  3. Hi. can someone please send me few places to buy a Toyota 3C turbo diesel engine with gearbox. i went to few but they dont have it. Im doing a conversion and in a bit of a hurry. thanks in advance
  4. I have a Toyota Corolla 121 (1.5 xli, manual) which has clocked just over 200k km. There are fair amount of squeaks and rattles while driving, body needs few fixes (rusted side mirror arm, door trims etc.) and electrical system needs a complete re-work. My knowledge on automobile is minimal and experience with garages aren't the best. I am looking for a place to get the car a complete make over both appearance and performance. Can anyone suggest a reliable place to get it done please. Also I would like to know should I consider an engine overhaul and what other aspects should I consider in a make over. Thanks in advance and any advice is greatly appreciated as I am next to clueless
  5. Hi, I have TOYOTA IST 2003 (NP60) and recently it has been operated with a bad fuel consumption.Usually it operates 10/12 , but currently it operates like 8/10.Last year I have bought her, and since then I haven't done a Engine Tune up for Like Year. I think it might be causing for the low fuel consumption. But finding a reasonable & trust-worthy place to do a engine tune up is little bit harder than finding a Unicorn in these days .And will there be anything more to the Low Fuel Consumption, rather than the Engine Non-Tune up. So do help me out with your personnel experience in selecting a good place or person do an Engine Tune up. Thanks
  6. Can I Install 18" On A Prius 2016 ? What Effects Will It Have On My Car ? (Such As The Ground Clearence) The Car Came With 15" Now Running On 17". Thx Guys.
  7. Hi Automobiles or cars as we used call them, has long become a commodity and are now mass produced trade items that aims to fulfill the automotive requirements of contemporary human beings, whose day to day routines IMHO, are much more sophisticated now and reflect the chaotic and busy social, economic aspects of modern societies. Due to such scenario, most of us has lost certain feel good factor and innocence that we had when we were growing up (applies more to people who have grown up in 80's and 90's). IMHO, the cars themselves too, whilst become state-of-the-art and technologically revolutionary by every passing year, has lost a certain character and enthusiasts who love cars manufactured in 90's or early 00's, may agree that, their cars has such personality and character, that most modern cars (even the current models of their favorite make) lacks and thus continues to TLC their cars with great dedication and soul. IMHO, For example, a BMW car manufactured in 90's (or early 00's) has such a timeless design aesthetics and driving a well maintained car will give the impression that, people who made that car has such attention to detail, workmanship, passion and are mostly assembled in original factory of the maker. Now a modern BMW for example is mostly put together by robots and are mass-produced items in countries like India or china (no offense to the countries) and during recent ride in a 2015 5 series, I got the impression that, whilst the Car is modern looking and dripping with latest technologies, it lacked that certain character that old ones had and I got the impression that some of the materials used in the new car may not be durable as the ones in older cars. No I cannot afford a 2015 BMW for the time being I do not intent to discourage anyone from buying one. Also I do not intent to undervalue the brilliant tech or modern aspects of new cars, However, my heart always races when i see a mint condition older car (exclusively euro car as I am an euro car enthusiast) on the roads and I don't get the same excitement when I see modern cars. It may be just me or do you also happens to have same feelings for 90's cars. Sound off in comments below Cheers,

  10. My car is Toyota Premio 2007 NZT260. My ABS warning light on dashboard have been indicating ABS warning(shows ABS warning light as log as car engine is running). I checked it with Toyota Lanka and they informed me that "Replace rear left hand side wheel bearing because it is not sensing". They informed me that it cost around 40 000 rupees. Is this the only solution that I have? Are there any alternative solutions?

  13. Hi all, I own a Toyota Aqua. And I do my regular services at C*rePo*nt. Last time when I took it there for the service that guy who changed oil requested me to do an engine bay wash saying that area is so dusty. Upto that point I only allowed them to use the high pressure air (Because from the place I bought the car asked me not to wash the engine bay as it might cause further damage). The reason that serviceman told me was that due that dust it might create an unnecessary heat in the invertor and may lead into early problematic situations. Also he stated that they use a special chemical instead of water. So I allowed them to do so. During the process I saw them using high pressure water. Since I was in a hurry to my workplace I was not able to ask them why they used water as well. So my questions are 1) Is it okay to do such an engine bay wash especially for a hybrid which is filled with complicated electronics? 2) Will the dust really remain as a causative factor for heat generation in the investor (like the dust layer acting as a heat insulator) ? 3) If it is necessary to do the wash how often should I do it (I know this question may sound stupid as it depends on the amount of dust collected. But I mean generally is it necessary to do it like I change oil in every 5000km's. I use solely this car for driving within the Colombo city) Thanks in advance!
  14. Dear all, I am having a 2007 Toyota Belta which I purchased one year back. Recently a slight jerk was noticed when slowing down from around 50 to lower speeds. The jerk happens only once during the slowdown and occurs very rarely. Therefore, I went to reputed mechanic and he did a OBD scan. Even though the check engine light was not lit up, an error code was recorded which indicated that the engine knock control sensor was malfunctioning. Have any of you guys experienced this problem?? If so, please shed some light regarding this matter. :( Thanks in advanced. FYI I bought it when the ODO meter reading was 67 000 and now its 84 000 kms. A full tune up and a CVT gear oil change was done when purchased.

  24. So finally got something worth writing about in AL… So your first car is actually something special, for car crazy fans it would be like Jeremy said ““It’s what non-car people don’t get. They see all cars as just ton-and-a-half, two-tons of wires, glass, metal and rubber. That’s all they see. People like you or I know, we have an unshakable belief that cars are living entities. Not like a Toyota Corolla obviously, but a real… You can develop a relationship with a car. And that’s just what non-car people don’t get.” - Jeremy Clarkson. Have seen in AL alone people restoring oldies or even bringing newer once a bit of a kick from what they were before. So what I got is actually a 1996 Toyota Carina GT AT210, 4A-GE Blacktop 20v engine, 5MT. and someone along the way decided to change the lights, shell n bumpers with the 1999-2000 model. For the record when I took hold of it, it had done 135k on the clock and by the time I started this project the clocked just ticked off to 180k (just putting it out for the record). Due to work sadly had to leave her ideal for about 6 months occasionally being started up by my dad but by the time I returned it was in a fix… the process included an engine rebuild also of a 2nd option of getting hold of another newer engine. The latter option was going nowhere with some guy quoting the engine, gearbox and suspension as one unit. Finally got hold of one, which was in a pretty good nick. The engine rebuild was closer to buying a new engine so opted to go for a newer one. After the engine swap, was sent off for paint. Choosing a decent color alone was a bit of a headache but pulled it off thanks to the Honda Catalogue which was “Kaiser Silver” and have to say it was a right one to go with. Right about now it’s in the last stages of touching up the few bits and pieces. Removing all the parts to the bare shell means there are few squeaks and rattles coming from everywhere for now hunting them down. Also left with a few additions of TRD spark plug wires, Greddy oil filter, voltage stabilizer (en route by now) shocks and wheels need to be sorted out from here. Have to say during this time got to know one epic gentlemen here whose car is well known in AL forum as well as the person who built it, although I would love to give credit to him with his real name for helping me out, I will just say he is the resident Doctor Komi himself. Although I am car gone wild, coz of him I was able to get in touch with few pretty awesome guys, few being Rumesh & also Nadeeka (who seems to have every part imaginable just about everywhere in his yard…it’s just amazing). And also the member “OctaneHead” who writes great blogs about the car culture in SL. So humbly like to thank you all for your help. Keeping most of it in its original condition, and welcome any input from you guys and if I missed out on anything do let me know. Before shots...think these were taken right after i bought it
  25. Hi Guys, Recently I have replaced all my brake shoes, rear and front. Now the when I pushing the brake there is some free movement in the brake pad. So in order to apply brakes I need to push deeper. Then the garage person check for any air in oil, and did something like "brake katuwak pannawa", not sure what that is. But result is still the same, and the garage guy said that, since you've replaced all the pads, it'll take sometime to sync and later the you dot need to push this much deeper. Is this the normal case?.. Or is there something wrong with my brake unit? Thanks.
