  1. Hi all, I’m planning to buy my first car. I know it is not a good time when it comes to buying vehicles these days but after waiting years struggling to collect money now Im finally there and I really need a vehicle. Found this forum recently so thought this is a good place to get some advices from experienced people. I don’t have much experience with vehicles as this is going to be the first car in the family too, so please be kind when advising if I’m being stupid 🙂. To be honest I will not have to drive this car daily. I’m a Software Engineer and I work from home. So mostly I will drive this car in short distances regularly but plan to go on trips with the family so reliability is important. My max budget is 4.5M. And as this is my first car I’m planning to go for a small car so my choice is a hatchback. So far I have done some research and my choices are Swift (beetle) & Mazda Demio. I know these cars are old but with my small budget this is what is there. Maybe I can go for a 2014 wagonr? But I don’t like the look. But yeah fuel consumption and maintenance cost is also must be considered but as far as I got to know Swift is not good in fuel economy even though that is my 1st choice. Some says Demio does better in fuel consumption and I already read some threads here but Swift still feels like it has more features than the Demio (Please advise if I’m wrong). So guys, What are your opinions on my choices and do you think there’s a better car for my needs?
  2. Hi all, I am currently looking to purchase a Japanese hatchback within a budget of 4 million. The car will be used for a weekly commute from Deniyaya to Colombo, and needs to be capable of handling hilly terrain as well as city traffic. To meet my requirements for both fuel economy and engine power, I am considering purchasing a car with a 1000CC+ engine and a fuel consumption rate of 12-18 km/L. There are two options in my mind, 1. Demio 2008-2010 2. Swift 2007-2009 (Swift second generation cars won't be affordable in my budget) What do you guys think about buying a pre-2010 Japanese car these days? Or should I go for something like Perodua or Hyundai? I went through old threads for both of these cars. But there are few questions they won't address in those threads 1. Most of the discussions I found were from the years 2010-2015, but those cars are now around 15 years old. I believe that expert opinions and answers may have changed since then. 2. Given the current fuel restrictions and expenses, I am concerned about the fuel economy of most cars and whether they will be cost-effective in the long term. 3. I am also curious about the impact of import restrictions on spare parts for these cars. Is it still possible to maintain older cars these days, or will it be difficult to find parts and keep them in good condition? Thank you.
  3. I am looking for the english owners manual of this car if anyone have it please share the link
  4. Recently I replaced rack of my Suzuki Swift ZC71S and replaced with re-conditioned rack. But I've been experiencing the same issue which discussed earlier in the forum.(Steering not returning after turn to left) According to the AM* Peilyagoda, the tie rods (which comes with the rack) does not compatible . The similar type tie rods had on previous rack too and had the same issue (Not returning when turn to left) They tried to find tie rods for this model but they couldn't (The service they provided was horrible and don't want to discuss it here) Please see below photos. Anyone know this is normal for tie rods? (It could be better if someone has photos of the same model tie rods). What A*W said was there is no vehicle in there garage to check (I don't belive it)
  5. Anyone know oil filter should I use for Suzuki Swift (Beetle - ZCS71S) ?
  6. Yesterday I couldn’t start my car using keyless start option because the car remote battery was dead. Then I start the car using the car key. After that I put a new battery to car remote, but now I couldn’t start using the car using keyless start option. Always I need to use car key key to the car. Locking and unlocking using the remote works without a problem. I’m supposed what has happened after replacing the new battery. What shall I do to get back the keyless start option? Car : Suzuki Swift 2010
  7. Person agreed to give two front shock absorber (recondition) for Rs. 10,500. is there anything that i should look specially prior fixing it?. Brand new price of the shocks (KYB) is around Rs. 25,000. Is it worth purchasing a recondition for 10,500 or should i replace brand new kyb shocks? Thank you in advance
  8. Hi, I have narrowed down three models for the current budget of mine which is below 4.4m They are, Toyota Vitz 2017/18 Suzuki Swift 2017/18 Audi A1 2016/17 My plan is for casual use on weekends and some weekdays. Which would you recommend for overall comfort nd driving. (If I have missed any model please tell me as i am still on research stage).
  9. This is a rant + seeking advice so bare with me also I have read most of the threads on comparing these cars but still I have specific doubts My use case - 1 Weekend drive kandy to nuwara eliya (Every week) 2 Driving within gampola/nawala pitiya suburbia ! I really like what I have now its an AWD DA64 Every wagon, its small, compact, Lot of space K van with 64hp thats more than enough for me. Also I really like the AWD its entry level but helped me lot of times (every RWD vans have this issue of rear wheel spin) The bummer is body roll its unbearable ! People are telling me to go for big tires wider (boku) alloy wheels, nope I want things to be stock (will change alloy wheels of correct size but not wider ones ) Now mine does 8kmpl city with 4 passengers and long drive 9-10kmpl thats okayish for me My budget is around 3.5 - 4.5 Million but I am looking for practicality (A to B, dicky space, less body roll, basic options, compact vehicle) My choices I love the new swift but it lacks ground clearance 120mm is not enough ? New vitz hmmm all of you guys were complaining about it comparing it for a CR42 so meh.. (145 mm is enough but what about rear passenger seats and dicky space ) New Passo same engine but if I get a boon I can save a lot, BANG for BUCK ! (concern is body roll ?) Tank/Roomy spacious vehicle (again concern is body roll ?) Also vitz 2010-2012 1.3 or RS versions its an old car but I like the RS version I have no issue with having more hp, its just compact ones are most of the time lacks hp UPDATE - I dont like turbos Im going NA Guys please advice read most of these threads http://autolanka.com/forums/topic/21383-what-is-an-suspension-upgrade-for-a-vitz-and-howwhere-to-get-it-done/ http://autolanka.com/forums/topic/21477-vitz-or-wagon-r-turbo/ http://autolanka.com/forums/topic/21509-buying-a-new-vitz/ http://autolanka.com/forums/topic/21088-vitz-safety-editions/
  10. Dear friends, My Father's 2008 JDM Suzuki Swift (zc71s) is having this engine oil leak. As shown in the image and as far as I can understand, this leak is from a sensor point, is this the crankshaft position sensor? How do I rectify this issue? Your valuable opinion is highly appreciated. Thanks guys
  11. Care to share some enthusiasm? The swift needs no introduction. Along with the Jimny, it's Suzuki's biggest money maker. It's a popular car among young enthusiasts, Tuners and ricers alike in Australia, Pakistan, India, Japan, Europe, Thailand and even here in Sri Lanka. It's the best selling hatchback in some of those countries. Alot has been documented on these cars in the internet due to its popularity as a grocery getter, learner-mobile and fun to drive machine. Suzuki took it rallying too and it is a popular budget track/autocross car. The Go The base JDM version has the M13A (equipped with DOHC & VVT, pushing 91hp) while our car having been the indian ZXi, had the G13BB engine (SOHC & Non-VVT, 86hp) , which is shared with the Zen, Gypsy, Jimny, Cultus & Esteem (not to be confused with the iconic G13B in the Cultus GTi). It's a simple engine, reliable and very economical. Nothing special here. It was discontinued after 2010 but new parts are plenty. Can be ordered from India, Japan, China and some other Suzuki engine parts are interchangeable. The gearbox is a 5-speed, smooth and is nice to use. The clutch on the Indian version is known to be weak though. Our car had an Exedy set on it and it was decent. The Looks It's a carbon copy of the Japan swift. The only differences are: 1) The antenna on the Indian version is upfront while it's on the back on the JDM version 2) The Wheel wells have a bit more gap due to the slightly taller suspension 3) There's a VXI/ZXi badge & ABS sticker on the trunk A smart looking hatchback, and the Azure gray paint suited it well. Not a Pininfarina product but not an ugly little bread loaf either. Only gripe for me were the 14 inch rims and the wheel gap which needed a bit of reduction. Shifting the Swift Swifts are stiff cars, this is a well known fact. Ours even had a set of KYB Excel Gs upfront so there goes. Body roll is minimal and the car is stable but they are uncomfortable for very long trips. But who cares when you are tackling the corners with joy and making the passengers sick. Compared to a March or Vitz, it's slightly more spacious and it's tall so visibility is awesome. I'm 5'8" and my dad is 5'10" and both of us fit well in the driver's seat and had ample headroom. Space and dimensions are exactly the same. Interior is the same too except there is no fuel economy calculator & external temperature thermometer. The Indian version is prone to rattles when it ages, they did exist in our car but it wasn't annoying and occured only when traveling on rough roads. Don't be fooled by the 200km/h speedo. V-max is 165km/h, 0-100 takes nearly 12 seconds but that's not the point. This car is all about the 'driving a slow car fast is fun' philosophy. It's no slouch either, as it is lightweight, it can pull off overtakes pretty well and has decent torque at low rpms to compensate for the 86 pony powers. It's a fun little bugger, never failed to make me smile. Some reviews compare it to a go-kart, it kicked off an affordable tuner culture in India, Jeremy Clarkson said the Sport version is better than the Mini of that year and James May said the 1.5 is a fun thing. What it lacked in power, it made up for in handling. Bells and whistles The ZXi has dual airbags, ABS/EBD, Auto AC with LCD screen, multifunction steering, rear defroster, rear wiper, 14" alloys including the spare tyre(same ones as the JDM 'Style' edition) shod with 185/70/R14 tyres. All these options are absent on the VXi and the tyres are 165/70/R14, hence I do not recommend the VXi for safety reasons. Indian cars have a reputation for being death traps, but the ZXi is an exception. It may not be solid as the JDM swift but its worlds above any other Indian hatchback. Like stated earlier, it's stable and solid enough for its size and weight, which is 1010kg (dry). Do keep that in mind when considering a car for a budget of under 2 million. Frankly, it's the only Indian car I'd recommend. Care to Mod? Alot of possibilities but If I could, I'd put a nice cat back exhaust & Cold air intake, flash the ECU, put 195/60/R15 tyres with a good set of 15" alloys as the chassis' potential is restricted by the stock wheels. Then for cosmetics, a Swift Sport Bumper front and back with a twin exhaust muffler, a subtle spoiler and a set of projector headlamps is more than enough. Or just swap in an M16A from a Swift Sport/SX4 and call it a week. A check through the TeamBHP forums will show guides on DIY mods and cases of turbocharging, engine swap and tuning too. What to specifically look for when buying *The interiors are of good quality but find one which hasn't been baked under the sun. *It seems overheating is a common issue of all Swifts (Indian and Japanese), so inspect the engine bay for any oil leaks or stains which are signs of gasket/seal failures. Inspect the paint on the hood, if there are tiny dots of popped metal/paint, it could be a sign of an overheated car. *These cars can be cornered and used hard, so keep an ear out for rattles and clicks from the suspension during the test drive. This is a 12 year old car afterall. *Check the engine bay, sills, underbody, wheel wells, under the rear seat & spare Tyre compartment for rust. Due to age and quality of the metal used in the Indian version, it's not scary but it's inevitable. Ours was well maintained yet had a tiny spot of rust in the spare tyre compartment and engine bay, still miles better than what I have seen in recent model Altos. Economy Obviously the Indian is cheaper to buy than the JDM, parts are cheaper/similar pricing as the JDM and fuel economy is better. *JDM manual does an average of 10-14kmpl *JDM auto does around 8-11kmpl *Indian manual, does an average of 11-16kmpl As of 2020, Expect to pay 1.85 - 1.9 mil for a 2008 ZXi (150k less for the VXi). All 2008 cars will have the magical 80k - 100k mileage on the odometer so don't bother believing that. If budget permits, a Japanese manual is a better equipped choice (provided one comes up for sale, as they are rare here). Expect to pay around 1.9-2.0 mil for a 2006 version. It's a shame to see the swift ZXi included in the 'Indian cars are crappy tin cans' package, just because the build quality isn't upto jap standards. No point in arguing with the bayyas and sales people either. It's a decent all rounder, as reliable as a japan swift, was alot of fun and proved to be good value for money. Ours was with us for a short time but I'll really miss it

    Suzuki swift 2008

My brother recently brought Suzuki Swift 2008 (DBA-ZC71S. 1300CC) and there are some things to clarify. 1. When AC on the radiator fan noise is noticeably very very high is this normal of this model? 2. Engine heat is very very high more than other similar capacity cars (But heat gauge needle is in the center always). I used to own a Chevrolet Cruze and engine is M13A which also on Swift beetle older models never heat this much. (DBA-ZC71S has different engine and i need to clarify is this normal for this model? After 1/2 hour drive cannot even touch the bonnet stand. Fuel consumption is 6 to 8 without heavy traffic. I feel that there is some issue on cooling fan or engine cooling system. Any expert or Swift owners please reply me. Thanks
  13. Hello Guys, I’m looking forward to buy my 1st car and need suggestions from the expertise. My budget is from 2.3 Mn – 2.8 Mn & Following requirements. No Indian Cars Should not be older than 2007-2008 Should be comfort for drive, Better features Less maintenance - cheaper parts, widely available spare parts. Will not be driving daily therefore Fuel consumption - if it does more than 7 – 8 kmpl good enough. Hatchback preferred; but don’t say no for Sedan Should be automatic Resale value - Not expecting a profit when selling but should be sell with demand Car should be suitable for Semi – Urban (Northern Region - Jaffna) Please be kind enough to give me good feedback & share your experience to select a better one. My options are in priority order; Mazda Demio 2010 –Rack Issues; Please advice Suzuki Swift 2008 or better (Japanese) – give pros & cons Toyota Vitz 2007 or better – give comments about Toyota Auris 1500CC Honda Fit GP1 2011 or better – CVT Gearbox Problem & oil burn issues; pls advice Toyota Passo Please let me know your comments.
  14. Hi guys, I need some help to buy my first car. I have 3 cars in my mind. please give me some information about these cars (fuel efficiency, maintenance cost ,..). my budget is about 23 - 24. Suzuki Swift 2004 Toyota IST 2004 Suzuki Wagon r 2014-2015
  15. So I finally got the time to do a proper write up about our new car which we bought happily & with confidence thanks to the valuable members in Autolanka as we avoided around 20 crapboxes along the way thanks to the advice you guys offered! (I promise that's not an advertisement lol) It is a 2008 Indian model, so no use in comparing with a jap model but this one gets better fuel economy (around 14 or 15kmpl outstation) & the manual version doesn't ruin the resale value like a japanese vehicle because it's the only transmission available, so YAY! It has a 1.3L 85hp engine with 5-speed stick along with a new battery & clutch! The ZXi is a bit uncommon compared to the base VXi thats seen around here. So the ZXi has ABS, multifunction steering wheel, standard alloy wheels, keyless trunk access, Seatbelt adjuster, climate control with LCD screen and the ZXi badge which adds 5hp & 2Nm. Overall a pretty basic car but very fun to drive! Gearbox is smooth & precise, steering feel is good & it's nice to take on corners with this thing! (comparing to the wagonR, Vezel, Yaris & other cars with vague-feeling electronic steering setups that I have driven before), body roll is minimal & engine is very smooth and quiet too! We hit 120kmh while going through Kumbukwewa and it was really stable. Only wish for this car is that it had a better sound like the ZC31S sport version! Only gripe for now is to change the old standard radio unit to something like a pioneer setup & the S badge on the steering wheel has lost its color and is as yellow as my grandpa's teeth. Should I cover it up with a silver vinyl or paint it?
  16. Hi guys my suzuki swift started making rattle sounds from the front driver side (sound comes from underneath more like from the rack) when going over bumpy roads and there is no sound when driving on smooth roads. Also there is a rubber squeeking noise when turning the steering wheel from the center, sounds like rubbing on rubber. It is more noticeable when you drive a fair distance and when the engine is warm. I have attached the link for two short videos of the noises: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1CIcWsxez7ZYbNpazTndgTuRFdQQFzf0I (You might have to use earphones for the rattle noise video because it is quite hard to notice) Is this a known issue for Suzuki Swift's? If anyone has the same problem and have already solved it please let me know. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks
  17. About 3 months ago I bought a Suzuki Swift 2008 1240cc CVT model. recently there was a small oil leak (more like oil vapor) through the tappet cover. When I remove the tappet cover to fix this problem I saw there is engine oil sludge. (Refer attachment) what should I do to get rid of these? Technician at A*W Attidiya said they have seen worst and just to increase the oil change frequency. (3000-3500km cycles) I would be really grateful if some advice can be given? (Current mileage: 78,000km)
  18. Hi everyone, I'm looking to purchase a new car for my daily commute. I'm currently driving a '08 Vitz and am looking to upgrade. I was initially settled on the Swift RS but then the VW Polo caught my attention given its styling and build quality. I'd like to get some information on maintenance costs for the Polo and its generally reliability. I'm looking to drive my next car for another 5 years so resale isn't a priority but generally a reliable & comfortable car that will be cost effective to run. My usual commute involves school runs and work during peak traffic hours so fuel efficiency is also quite important. Please let me know your thoughts and thanks in advance.
  19. So I was on a hunt for a car for few months. Was initially planning to buy a used Honda GP1. Then decided to buy a GP5 as I saw 2014/15 GP5 being priced around 4 mil price range. Then I thought of importing a reconditioned one as I managed to stretch my budget a bit and spoke with a vehicle importer and asked for quotations. But he said now vehicle taxes has changed and cars like GP5 & Aqua (with 1.5l engine) costs more than before. He suggested going for a smaller engine hybrid like Swift RS or a normal car like Vitz, both of which I have ruled out due to various reasons. Enough ranting ? I have several queries, 1. Most of GP5s advertised are around 50k mileage costing around 4 mil. Some are tagged as "agent maintained". If I buy an “agent maintained” one with records, would I be able to get a car in good condition as per the records with a genuine mileage? 2. I see Honda vezels of 2013/14 priced around 4.3 mil. Has this been the case even before the taxing? Or do the hybrids with medium sized engines now have a lower price tag? 3. Will there be a policy change any time soon? (I know this is a stupid question considering the quality of our policy makers) I am a newb to the fancy metal world. Any answer would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance. ?
  20. Hi guys, this is my father's swift 2004 1.3cc car. For some time now, an unusual sound comes from the engine bay when engine is started, in low RPMs and also when moving with 'D' but most of the times with lower RPM values. It's more like a 'Grrrrr...' sound. that's how I can explain it. It was checked at a local garage for a possible engine mount issue but they said there's no problem. Still it is there. I have a small video clip but the sound I mention here is barely audible in the video. If anybody has an idea what this might be, it would be of great help to get this sorted out. Thanks. URL for video clip
  21. Hi, I observed that my Suzuki Swift (Beetle) steering wheel not returning to center after turning into left side. Also there was some noice when drive in gravel roads. So after inspecting in garage, they replaced lower arms and links and aligned the wheels. After two days, exactly same issue came again. Again I went to the same garage and they were suspected that sound came from rack and they replaced it with recondition rack. But still issue is there. Still steering wheel not returning after turning to left side and noice coming when drive in gravel road. What could be the issue is? regards, Flash
  22. i’m having some issues with CV joints as most others have here who has the same vehicle. and some heavy noise when i going through a bump and stuff. (maybe shocks?) Can you guys suggest me a good place to fix these things up as my knowledge about cars is below avarage Thanks in advance!
  23. When checking on sales, swift 2017(non safety) and vitz 2018 (safety) both are somewhat in the same price range. what do you think of these two cars? fuel economy, engine quality and performance, build quality, parts prices, interior space, ground clearance, 2nd hand market value and etc.. ?
  24. Hi, What petrol fuel type(92 or 95) should be used for suzuki swift RS turbo 2017 (non hybrid) and toyota vitz 2017? how can i get to know which should be used? or is this a dumb question?
  25. Could you please recommend me a good tyre for Swift 185/60R15? Also, want to know the shops to buy tyres with warranty. Please pm me if your answer violating forum rules.
