  1. Hey Guys im new to AL i wanted to know how much would it roughly cost on maintaining a BMW e30. I checked all the forums on BMW e30, but couldnt find proper info about the maintenance side. this car fits my budget well and i was planing on getting a Japan car but i my heart is for the E30. so please help me out guys.
  2. Hello Everyone, A bit of background: I was looking for an E36 for some time and I found a 1991 316i recently. The interior seems to be in good condition, nothing seems to be changed except the radio as far as i saw. On the outside, an M3 kit and lights have been fitted, which i don't mind although i wanted to go for the stock look. The paint was chipped on the front without a dent, and had bubbles in a few places. There was a lot of rust in that common place under the car just behind the rear wheels. I'll be going for a test drive soon. I asked a friendly mechanic to join on the day, to inspect the engine a bit, because the owner seems to be a fan of changing parts. But the mechanic is Japanese car fan and a jack of all trades sorta fellow, so I'm thinking he won't like this much anyway. Now to the issues: A signal light had been broken, and a door speaker was missing. The owner agreed to reduce the price for these parts. The engine is M40 so I feel like a thorough inspection should be done, with the timing belt issues and all. The owner had replaced many parts in his little time with the car (i'll take a look at the documents for these), and if these changes weren't done correctly, I might be in for a lot of trouble later on. Finally my questions: 1. I was wondering where I can buy the two parts that are missing, and any others that I'll require later on, and how much they'll cost. 2. Is a second mechanical inspection necessary? And if so what's the best place for it in colombo? (I was thinking prestige) 3. With the background I've given, are there any big issues with the paint and rust, etc, and are there any areas I should inspect thoroughly when I go for the test? 4. After buying a car, I'm planning on finishing up the documents and insurance stuff and then getting it serviced and fixed up at M****ys probably. Is there anything else I should do pre or post purchase? Thanks. P.S. Apologies if i'm reposting, but i couldn't find any threads focused on mechanical inspection and parts.
  3. Hey, just wanted to know any helpful tips before I plan on buying one of these babies in the future once I've saved up enough! Its hard to find a Manual 728i . They're the most economic with the inline 6 engine. But the ones I did find for sale were these - 728i Auto (Inline 6 engine)-http://riyasewana.com/buy/bmw-728-sale-gampaha-193298 - pretty expensive in comparison 740i Auto (V8 engine 4000cc) - http://####/en/ad/bmw-e38-740i-1995-for-sale-colombo - good price but v8 I once did see a white colour 728i Manual for sale but it was quite high. Looking forward to buy one to build up and because I am in love with old BMW's. In a year or two these prices will drop some more as the latest 7 series hits the local market. Thanks in advance tc
  4. Guys, Sometime back, I remember there were many 320Ds on the road. May be because of the permits and all. But nowadays It seems I hardly see one of them. Any idea what has happened? Any common issue or something? Appreciate if you can share something. Thanks
  5. Hi friends, I'm trying to buy a BMW E36. This is for my daily use. Im traveling 40km (more o less) daily office and back to home, with in colombo. I'm looking for a 316i, where most of peple say it's evonomical for daily use, because of 1600cc 4cylinder engine. My budjet is arround 1million. Please advice me on this. thank you.
  6. Hi everyone I'm planing to buy a bmw e36 316/318 in near future , probably a 1996- 1999. This is going to be my FIRST car Is it a okay car to buy ? I mean what are the major defects ? common issues ? I've heard some rumors about the water cooling system on it. but does it really matter for a properly maintained car ? I saw couple of vehicles which are up for the sale and the conditions are much better comparing to a JDM of its own class , Leather seats ,Climate control A/C etc . most are going around 13 - 16 lacks in here SL market. as far as I'm not really concerning about the fuel consumption but at least does it run 8-9km per 1 liter ? I'm okay with that range and what are the engine models that I have to care about ? heard m40 is sohc and m42 is dohc , does m42 comes with the 318i ? I dont want to shoot for bigger engines , I'd be happy to go for 1500-1800 cc , Since I'm not a car expert , correct me If I was wrong and please do comment your valuable answers and help me to get some information about it Thank you !
  7. Hi Guys, I'm facing kind of a quandy here. So I'm coming to the experts. I'm going to buy a new car and have the following options. Brand New Geely Emgrand EC7, imported by Micro. 3.2 Mil LKR. Made for the european market, has a 4 star safety rating, so not really "chinese crap". 3 years warranty in Sri Lanka, 5 years in other countries, so probably reliable. Looks good. Micro however doesn't really has a good customer service record. A 2004 BMW E60 520i Milage around 50,000 KM, About 4 Mil LKR. Well it's a BMW. Always wanted to own one. It's a 2004 model though. 5 series has more electronics. Good rep. But I don't want to end up having to do a very expensive repair every two months or something. Toyota Allion or a Premio probably around 2010 or a nearby year. About 4 Mil LKR. Good market, after sale value. Cheap repairs. I'm not really concerned about fuel economy. I'm just looking for a car I won't have to repair every few months. What do you guys think I should buy? Thanks.
  8. Hello guys, I currently own a Mazda Demio DE3FS 2007. I have no prior experience with a euro car. But always wanted to own one. This idea of owning a BMW 320D E46 suddenly came because the owner of my rented how is going to sell his beamer. I know the car for 2 years now and this is how it is. * Car was bought directly from Germany when he was the Sri Lankan ambassador to Germany * Car has only 60,000 kms on the clock * He drives his car only about 100kms for a month during last two years * He asks 2.8 mil for the car These are my requirements with the car. * Reliability is a top priority. I drive long distances in the night. Therefore, I don't want to be in trouble in the middle of the night. * Affordability - I can set aside Rs. 240,000/= a year for the car (insurance + service + maintenance). I drive about 15,000-16,000 kms per year. Opinion from the experts are highly appreciated.
  9. I am in the market for a new vehicle and was looking at the Vezel (I know i know!) However after giving it some thought, seeing how the hybrid tax has gone up and reading some advice on AL I thought I should ask for suggestions from the experts. I saw someone list used BMWs as a better option than the Vezel and so I thought of giving it a go. My motive is to get a newer car so I face fewer repairs. I only sold my older car (Civic 2003) because I was tired of repairing it every 4-6 months. I saw a couple of beemers advertised on AL. I saw some E60 520D 2006 facelift models which look nice, however a friend told me to steer clear of the diesel engines because they have a lot of maintenance involved and SL has poor quality diesel. Can someone shed some light on this? What sort of repairs can I expect from a 2006 model? I also heard that servicing a beemer costs 35k+, but they have some long lasting oil so the service is done at a longer interval than regular car. Is there any truth to this? I also want to know how the resale is like for beemers, because with any car you expect to resell it after sometime. How much could I sell this model for after about 3-5 years? If you think I should go for another car (that is available for purchase on the AL site) for this budget please feel free to let me know. I sold my car recently and I am stuck without a vehicle. I guess it was for the best, because if I had rushed I would have probably ended up with a Vezel.
  10. Hello Good People, I am buying my first car and my preferred choice is a beamer E36 can url help with few tips like what to look and all, your help is greatly appreciated Thanks & Best Regards, Dex

    Bmw 520D

ok folks so the 520d has an a TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine. Does this Twinpower mean 2 turbocharges or a just a single turbo? I know BMW uses two turbos one for low speed and one for high speed for some models but for 520d does it use two turbos? any views will be appreciated.
  12. Trying to decide between BMW 320D vs Allion 260 and I need your help. Been lurking over this forum for quite a while, did my own online research reading tons of past threads but if any of you can share some honest insight specifically on this, that's gonna be a huge help - for me and many others! Don't think this question/comparison has been done before. Aight, my goal is to figure out what'd be the better choice out of these two - BMW 320D vs Allion 260 (almost the same as Premio). If you need a manufacture year for the benchmark, let's use 2011. Not planning to get it down, looking at buying a car that's already been imported - so probably gonna be the 2nd/3rd owner. I'll be using this mainly in Colombo and suburbs. Not a family man, just a cool bloke here (family men can be cool too!). I'm not going to be a cheapo - I want to live my life to the fullest, but also not going to forget the fact that SL is one hellova peculiar market - thus wouldn't want to drift too much away from it and live in my own world either. Neither I'm a fanboy of any brand and a pretty much newbie when it comes to vehicles - thus here I am on a public forum asking for expert advice! My observation/thoughts - Roughly a 2011 Allion 260 would be around 55-60 lks whereas a 2011 BMW 320D would be around 65-70 lks. The difference is one million; now I'd love to go for a BMW but my main concern is if BMW offers the same/more features as an Allion (probably a "stupid" question already but heck, I'm here to learn and grow). In my own comparison, here's what I know so far. I should also note that I did some intensive research and chose these two cars are two great contenders overall. Resale value - Both (tho Allion, bearing a Toyota badge seem to have a more stable market value; less depreciating.) Fuel Efficiency - Allion Parts - Allion Prestige (common, let's be honest ) - BMW Features/Specs (my main concern) - Allion? (Again probably another stupid remark but on almost all Allions, and their specs I did see tons of "bells and whistles") Driving pleasure - BMW? (Assuming BMW has less features, can it exceed the overall experience we get in an Allion?) Build quality - Both? Requires less maintenances (comparatively) - Allion Probably for those who are well versed with the subject this might not even be a worthy comparison - as you'll know what's the best right off the bat, but just sharing your honest opinion without trolling/going with the wave would be of immense help. Please feel free to ask if you need any of my inputs, to craft a better response.

    E30 Touring

So this one isn't so much of a project as the 34, nor am I sure whether I'll be keeping her for too long, but with the blessings of S_N, I hereby share with you some pictures of my E30 Touring. The car is 1992 316i Touring, one of only two or three ever imported into the country. I'm a big fan of the uniqueness, and the classic lines of the touring, so I decided to take the plunge and bought her early last year as my daily driver. Unfortunately, E30 life hasn't exactly been the smooth journey I was hoping for. Unfortunately due to some pretty dodgy repairs by the previous owner (only apparent after the engine was pulled apart) I was in for a wild wide, which led to a mini rebuild of the engine. Being a UK car, one of the biggest differences we discovered was whilst putting in a new radiator. As you can see below, the dirty and abused one is the much smaller, UK spec, and the nice new original BMW unit above is the tropical version: Engine rebuild in progress, and fitting of the new head: And finally the vital fluids being poured in.... And the moment of truth!
  14. Hi mates, Recently , one of the E32 (7 series '92) models caught my eye and it was kinda love at first sight. To be honest i love the round head lamps of the Beemers and am one of the people who seriuosly miss it . I am wondering as to whether it will be a viable project to buy a bit of run down example and then completely rebuild it, (but most of the machines i see are priced over 2Mn a pop, whihc i feel is a bit too pricey). I see plenty of E34's being revamped , but not 32s. Lot of internet copmmunities you get for these babes , but just wanted to share some experience with a pro member at AL, who has done a complete rebuild of a 32. Thanks in advance

    Bmw 520D

Hey anybody here ordered BMW 520d for the permit?? If so did u see the car and how does the interior looks like, and how soon prestige told they can bring the car??
  16. My brother is planning to buy a new european car and he has test driven both 5 series. He says A6 interior is better and has his mind on the A6 I think. I dont know about the prices but since both are of same class, I think its going to cost about same money as a new 5 series . I seen that most of Al senior members have European cars and know much about these two cars. I need the following info about these two cars and your ideas on which is best to buy. 1. Any known issues with the F10 5 series. (520d) 2. Running costs of two models. 3. Agent's after sales support 4. Anything else we should consider Thanx in advance.
