  1. Does anybody know how to search for 2002-2006 Toyota Camry OEM Carpets on YahooAuctions? When I type Carpets nothing shows up which is impossible, if someone can search and send me the search link that would be great!

If its also not too much trouble also search for 2002-2006 Toyota Camry OEM Boot Carpet please.

    TIA

Hmm that is interesting I didn't think about that, looks like I'll have to find a guy who handles imports if I don't want to get rekt on import taxes

By mats...I assumed he meant the carpets...like the fluffy kind with cute little logos and stuff.

That...I EMS'd a set for my Mark X and customs didn't care too much....I just declared it as used and I hthey charged a few hundred rupees....only thing is...those things are heavy...so it simply was not worth the shipping cost which was like 8000yen at the time.

But... @MaleCortana will have to find another party to bid and take delivery of the Yahoo auction items anyway as 98% of the sellers on Yahoo Auc Japan will not deal with anyone outside of Japan (issues with receiving payments, shipping, etc...). So you will have to go to Buyee or some other proxy service.

Also...when they mail it...beg them to NOT put the actual invoice with the items and NOT to declare the actual value. They will strongly suggest they declare the actual value for insurance reasons. Stand your ground and say NO...take the risk of having less insurance.

Yep yep fluffy kind with the logos I usually use FromJapan as a proxy, but yeah I realized the cost of shipping because they are heavy, guess I'm waiting until one of my friends come from the middle east or japan :)

  2. There has to be somebody in SL where his job description is "I'll tighten that one screw inside your dashboard for you"

    1. iRage

      iRage

There is....but the full job description is "I''ll tighten that one screw inside your dashboard for you and break a few clips along the way".

Jokes aside...sometimes its not just the screws..with heat it is only natural for dashboard components to warp..so even if you tighten a screw it might not seat properly, or the plastic clips will be ever so slighlty loose that it just causes that annoying chili chili noise...

Hmm interesting day by day I'm coming to the realization that the car really is 17 years old and the odd rattle or two is to be expected. Not like any of them are constant rattles and happens when the car is going on perfectly smooth road anyway. I will look to getting other goodies for the car then :)

  3. God no, EVs in SL have a limited time span because the government really has no way of getting rid of batteries and if you want to travel a lot this will just give you range anxiety since there are outlets but you won't get it as common as a gas station. (especially if you want to travel to places where the roads are rough). As for SUVs you can comfortably get any Japanese big SUV for your budget (Land Cruisers, Monteros {think they are called Shoguns} over there, Nissan Patrols etc). Wranglers have become quite popular but I don't know anything about maintaining them.
  4. Something I noted is that car salesmen are really spineless fellows.

I remember confronting a car salesman on lying to me about 'having all records with him and can show' of a car and when I travelled 30km from my house to his car sale he pulled the 'I don't know where any of it is'. Man was almost in tears when I called him a "Kalakanni Moda Yaka", the car was in shitty condition as well, I can see how someone is desperate for a car would be like 'feck it' and be pressured into buying a car because of the journey.

They really should be a Customer Protection Services for Used Car Salesmen in this country.

If I were you, I'll be happy buying a 30 year old vehicle for a cheaper price reduced for fixing it up. If the  body is in good shape, I won't be  caring about " how the interior is vandalized and the paint is worn out."

Sourcing a complete interior trim, a good paintjob and with some preferable tweaks will be making the vehicles stunning at a far less price.

Example A Pajero MK1 with pending works costs 2.3 - 2.8 Million. And a 'good condition' one is being priced from 3.5 - 4+ Millions. Even if it is In "Mint like Condition" you can still be lead to some work afterwards.

In my opinion reconditioned parts sourced from abroad are way better than lankan ones. You could resell the older parts for cheaper prices.

    3. iRage

      iRage

@Hashif Riyas...yes...but the point is....these guys lie to you to trvel all the way to look at the car with the hopes that the person travelling will buy the car because they travelled all the way there. Then on top of that...they just do some fake repairs to make it shiny....and 99% of the people just fall for it. Even if one does not care what the condition is and willing to put the time, effort and oney in to fixing it up...it does not change the fact that these people lie and cover up cars and then insist on asking for high prices (especially for popular ""market" cars....because they know that there will be some ignorant guy out there who will pay it). So even a clunker for restoration costs way too much than what it is worth...
and still..you do get your time wasted.

True... Last month, my dad was looking for a 2006 Nissan SK82V DX advertised in ryswn.

The seller was friendly over the phone and told tales like '" Mage Wahane Cataloy gram siyyak thyanawanam Wahane nikan dennam. And all ". and called us repeatedly requesting to have a look at his vehicle and pay an advance. Finally when we went out there ( 150+ Km Ride) . At the first look itself we knew the van was used for hiring purposes and has been vandalized fully. ,Interior, Exterior, and the body have had minor damages and repaired improperly, even the engine sounded bad. The guy didn't talk the way he did over the phone. And was demanding 3.5 Million for that shotload, and was firm in 3.45 after negotiating. (We would have taken it if it was around 3.2 Million reduced for fixing it up) We assume that he was more of a scammer waiting to grab an advance and dissappear... We had to vehicleHunt for weeks.

But, finally we found a 2007 SK82V VX (Highest Grade) for 3.4 Million.( Vehicles similar were advertised for 4 Million+) We had only minor mechanical issues which costed around 30K+ and 2 days and the engine sounds good, interior is okayish, paint is slightly faded but a detailing job would cover it up.

Had to suffer a bit. But it's worthwhile. Now we could spend 1-200K for restoring it like new (if we want to) and still profit if we decide to sell.

If car sellers are genuinely aware of their vehicles condition and price fairly.  There would be an awesome marketplace out there.

Even we are limited with time. But we know how awesome it is to build.

  5. It might be on the hook, but looks like the hook might have been a bit dislodged (pulled from the base body a bit), see if you can hammer it down a bit, gap should go away?
  6. The FIA stole my boi Max's win and I stand by it. The rules around Turn 4 was that you can cut the corner but you can't cut the corner if you getting an advantage which means you can't overtake which is stupid since if you cut the corner you reduce your lap time and Hamilton was basically on that corner 24/7
  7. Fun fact about Sabine, when she was driving the Jaguar S Type Diesel around the 'burg the camera crew had a hard time keeping up with her in a Jaguar S Type R with another german race car driver at the helm. Truly an icon.
  8. You can hand over old numberplates (even the broken parts) and get new plates from the RMV I think it costs around 3000
  9. Lmao I just realized this and nope, I guess unless the cop is standing right next to the car, they too wouldn't know. But in all reality these cars as electric have a expiry date on them since nobody can import batteries or the batteries themselves cost as much as the car
  10. Has anybody tried the Ferentino tire brand? I'm all for supporting a local industry but tires are not something I want to f*** around with. How is grip and aquaplaning? Also can't seem to find the tires anywhere -_- my continentals only have a few thousand kms in them :)

hmmm good question.. Saw someone has posted good comments. If im not mistaken, he compared it with hangkook or gt radial. And was saying it has very less road noise and no sacrifice in level of comfort either.

    2. MaleCortana

      MaleCortana

Yes I also saw good comments about road noise and comfort, but real question is grip and rain performance, too much inertia in my land boat  😢

hmmm.. It should be good if the tyres are having the same quality as exporting ones.

  11. Apparently it is a drivetrain transplant from a Nissan March, ngl when I took a peak under a Nissan Leaf "Engine Bay" the main engine unit looked like an actual engine, a couple of modified engine mount points and a petrol tank should be able to sort stuff out
  12. I don't think its silly, I recently met the Starlet owner and explained to him all the issues with it and asked him to get it checked. He's not too worried since his 4EFTE swapping it. And I'm genuinely happy for the car without it being tossed around open book or changing hands. I think this quote summarized what I felt about the car: "I still want it to eat, just not at my table"
  13. Took someone for a ride and the person claimed his Premio was far comfier than my car (Camry), while I don't really want to compare which one of us can fall asleep faster in the car, this inevitable question popped in my head, where does the Allion and the Premio fit in, in Toyota's lineup in Sri Lanka?

I can name a bit of the hierarchy, I'm assuming Pixis < Vitz < Corolla < Yaris/Belta/Vios (?, or are these worse off than the Corolla?) < Camry < Premio/Allion (?, smaller engines suggest the other way around) < Mark series < Crown ? I know some of these cars are not exactly all from the same time but where do you agree with this lineup?

@matroska what I have an Axela bro. Well, I hate to accept relatively I found Premio better in terms of comfort. 😕 I guess its partly due to my stiffer suspension and my seats.

I guess along with many other factors, Seats contribute a lot for comfort. My seats are leather, they do not hug you. I hate my driving seat. May be its just me, I have found the seats on most Toyotas super nice. Not the high end autos. e.g. Prius, CHR even the seats on my GP1 was good.

When it comes to seats its something relative as well, it would depend how big you are etc.

As you said Premio is a good car with good level of comfort and 'relatively' one may find comfortable. Not 'THE' most comfortable car ever as the crowds claim.🙂

    3. iRage

      iRage

@matroska...you do realize that 99% of the Premio crowd will be upgrading from something like Doctor Sunnies, E100 Corollas, Starlets, Vitzies, etc..and at most Carina/Corona type of stuff right ? So their basefor comparison and experience/exposure in the first place is rather limited/narrow. Only a very number of Audi, BMW, Merc owning permit holders would actually get rid of their Euro and go for a Premio (most will either horizontally or vertically upgrade their Euro..partly for badge value but also they subconsiously would relaise comfort is not just a soft ride).

Then after they buy the car, it is it all about finding justification to defend their purchase (after all they definitely are putting down a large portion of their income for the car and for most is the most vlauable thing they own and will ever own). There is also a bit of the whole "Emperor's new clothes" phenomena going on as well. If they spend so much money buying it..and so many of the people they see as successful in life are having it..that means it HAS to be good and most comfortable right ? How can it not be ?

Then again...Comfort is such a relative term. Heck...I find the E100 Corolla more comfortable in most aspects than a Civic of the same generation...but find the B13 Sunny (non diesel) a lot more comfortable than anything else in its class for a city driven family sedan.

When I keyed out this status never did I think I'll get such strong opinions about the Premio from the AL members 😛

  14. Also glad to say @iRage, the rattles have gone from inside the dash and on the windows 😛, but then again one would expect that when they spend close to 150k on the suspension 😔. Atleast I saved up on fuel lol since the car was literally parked for a month.
  15. Finally got back the car after a month 😢 Took her to a wheel alignment, here's a picture of her while she was at the mechanics
  16. Alright there are literally no updates since I still didn't get the car lol (its been three weeks ), should be getting it by Tuesday. But decided to not rebuild a new radiator since the core was actually good for another 2 years ish, so just redid the head. Caliper pins are to be changed. Shocks and Shock Mounts changed. The bolts from all four engine mounts are missing? (wtf moment) anyway swapping the engine mounts so adding the bolts is easy but still unexpected. Links changed Brake Fluid changed Engine Oil (Toyota 10W30) + Transmission Fluid Changed All bushings done on the arms Should take the car for an alignment afterwards, car is absolutely dusty
  17. Sarmad, so your car broke and you fixed it, no worries now. (If you buy an Aqua chances are its been tampered with, the number of odo-rollbacks and 'atawapu' cars in the market is too damn high and the markup you pay is not worth it at all. Popular Sinhala proverb: "The Devil you know is better than the Angel you don't" <- Personal Experience 😢
  18. Unsure what price to sell a car? :(

How much would an Audi A8 (Hybrid) 2013, with 48k kms, 1st owner sell for? Car is obviously in pristine condition. Any guesses on the ballpark? What might make the price increase or not?

bruh @iRage unfortunately no the car isn't upbadged 😛

No the thing is some people had sold for 110, others have sold for 170. Don't want to look back on this and think "damn should've priced higher"

    3. iRage

      iRage

For that...you will have to check what each car has and see what the condition of each is...so if the range is 110-170...do an educated guess as to where your car would stand depending on the specs available in the local market and the condition it is in.

lol im pretty sure ur going to end up with no cars but a tuk may be :D

  20. 1000km with me update (it's only been a month since I bought it as well hehehehe) going to put the car in for some repairs, the following will be done. Changing all Engine Mounts Building new Aluminum Radiator Tank (current one has a leak and isn't done really well) Changing all four shocks Changing all CVs, Ball Joints, Rack Ends on the front Changing all the bushings on the suspensions (front and rear, lower arm bushings etc) Basically most of the suspension will be replaced, the car became incredibly bouncing and jerky a couple of 100kms into using it because the road down Thalawathugoda is utter crap and full of deathtrap potholes. Thankfully won't be making that trip anymore. There is a faint rattle as if a screw is loose in its socket when I go over unpaved roads that I think is coming from inside the dashboard. I'm sure changing the suspension will help but is there an individual who will fix that rattle for me? I know its unrealistic to have a 17 year old car void of all rattles and run like brand new, but I want to get it as close as I can be also I think I hear a slight rattle in the windows as well. Might be the inner beading that has deteriorated a bit. If anyone could suggest someone to check that out as well? (I'm sure after reading this you have diagnosed me with crazy but I like driving the car without the radio sometimes listening to the hum of the engine , the rattles really piss me off then)
  21. Went to get the car transferred today, had to pay a luxury tax that hasn't been paid in a while -_- RMV refused to transfer it until it was settled. :( That's a sudden 30k I never imagined spending 😢

      Quiet

Got my vehicle transferred under my name finally on Monday. You need to make an appointment and if you want to go in you need the original txt message sent by RMV or the stupid security guy wont let you in.

Other than that is was a smooth process where i went in at 11.30 and came back and collected the CR sharp @ 2.0 Also no social distancing etc etc. so you need to be double masked/with gloves etc.

      Mine was a KL number

    3. PreseaLover

      PreseaLover

Guys if all the luxury tax has been paid, still during the transfer does RMV ask for the luxury tax papers?

    4. PerfMad

      PerfMad

Someone bought a new car eh ;) fedup with the carb presea ?

  22. The Camry bro, also went there today, one day service is only offered to cars above KA-XXXX numbers anymore, so my car being a JK number wasn't given one day service. Went there with your normal transfer papers, revenue license etc, no objection letter from company (this has to be with the companies letter head), the car has to have an additional letter regarding the board of directors (whether they've changed and all that) with all the directors (atleast in my case) signing off the sale of the car additionally had a government letter looking thing where it mentions how the company is a registered business and blah blah. That's about it.
  23. I have yet to see a car with a 300k+ mileage for sale in Sri Lanka. Almost all the cars do 100k+ hit 200k and then reverse quite a bit it seems. :) Unless there's some weird reasoning, I'm going to safely assume a 20 year old car is close to 250k-300k.

  24. If lease is settled then there is a letter from the leasing company that should state that the lease is settled. If it's just one director in the company then he actually does have sole authority to sell the car, but there are some additional documents required that needs signing. ie: A Letter of No Objection with a company header etc.
