  1. After going through all of autolanka found lot of records regarding service places for bmw. Thanks in Advance.
  2. Hi, This has reference to one of my earlier posts, in which i sought advise from upgrading from my Jaguar S type to a model within BMW E38, E39, E60, Jaguar XJ X350, etc. With valuable guidance from AL members and through my own evaluation, I have decided to go for a BMW E38 (or X308 XJ LWB Jaguar as X350 is currently out of my budget), preferably a facelifted 1998 - 2001, 740iL long wheel base car. From my limited knowledge, I think there are very few long wheel base E38's in the country, hence finding one has become somewhat of a challenge, hence I seek the help from fellow AL members. During last 12 months, there were 02 LWB cars advertised on quick sites and here on AL. I wonder who own these now and also interested to know more details of these elusive cars. Thanking you Kal-El
  3. Hi guys, There are a few BMW i3s for sale. prices start from around 3.8 million. Is it a good car for city driving, basically 30-40 km per day. Do you guys have any experience with this car and major issues etc. and what is the warranty of the battery.
  4. Hi, I'm thinking of buying a BMW E38 740i . How should I plan my purchase ? - As in look up Vehicle History Records , Vehicle Condition etc . Also, who would be the Mechanic to go to or should it be to the Agents ? How much money would it cost to maintain it each month on average ? Is the fuel consumption about 4km / Ltr in Colombo ? My usage is 1500 Km's per month . Please tell me / warn me / educate me about this car in a Sri Lankan context . Thank you
  5. Hello, I am in the market for a hatchback car or a small SUV(used). I prefer a luxury car brand. My budget is about 6 to 6.5 million. As of now, my options are a 2011 BMW X1 or a 2017 Audi A3 Sportback. I'm in a bit of a dilemma because the BMW has a 2000cc engine and is diesel whereas the AUDI has a 1000cc and is petrol. Any help would be highly appreciated. Please let me know of any other options I have. Thanks in advance

  7. Hi All, I am thinking about upgrading to a BMW E36 or E46 from Grande Punto. Can anyone give me advice on fuel efficiency and the issues these two models might have? Also is it possible to get any recommendations for any other brands i might have not considered as an upgrade (it doesn't matter if it is an euro or jap), i'm looking for reasonable fuel efficiency, reasonable power, comfortable interior and somewhat of a sporty look. my budget is around 3.5 mil. Thanks in advance.
  8. My friend has a 1972 BMW E12 325 sedan. It is in really bad condition and the engine is a toyota engine. It is a rust bucket but I love how the car looks with the classic lines. How much would a car like this cost and is it worth restoring? The engine is a Toyota so that is a relief for now I can swap a BMW engine later. What about shocks springs ? I am guessing no one is selling these parts. If any one has any experience with this please give me some ideas or talk me out of buying this junk. Thank you
  9. Hi all, I have two options BMW 318i M Sport 2017 BMW 520D 2012-2013 Both will roughly go around 9-10 million. please advise me which one I should go for.
  10. My story starts long ages ago, when I was yay high! I was lucky enough to have an Uncle who was a BMW fanatic! Walking into his house I saw what lay in his garage. At the time I did not know all the model codes but I knew they were BMW's. Not one but two fantastic looking E39's parked side by side. The image was seared clearly into my memory and from that moment on my love for them only grew stronger. Years passed by and then I met another person (known as Esdeez over here) who was passionate about the Bavarian brand as much as I was (Actually more). Becoming very close friends was imminent! Soon after he got his first Beemer, I had to have one too. So after much persuasion I managed to get Dad into saying yes. But there was a problem I wanted an E34 but Dad wanted a E36. A compromise was made, so yes Dad had his way. But there was another issue now. Money was there but finding a good car was an even harder task. As always I wanted a proper six pot E36. Rare as they were I came across a 320 in my colour of choice BLACK! Sadly Dad wasn't interested as it needed quite a bit of attention. Had to let it go, something I deeply deeply regret even as I write this. All good things take time I guess, nevertheless I came across this 1992 316i. Dont be fooled by the number plate though, its not a 318 (at least for now) Seemed okay on the outside. I was looking for a project car nevertheless and Dad was satisfied with the motor. So with my impatience to taste Bavaria we slapped some cash on the desk and drove her away. Decided to name her Eva..... The above shot was taken by Esdeez at one of the first BMW Meet's I had attended. It looks pretty good here actually (maybe it was because of the photographer?) But as the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover seemed true as Dad and I made a bit of hasty decision. The paint was well, intact but sections of it were turning grey. Supposedly someone had tried to buff it too much. It had silly looking number plates which I changed to the nice clean black ones (as seen above) and boring alloys and a FART CANNON! More than that, the AC conversion on this UK spec car was pretty crappy but managed to sort the whole thing out as well. To be honest soon after I bought the car, I only had it for a couple of days. It was in the workshop for over a week! Then with me leaving to Malaysia for higher studies, time for Eva ran short. So it was put aside for a couple of months. But while I was away, Dad's was busy getting the car touched up. At last Eva was presentable to the general public! By then I managed to install some Angel eye's. A must have add on for any BMW owner! And the previous owner had gone to the extent of performing a facelift to the front end too. Sure does make a difference. By the way the paint hasn't been cut and polished as yet. I will be claying the whole car once I am back in December(2013) and laying down some good polish to get it up to my standards. But a full back to bare metal respray is on the cards! More on that later. Sadly though I wasn't satisfied with the car! Well main reason been the puny 1600cc engine pushing this thing along was just stupidly underpowered! But it hadn't even done 100,000km's when I got it so the engine was pretty smooth. The silly fart cannon was thrown away for a brand new OEM 318 Exhaust ( cost me a pretty penny that). Why stock you ask? Its a 316 no point spending a lot on something nice, plus the 318 exhaust improves performance slightly! It just needs a better tip at the rear. This is Eva's resting grounds! With dear Cera parked in front. Once I removed the fart cannon though I found out another issue. The noise that exhaust made hid something even worse. All of my wheel bearings were Kaput! They made this nail biting drone over 50kph. Ah the frivolities of owning a German! This thing managed to burn quite a big hole in both my Dad's pocket and mine. Add to that when I took the car for inspection, my oil pressure switch was leaking oil badly! So once again the car went into hibernation till we sourced the finances. Dad managed to fix the front wheel bearings, replaced the pressure switch, new air filter and put in new oil and filter! And again we were broke. Didn't have enough dosh to put in the rears! Studying abroad was slowing down progress sadly. Remember I said I wasn't happy with my purchase and lost all hope in the car and the brand itself. Well that was all about to change! Been a young lad I had never got the chance to drive long distance. In other words take an epic road trip. I wasn't too interested in taking Eva cos of the evil drone, but the Ceres was under the knife at the time and my Uncle from Aussie had made plans to go to Udawalawe. So Eva it was. It was on this trip that I really understood what it was all about. Hell I couldn't keep up with my Uncle's Allion, but wind in my hair (I had the sunroof open most of the way ) and no parents to tell me what to do, the drive was epic. Even with the annoying drone, The E36 managed to make me smile all along the way. And never gave me any problems at all. Everything was fine for a 21 year old car! She faired really well on the trip to Udawalawe. So was the trip from there, down south. Stopped by the side of the road cos the views were pretty amazing! I was really happy though for another reason. At last this car managed to made me smile! I was considering giving it away even though I would loose a lot of cash, but that trip changed my mind!

  23. Hi Guys, Please share your opinions and advice on BMW E60 530i. I need to get an idea about maintenance, fuel economy and if there common issues. Thanks.
  24. Hi, Gentlemen and ladies (if there any) I currently own a S Type Jaguar (2000 model year), which is a great machine that has very unique and distinctive looks and loads of road presence, specially where I live most of the time (outside the Colombo). However, I have been thinking of trading my Jag to one of the following models. 1. BMW E38 - 740iL preferably (1998-2001) - used to be a dream car for me and still is to some extent, very rare to find. 2. BMW E39 - 525i, 530i preferably (2001-2003) - not sure if this will be a downgrade from my S type Jag in terms of looks, sheer road presence and power. 3. BMW E60 5 Series - (2003-2006) - Nice car, not many on classifieds like the F10 5 Series 4. Jaguar XJ (X350) - (2003-2007) - The big brother to my S Type. Amazing looks, expensive and very rare. 5. Audi A6 (C5) - (2000 - 2003) - also, not sure if this will be a downgrade from my S type Jag in terms of looks, sheer road presence and power. 6. Merc W211 E Class ( 2002 - 2005) - Looks elegant, may not be a bang for the buck due to high demand for Mercs in SL Since I am used to fuel consumption, parts availability and maintenance cost of premium euro's, I humbly request from you to guide on on, 1. What kind of improvements that each model will offer in comparison to my S Type Jag ? 2. Can you point out a mint condition E38 (long wheel base LCI), E39, E60, XJ - X350 that is intended for trade / sale ? 3. Other general advice ? Thanking you for your precious time.. Kal-El
  25. Hi Automobiles or cars as we used call them, has long become a commodity and are now mass produced trade items that aims to fulfill the automotive requirements of contemporary human beings, whose day to day routines IMHO, are much more sophisticated now and reflect the chaotic and busy social, economic aspects of modern societies. Due to such scenario, most of us has lost certain feel good factor and innocence that we had when we were growing up (applies more to people who have grown up in 80's and 90's). IMHO, the cars themselves too, whilst become state-of-the-art and technologically revolutionary by every passing year, has lost a certain character and enthusiasts who love cars manufactured in 90's or early 00's, may agree that, their cars has such personality and character, that most modern cars (even the current models of their favorite make) lacks and thus continues to TLC their cars with great dedication and soul. IMHO, For example, a BMW car manufactured in 90's (or early 00's) has such a timeless design aesthetics and driving a well maintained car will give the impression that, people who made that car has such attention to detail, workmanship, passion and are mostly assembled in original factory of the maker. Now a modern BMW for example is mostly put together by robots and are mass-produced items in countries like India or china (no offense to the countries) and during recent ride in a 2015 5 series, I got the impression that, whilst the Car is modern looking and dripping with latest technologies, it lacked that certain character that old ones had and I got the impression that some of the materials used in the new car may not be durable as the ones in older cars. No I cannot afford a 2015 BMW for the time being I do not intent to discourage anyone from buying one. Also I do not intent to undervalue the brilliant tech or modern aspects of new cars, However, my heart always races when i see a mint condition older car (exclusively euro car as I am an euro car enthusiast) on the roads and I don't get the same excitement when I see modern cars. It may be just me or do you also happens to have same feelings for 90's cars. Sound off in comments below Cheers,
