k Battery prices are crazy now. Used to be half this. I’d say with prices now, run it dry. Don’t let that mfr die. Expensive af. My 508 cost me 68k for a new brand. Amazon is about 90k. Shock absorbers. 15k to 45k Inspection is the best identifier Wide variety. Can even be rebuilt which I don’t prefer. But not too bad really. Axle oil seals 25k leaks gear oil. common issue after about 10 years. easy fix needs some disassembly to fix. so better to use qualified technician. to be updated. ( WARMLY WELCOME TO ALL COMMENTS, SUGGESTIONS, CRITICISM ETC. 😊 )
  2. Hi, Reaching out to autolanka moderators since I have had no luck in order to figure out how to sort this. im looking to buy a Subaru XV and I checked many through Car checks. but I have a hard time In order to figure out how much it will cost to fix the issue mentioned in the car check report. Even senok is incomplete when they check on the issues and they don’t apparently check hybrid battery conditions. any advise on how to proceed is appreciated.
  3. Hello everyone, I recently bought a pre-owned Mazda Familia BJ5P (YoM 2003) car. I'm a newbie to Mazda and also not much experienced in automatic drives. But I'm willing to get to know this car very well. First of all there are few things which I would like to get advice from you Mazda experts. The car has done 132000km(seems it's genuine) but the previous owner couldn't provide me with its proper service records. What would be the most appropriate services, Changing engine oil, filters, ATF etc?(The colour of ATF was quite good) The steering was a little too tight as if it was lacking power steering a bit. Wheel alignments and the power steering fluid level was OK. What might be the possible reasons for this? What is the function of the Hold button? Is it exactly the same as the OD on/off button on some other vehicles?(I could find a thread on AL on this hold button stuff, but the exact functioning of the "Hold" was not that clear to me) I got to know that this car has Mazda ZL engine. So is it ZL or ZL-DE? Is there any difference in those two?(I just found that it differs from the ZL-VE with variable valve timing) I would like to have an owner's manual and a workshop manual for this model.(I could find a 2003 Mazda Protege owner's manual but it was different in some ways, the engine was 1.6/2.0 there. Is it that Familia is the JDM and the Protege is US/European?) How could I get the exact owner's/workshop manuals for the Mazda Familia BJ5P? I would like to share the experiences and knowledge with Mazda Familia owners/experts and also willing to join with good Mazda/Familia clubs or forums if there are any. Thanks in advance.
  4. I'm due for my 5th service next week and was wondering if anyone could share their experiences regarding the cost-effectiveness of these TL free services compared to third-party service stations. I'm particularly interested in factors such as the quality of service, additional charges, and overall satisfaction. Have any of you found that the free services offered by TL are more cost-effective in the long run, or do third-party service stations offer better value for money?
  5. Hi Everyone, Thought to start this topic to keep a record on maintenance and repairs if any. The car referred here is my Lancer EX (for those who don't know) and the details of it could be found here. I bought the car just about an year ago with a mileage of 108000kms on it clock. Car had all following things done at 94000kms when I bought it. 1.Replaced all four shocks and dampers. 2.Engine Tuneup plus new plug set. 3.Alternator Belt replaced. 4.New tires installed. 5.New Battery installed. 6.Fron RHD bearing replaced. 7.Auto Gear Oil Changed. All the above except for the battery had been done at the agent (Unit#d Mot#rs). When I bought the car, I didn't have anything to do actually. Feel lucky about this and thankful to the previous owner. (Maybe a merit of selling my previous car in the same condition) Anyways, I'll list down the repairs/maintenance the car underwent during my ownership along with the details of pricing and all. All you guys of the Lancer EX Auto Lanka fraternity, please feel free to use this thread to share details of repairs & running maintenance of your cars as well.
  6. I'm having with my Toyota Axio 2015. Whenever I hit the brakes, my car unexpectedly forces backward, making driving in stop-and-go traffic incredibly annoying and inconvenient. I haven't been able to get my car serviced for about a year cuz I've been aboard. The brakes are seem to be working okay, but I think the issue lies with the air pump or vacuum system related to the brakes. It's like the brake booster or vacuum system might be acting up, causing this backward force when I try to stop. Is it might be ABS issue? Does anyone have an idea? Thanks.
  7. Anyone know oil filter should I use for Suzuki Swift (Beetle - ZCS71S) ?
  8. Hi all, I just did the 2nd service of my car couple of days ago and I noticed that after washing the undercarriage, they washed engine bay area with high pressure water and also dried it up with high pressurized air. Is this normal practice or not recommended at all? I remember I read somewhere in AL that engine washing is not a wise practice or something. Anyway no any problems occurred after that. Engine bay looked very clean as well. ? Can you guys give me some clarification on this so I can be vigilant next time. I hope they know what they are doing. TIA
  9. Guys, I'm looking for a place to service my Audi A1. Unfortunately Senok does not handle re-exports so I'm left with using an alternative place. do you guys have any recommended places?
  10. So I took my car to St###### in Boralasgamuwa for a full service. Though she is a brand new unit, the service reminder was due - 86 dates, so thought of giving her a full treat. This is the first time I am doing a car service on my own as this is the first car I own. Long story short, I wasnt satisfied by their service. I know I dont have much previous experience to compare. But from what I saw, I decided not to get a service done from them again. The way they treat vehicles is very bad. All the owners are chilling in a waiting area while cars get washed/ oil changed out of their sights. I doubt most of them have ever witnessed the actual process at least once. I thought of having a walk around in washing area out of curiosity and was not happy about the way they did the service. The process in a nutshell, Use high pressure water to soak the car, spray some cleaning agent, quickly rub the surface with an old piece of towel (hey where are microfiber cloths?), and done. Also, I dont know if its ok or not, but the service guy applied some foam and washed it away with some liquid which I think is water. Then he applied high pressure air to the engine bay to dry it up. I felt the pressure was too high for smaller engine parts. Worst that he did it in a hurry and I am not sure if he dried the engine properly. I went back to the office and inquired a service adviser about my concerns and he told it is the usual process of servicing. He said it is a special chemical to clean the engine bay and it is not water that they use to wash the engine bay. But I am certain that I saw steam coming up from engine (why is there steam, if its not water?). I am not going to go in detail about my entire experience, just wanted to share what I saw and how I felt. In a positive note, they have a very good front office and good system established to make appointments and gets the job done on time. But the quality of the service is highly questionable. I dont think this is an isolated incident, so thought of sharing to make people aware. Maybe I am being paranoid, maybe I am thinking too much, but it doesnt harm you for being a bit more vigilant about the way others treat to things you love.Thank you.
  11. Where can i get a usual 5000km service done for a peugeot 5008 except from da dealer (carmart). bz car was imported personally. any suggestions?

  13. Hi All I have a Corolla 141 car. I recently brought it. I do not have proper knowledge in car maintenance. I check my cars coolant levels, water level and engine oil often as i can. Is there any more items that I should be checking regularly? Further please let me know how often should I service the Car. Should I consider the mileage as priority or the time period 6 months ? . I know cars should be services earliest as possible. But we need to look the economical side as well. Thats why I asked. Also is TOYOTA service station is recommended or can I use other service stations as well from your experience? Please let me know any other better places Guys please help me with the above. Thanks
  14. Hi everyone, Although we cannot exactly track what a vehicle has been through for many years of its usage. As buyers, it always makes us confident if we can examine the vehicle service records before buying a used vehicle. Do you maintain your service records? what you feel about its importance?
  15. Hi, I use a Honda civic gen 10 2018 and today after running around 27500 kms the service due icon appeared. When checked in the maintenance it lists 3 things with service due in 28 days. Please check the attached screenshot and below details. B: Chassis inspection 2. Dust and Pollen Filter 3. Transmission oil As i ve heard transmission oil should be changed in 40000kms. Can someone please advice if i need to change Transmission oil as well.
  16. I have found toyota axio 2007 which has all its services done at Toyota Lanka. Im planing to buy it since the car look in good shape. Before buying it i thought of taking it to Toyota Lanka to get a inspection report. So when i take the car to them would the verify the records with their history and also confirm the ODO reading is genuine by cross checking with their records?
  17. Hi Guys, Today I have bought a honda city 2000 V-Tec car and I want to know a good and trusted place near Kandy to service and do some repairs in my car. This is going to be the first service I'm doing after buying it. There is a little power steering oil leak and I need to get it repaired too. So do you guys have any suggestions for me on a place to repair it? Service and repair from two separate places is okay. Also, I really appreciate it if you guys give me a hint on what to check in this first service after buying this old car...? Thank you.
  18. Hi fellow drivers, Just got a viva elite 2012 manual recently and need to repair / replace some stuff related to brakes (could be pads / caliper pins etc.). I live in Panadura. I need a close by guy to make my go-to-guy. I don't think #UNIMO will be good given that many people here complain of the service and prices. If you know any good place, please drop a note on prices too . Thanks! (If I'm replacing brake pads or caliper pins, do I need to go with original products or A-grade replica? I heard originals can be around 20k while a good replica is 2k something. Correct me.) @Admin Sorry Admin, please move to 'Request Information On A Good Mechanic/ Workshop And Discussion'. Still new to this.
  19. When I was looking for new car, advertisements and car salesman's talk about the warranty and free service for the car. Some say you would be a getting a warranty from Sterling Japan with free services and other say you get free services for Auto Miraj. If Sterling warranty is included generally the price is couple of laks more. But when I ask about details about of service they were not able to provide me with the clear answer. 1. Has anyone use this free service from sterling Japan. Who are the local dealers or contact point ? 2. Has anyone claim the sterling warranty ? If so from where and how ? 3. Is sterling warranty is real at all ?
  20. Hi All, Please be kind enough to share your experience if u ever did a service from the Honda agent in Sri Lanka.
  21. Want to Jump to the 2019 discussion on this? Click here. Guys I want to do a little research on service quality, customer support from our local agents for different vehicle makes, please share your experience. Even though most of us heavily depends on our own preferred mechanics, it's good to have some support from official local agent for our vehicles (if exists). This is something to consider specially for first owner vehicles since on serious damages there's nothing much a local mechanic can do other than saying "take it to the company", have you delt with the local agent for your vehicle make? how's your experience? My Experience With Toyota Lanka I bought my toyota aqua from a sale at dutugamunu street, so it's a JDM one and i've took it to Toyota Lanka 2 times and their service has been outstanding. My car recently got attacked by a rat (http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/16551-rat-problem-advice-on-next-steps/) and did some serious damage and local mechanics couldn't even figure out what the warning light was for. They found the tiny wire break within 20 minutes and gave me a good walkthrough (they know their stuff). Please share your experience, will help others to determine what kind of after sales support available for their vehicles.
  22. Guys, pls help me to choose service station for my allion 260 YOM 2007. Milage >90k Kurunegala area, should be good service and reasonable prizes. Thanks
  23. After going through all of autolanka found lot of records regarding service places for bmw. But most of the records are around 2013 or before. can any body recommend better place for a service for bmw f30 imported out side prestige. they are charging 950000 for registration at company. Thanks in Advance.
  24. Hey guys, I managed to get myself a used car recently and I have a bunch of general questions regarding a few things. Servicing: What are some good places for this? I've a Toyota, but I assume going to Toyota Lanka isn't really an economical idea. Repairs and Parts: Again, places. I want to DIY a bunch of things on the car, and would love some input. Currently there's a leak in the windshield washer and I want to get the tubing replaced, how should I go about this? Dashcams: I feel like this would be a good investment. Anything you guys recommend? I felt like there isn't much info around for new car owners, so if there's anything that would be helpful, please share. Much thanks in advance.
  25. Hi there helpful forum members Just recently bought a used 407 in mint condition exterior and interior with all the due services done with a full service history.
