  1. I woke up one day and I now want to buy a W140. The brain works in mysterious ways. It definitely doesn't understand the concept of money since I am nowhere near affording one.

Thats going to burn a huge hole in your pocket. Its true you get too tempted when you find it difficult to save some money. I am drawn towards model cars, RC and watches... very expensive stuff nowadays.

  2. Got the car tinted after a very long time. CoolMate branded at Bara Stereos since 3M is too expensive but it came with a 5 year warranty. 30% Visible Light Transmission on all Windows + Windscreen, makes a noticeable difference in the temperature of the leather seats after a hot day
  3. Kinda want to buy an unreliable German, idk life seems to be too peaceful these days?

@matroska haha you bet, not sure if I want to sell the Camry, but I kinda want to see what the other side of reliability has to offer, regardless of any car I get its only going to be a weekend toy since my 9-5 is WFH

Buy an old hacked (which is what most of them are underneath the shiny clearcoat) german or any other euro for the matter and you will soon be on your knees for that camry again.

Try to get a project without selling the Camry.

@AVANTE makes sense, just means it'll take a bit longer for the capital to come around but should be worth it :D

  4. Is It even an old Yota if it's not burning a bit of oil?
  5. Quite possibly!, I also definitely have a slightly heavier foot which might account for the extra 40 kilos
  6. Sorry for the spam, was just offloading some pics/memories
  7. Here's a pic of @IndulaC and I, two 23-year-olds and their big babies
  8. Right after a quick cut and polish on the 23rd of June
  9. AC line developed a small leak near a O-Ring, got it replaced and serviced at Deep Freeze on 18/10/2023
  10. Camry cools a bit too much on the highway o.0 should I be concerned?

If the temperature scale is from 0-100, normal/spirited driving means the temperature is at 45%, little below half, but I was cruising on the highway and it drops to like 25-30%

Most big boy toys kinda dip under half on highways or long cruises. And you Toyota fellas are trying to create trouble. * Cries in Alfa Romeo 156 *

  11. Can confirm 2002 onwards Camry's are bulletproof, but yeah for a daily you might be spending quite a bit on fuel.
  12. This rounds up my real world testing of the Camry's fuel consumption for a 2AZFE (2.4) Extra Urban Spirited Driving - 6kmpl - (Giving it the full beans in the dead hours of the nights) Extra Urban Driving - 7.5kmpl - Inner Colombo Driving Urban Driving - 8.5kmpl - Colombo-Battaramulla-Malabe (low traffic, if traffic see the Extra Urban figures) Highway Average - 14kmpl
  13. Took the Camry out on the highway finally (If I go down south I usually go with friends in their vehicles) after 3 years of ownership. Pumped full tank on both ends of the highway to check consumption at different speeds. As follows; with average speeds and rpm. 16kmpl - 90 - 110kmph - 1900RPM 13kmpl - 120-140kmph - 2300RPM
  14. I'm very biased, but Starlets are also a nice buy within that range albeit older and lacking some comforts. Some of my best memories are in one and my friends and I miss that car dearly , 800 kilos and super fun to drive in a spirited manner.
  15. I drove a 2013 Premio for 400km recently. It was the full works. G Superior Badge, Doctor Badge and an owner who kept on claiming it was the ideal car.

0-80% of the Throttle amounts to 0-20% of power and the last bit is where the rest of the powerband lies (more like nopowerband), it had a hard time keeping speed at 140 on a highway, but i will say the suspension is very pudgy and comfortable. Features wise it had the same stuff (sans Cruise Control, Auto Wipers) to my 9 year older car. Good fuel consumption though?

wayin red with bejj interiyal. Premio ciyanne agamac mcn.

On a serious note - How do you rate the noise insulation on the Premio vs the camry?

I fully understand the appeal for the Premio by the masses - it's a simple reliable appliance that gets you from A-B and it generally survives a bout of makabassery so for your doctor friend it is possibly the 'ideal' car.  One premio owner mentioned that the lighter coloured interior has a calming effect on him after a stressful day at work and for people like him the car should be just a trouble free appliance that gets him back home without any drama. Not for anyone with a smidgen of enthusiasm for cars though.

Well....don't forget that the Premio 260 is actually a car from 2007 based on a platform that is at least another 7 years older. So...what you get in terms of features and performance is what was there in the 2000s. In the mid 2010s Toyota stuck safety features to keep the car road legal in Japan but that was also not very good (as it was an after thought).

People in SL are crazy about the Premio/Allion just for this reason. It is old technology and is reminiscent of (or akin to) the Corollas and Carinas of the 80s and 90s they themselves or their parents bought and just ran with minimal maintenance.

By your description I am 100% certain you drove the 1.5 (so the G Superior badge is just a fake one). The 90% of 1.5L variant that were sold here seem to be fleet vehicles (rental cars, business cars, taxis). I recall seeing only a very few 1.5L variants owned by "families" and almost all of them by old people who are definitely retired. The 1.5L is perfect for sitting around in traffic (as most fleet vehicles would). The 1.8 and 2.0 variants are so so different and these are the ones that were popular with non-fleet buyers.

Irrespective of the variant, the Premio/Allion just stopped being popular in Japan around 2012ish as the car was outdated and it was obvious. Cars like the Axela (which were now large and felt premium as the Premio) sold much better. The joke that Toyota kept producing the Premio/Allion just because of the car exporters is actually true.

@fiat fan yep pearl white, car broke in Arugambay, the throttle sensor module got jammed for some reason and it refused to accelerate (would just idle).

@matroska tbh I like the Camry's insulation better, but I like the noises my engine gives when i give it the full beans so I'm not the best person to ask this. Also yeah, that car has not been maintained at all, we learnt there was no coolant in the radiator after we went to Arugambay. The mechanic we found also took one look at the throttle area and said "the owner of this car doesnt drive fast does he?", needless to say I gave it a good Italian tune (drive it like you stole it, much to its discomfort, and a weird belt noise that came from the front idk). Also lmao "calming" istg these guys will come up with the most absurd shit to justify a purchase.

@iRage bingo, it was a 1.5, honestly if you could afford the fuel, I'd 100% choose a Mark X or a newer Camry over this everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. I remember going full throttle for a good 10 -15 seconds only to be like "wtf do you mean I'm only doing 60!?!" when the Camry would be in the triple digits, I guess just difference in needs and wants

  16. Ferentino update:

Shape tire (for 25k a tire I aint complaining) but seems to lack grip for any spirited driving. Anything beyond a 75* turn at full throttle and the tires start squealing (dript noize) but thats also probably because of the lack of LSD. Unsure. I dont remember having this issue on 8 year old Continental ContiComforts

  17. I've had the odd "meka Premio eka tharang comport uth na, Allion tharang addanneth na" (To which I laugh since I have a friend with a 2017ish Premio who I soundly started pulling away and wasn't even in the same postal code from 120-190) It's fine, been a while since it has had some activity anyway This quote unironically slaps, might get Chamara Bus Sticker to make it and slap on the back, next to my Instagram Handle and Blood Type, I was thinking there was space near my Canibeat Sticker or do you think it would go nice against my Sinha-Le sticker? Hey hey don't generalize, some of us out trying to make an honest wage while working in Software (some people think working in IT/SE = Dropshipping/ Selling Karapincha on the Internet -_- )
  18. After owning the Camry for 2 years I just realized I have never been driven in the backseat. The only other person who has driven the car other than myself as well is my Mechanic

Once one of my colleagues wanted to test drive my CHR. That's the only instance I got to ride in the back seat. It was a nice experience.

  20. Did a Gearbox Rebuild at Nilwala Motors, basically new O-Rings and the whole shebangs, Gearbox wasnt super keen on going into Drive during Cold Mornings, internal gearbox fluid pressure dropping because the seals are toast. Works fine once you warm it up and the seals expand a bit. Regardless there goes 75k, saw a nice GX110 Mark 2 and a Toyota Crown for the same rebuild. Merry Christmas I guess?
  21. Gearbox seems to refuse to go into Drive without being warmed up now, it has gotten considerably worse in the past year, quick investigations suggest that it is time to rebuild the Gearbox, there's a place that offers 6 months warranty and has the repair kit for it. That's 75k (25k of it being the damn fluid) gone :D

@PerfMad haha! Yes that's where I got her fixed, took only a day :D, have to do a cold start to see if issue is fixed, they used the RAV4 Kit (2AZFE and Gearbox are the same)!
