  1. Hello guys....wow its been a very long time since I last came here...just need a lil help from the experts.. My friend has a Toyota LH 51 super custom which has an auto gear box. It has a problem where sometimes when you put it in to "D" position it does not move at all. But as soon as you put in to "R" it moves..but does not move in a single forward positions. Well checked the gear oil and seems to be at the level..but I think the "ETC" light is also on. Can this be the issue. Guys can you please help me with this ?? Thank you in advance
  2. Article is relevant to Toyota users in General and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Montero 2010 up, Lancer Ex 2010 and Subaru XV owners 2014. It’s been ages that I logged into Auto Lanka. I was thinking of sharing some information concerning Car Audio upgrades for all those new car buyers and for the ones who are planning to swap their Jap Nav system to any aftermarket solution. I have been in the car audio scene for a bit and I thought it might help someone if I share some insights to selecting the Perfect fir DVD system for 200mm size car stereo slot. Most cars I have put on top has 200mm spec. Find picture attached to see difference between universal 2din (180mm) and 200mm 2din . If you do a quick drive to few car audio vendors, you will notice there are so many options to choose from. Varying from Chinese non branded to branded solutions. I am not going to entertain any Chinese non brands here for the simple reasons of them being very low quality, non durable, lack of spares and after sales service and it’s very hard to distinguish between different variations of Chinese players unless your an expert. Having said, I recommend anyone to go with any of the most popular brands in Sri Lanka. The three most famous brands at moment are JVC, Kenwood, and Pioneer in alphabetical order. Kenwood has the largest market share (due to large dealer network and 2 years warranty and after sales service) and Pioneer (Playing catch up) and JVC (been silent for a while) share almost similar shares (some how I feel Pioneer is in second place but cant be certain. (Information is based on my knowledge and not by any statistical review so please don't panic I may be wrong) Brands such as JVC, Kenwood, and Pioneer offer a variety of solutions that fits the Toyota cars. To my knowledge, JVC does not offer a Toyota specific model (200MM size) yet, they offer universal solutions that fit Toyota with the help of two trim brackets to cover the extra space available on either side. The JVC model I am referring to is a KW-V40BT or its newer bother KW-V41BT, is an economical solutions compared to the equivalent models from Kenwood and Pioneer. Local JVC agent is Gilbert Car Audio, if you need further information and any dealer information call them up. However, the best-fit models for the Toyota are offered by Kenwood and Pioneer brands (So far). The 200M model offered by Pioneer is the AVH-XL5750BT. Damro is the agent for Pioneer in Sri Lanka and you can find out the nearest dealer if you call them up. The best-fit model from Kenwood is DDX-615WBT. in fact Kenwood offer 3 more models if you plan on settling for a higher spec model, and a low end version (universal converted to a 200MM using a special facelift plate) which I am not a big fan of. However, the best and economical models are the above listed model codes. If you are after Kenwood, Pet#o Lanka is the local agent. Call them up to locate the closest dealer. One thing to keep in mind is that most of these models will soon be replaced with 2015-2016 models somewhere in November. Not sure, who is first to do a model change but JVC first, then Pioneer and Kenwood is the last to release if I am not mistaken. But till then you can use this as a guide. Until recently, most of the branded DVD systems could not offer GPS Navigation with Sri Lankan maps. Now there is a solution for that. Navgo Electronics offers aftermarket external plug- in navigation interfaces for OEM screens and branded DVD players. The Navgo interface converts a standard DVD player (such as a JVC or a Kenwood) to a navigation DVD player. So all those JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer DVD owners can enjoy Navigation just as the built in solution. So if you are looking for a branded DVD with navigation features, bundle your purchase with a Navgo interface. Most of the time local maps are pre-installed. (Either Sala ProSat or CityGuide depending on the vendor). I am not sure who the local agent is at this point but you can go www.navgoelectronics.com to get more details. Most reputed car audio dealers offer this. Again, this is a branded solution made to work and meet the performance requirements of DVD players such as JVC, Kenwood, and pioneer. You may come across fake copy products and I don’t have to explain all over again what you experience might be if you decide to go for any of that. The above models are also relevant to all Mitsubishi Montero, Outlander. Lancer Ex and Subaru XV owners. The perfect fit for these are a 200mm face DVD. PS: There are few other high end solutions offered by the above brands but for many I believe the value for money is what I have listed out. Also there are other good Chinese/Taiwan DVD brands such as Caska, Necvox, Adayo, FourYou etc who build quality products. So when you shop get it from a reputable dealer. Keep in mind "A good product creates a brand, after sales service is what keeps that brand alive". For those who didn’t know specs: *- Double Din stands for the 2DIN or ISO universal DIN size 2 the width is 180MM *_ 200MM is a size specially came in with TOYOTA brand cars. The stereo sizes extended to 200mm *_ Trim brackets 10mm ear panels that covers the excess area left on either sides when you install a double din (180mm).
  3. I would like to own a bit sporty car before Midlife crisis hits me. My budget is around 1.7Mil mark. Currently I own a Mazda Demio Manual -1998 Model – grate on fuel , not sporty Yes I have read most of the threads about carina GT - which are 3-4 years OLD. I need the feedback about current market... Most carinas will hit 20 year mark next year Apart from Fuel consumption – what are other downsides? maintenance/parts etc.? My other options are – Honda Ek3 Toyota Cerus Mazda BJ5W (Love the look) nissan primera P11

  5. Hi there people , We're planning upgrade our family vehicle and I need some help from you experts. Currently owning a Toyota SR40 aka Noah as family use and will be looking for a vehicle to replace that one. Honestly I have no idea about new hybrid drive system that used in 2015 Noah and others ( Power and Fuel Consumption). Well what I'm searching is an SUV Model or Mini Van Model something like Noah . But I prefer the SUV type. My Budget is around 55 Lakhs. The list of vehicle currently on my mind 1. Toyota Noah(2013-2014) Hybrid 2. Toyota Vanguard Petrol 3. Nissan X-Trail (2008-2012) 4. Kia Sorento (2011) 5. Ssangyong Rexton 2012 ?? Any Models rather than those ? All the Vehicle must be capable of at least 5 comfortable seats ( Additional Third Row seats - 7 seater might be perfect) What are the aspects of having Diesel SUV's rather than going Petrol Models ? please let me know , most of them use the CRDI Technology which needs Super Diesel ? Heard when using normal patrol for CRDI engines caused the engine tappet "ticking" sound. Is it true ? What will be the Maintenance Cost specially for Kia -Sorento and Nissan- X-Trail (Diesel)?and how's the Practicality , Reliability and Durability of those models ? I know this is a lot but it's the all information I know , correct me If I was wrong and please do comment your valuable answers and help me to get some information about it Thank you !

    Axio 2008 Issues

Hello friends, After using the CS3-2007 for almost 2 years, I sold it the last weak. I enjoyed the time with it, and many thanks to you guys for helping me with my CS3. A few days back I bought a Toyota Axio 2008-X. It clocks 86000Km and transmission oil changed at 50000Km. A tech guy said that he hears a faint hum from the gear box. But on climbing an elevation it can be brought to 80+ Km/H easily and on a avg drive it can reach 100+Km/H with the Econ bulb on. Two days back we went on a outstation trip and believe it when I say it has done 20.3Km/L on Oct95. It has a very good emission report. So I doubt the tech guy's comment. What is your opinion? It has PRNDSB gear possitions. What is "S" ? Is it for sudden accelleration or is it to gain more power when needed (eg: for a climb) - kindly explain.

  8. I have seen car sellers advertising that Five (05) Free Services will be given for the Toyota Aqua cars buying from them. Is it really true? I was told by someone that only the labour will be free and you will be charged for the oil etc. Can someone have experience enlighten please? Thanks in advance.
  9. Did a bit of a quick draw analysis on cars prices advertised on a popular local classifieds, maybe it can be of some sort of numerical substance for the many of the arguments here It's work in progress, hopefully we can discover something interesting. https://medium.com/@crunch/galle-road-wars-part-1-c9b3e534a5a

  13. Hello, My maximum budget is 1.7 Million, What is the best car tor buy
  14. I've been using this car for about 20 months now. when I got it it has done 56k and now 85k. during this period of time, I had to replace the low beam light several times, almost 8 - 10 bulbs I've replaced during the period. When I spoke to the previous user, who is a colleague at my work place, he also mentioned the same issue. Since the problem is known I had one spare bulb in the car this weekend, when I was travelling to Kandy, left side bulb went off, Upon reaching the destination I changed it. However when I stared the car last nyt to come back, the right side low beam gone off. Any good electricians who can attend to this. PN : My car developed a HV battery issue for last 6000km, I tried some diagnostics without changing the battery, nothing worked out well. last week I got a battery service done at Dilly's super in Panadura, where they cleared much of the oxidation from the bus bars. I've the pictures to post, but the capacity restrictions doesn't allows me to do so. During the trip to Kandy, the car did about 10% - 20% good on fuel. However I'm yet to confirm whether the HV problem is fully resolved or not.
  15. I'm thinking of swapping my Toyota Trueno's 5A-F carb engine for an engine with more HP. She is my daily so I want her to be reliable as well. Please suggest me a good engine along with their pros and cons. I need the engine 1. To be from Toyota 2. To fit into the existing mounts, without any fabrication of the firewall 3. To have E.F.I. 4. To be available in SL with their gearbox, wire harness and E.C.U., for a reasonable price 5. Not to screw-up the weight distribution of the car Currently considering 4age (black-top, silver-top), 4agze (heard it's a bit rare), 4efte, 3sge, 3sgte (not sure whether these will fit an FWD) Thanks in advance
  16. like to know the Toyota corolla model differences ....xli , x, G
  17. Hi Guys! I am new to this site. planning to buy SUV in range of 2.5 - 3.5 million. I have checked Toyota Surf Emperor models, Isuzu Bighorn, Defender 110 etc. Can some one advice me what would be the best option in terms of running cost, easiness of finding spare parts etc. I don't like to spend much time at Garage for reparing Thanks
  18. Hi Guys, I'm facing kind of a quandy here. So I'm coming to the experts. I'm going to buy a new car and have the following options. Brand New Geely Emgrand EC7, imported by Micro. 3.2 Mil LKR. Made for the european market, has a 4 star safety rating, so not really "chinese crap". 3 years warranty in Sri Lanka, 5 years in other countries, so probably reliable. Looks good. Micro however doesn't really has a good customer service record. A 2004 BMW E60 520i Milage around 50,000 KM, About 4 Mil LKR. Well it's a BMW. Always wanted to own one. It's a 2004 model though. 5 series has more electronics. Good rep. But I don't want to end up having to do a very expensive repair every two months or something. Toyota Allion or a Premio probably around 2010 or a nearby year. About 4 Mil LKR. Good market, after sale value. Cheap repairs. I'm not really concerned about fuel economy. I'm just looking for a car I won't have to repair every few months. What do you guys think I should buy? Thanks.
  19. Hi Guys.. Dashboard Crack is a huge and very common problem on Axio (Old). is there any solution without replacing a new. if not how much it will cost to replace a new and where can we do this thing with reliable. Tnx.
  20. Hi Experts, Im using a 1996 Model (Auto) AE 110 Toyota Sprinter (Petrol). The car has done 237,000 Km (it was 187,000 when i bought it 3 years back). I used to do the service at 5000 KM intervals but when i reach about 1500-2000 KMs after the service, the engine oil level drops to the lower level. And within the 5000KM period i have to top up the engine at least 2 times with new oil. Im using Valvoline multigrade oil. But the fuel consumption is OK and doing 10KMPL at the city Did an engine tune-up at Mr. Dhammika Fernando recently and his advise was to do the service at 2500Km intervals. My Garage guy (mechanic) suggested an Engine overall repair or replacement of rings. Is there any place that i can get the car tested? or what do you recommend? Engine repair or replace the rings. I had a bad experience with my previous Ford Laser engine repair as it didn't perform well on fuel after engine repair. Thanks
  21. Hi... I bought brand new Toyota Voxy Hybrid few months ago and I'm getting 10-12KMPL in the city and 15-17KMPL on Highway. this figures for the city limit is correct?
  22. Hi AL, Thought I'd share photos of my KE72V. Technically it's my father's but unofficially it's mine A little history on this- my father imported this KE72V DX in 1989 with 40,000kms on the ODO. It's been with us ever since! The milage now is a little over 141,000kms and it still purrs along without any issues. I'm in the process of restoring it to factory original specification but I'd love to replace the stock K40 transmission with a k50 (5speed) transmission. I would if I could find one for cheap! I've even got the original seat covers! (I'm looking for another set, let me know if any of you good KE72 owners want to sell yours!) Instrument cluster- Future plans- I've already wet-sanded the entire body with 1500grit sandpaper in anticipation of a cut/polish job. Sadly that was a few months back and I spent all the money I had on another project! I'm hoping to cut/polish the paint soon. Both rear lamp lenses are cracked and missing bits so I'm searching for new lenses. My car is missing the fan shroud (better known as the 'radiator cover') that is essential for the factory AirCon to work. I've given up looking for an original so I'm going to try and get one scratch built. That's about it, hope you enjoyed my ride as much as I do! Thanks for stopping by and regards, Jay. EDIT: I moved all my photos of the '72 to a separate album in Photobucket so had to repost the direct links. Hope they turn up!
  23. Guys, Hows the fuel economy of New Toyota Passo (Hana) model? I had the Passo old model(2007) it did around 10-14 kml. I have seen the new model has "Eco" mode also. Any ideas???
  24. My car has done 69k so far. in terms of fuel also its doing quite well. however when I start the car, i hear a sound like rating when the engine warms up. when I asked Toyota Lanka they said to do the engine tune up & see. Since it is doing good on fuel and no difference in pulling power, would engine tune up help to resolve my problem. Anything other places to get an inspection done prior to go ahead with the tune up.?
  25. please fuel consumption and maintenance cost of Toyota ist 2002-2004.. and need to make a choice between ist and swift beetle..
