  1. Huge thanks for the insight on the CRV, RAV4, and Harrier! It's super helpful. Being in a bit of a pickle deciding was my situation, but clarity was provided by your explanation. Your effort to share your knowledge is greatly appreciated. I recently took the car in for a service, the rear differential was checked, and the oil was changed; everything seemed okay. However, the suspensions need to be checked and the rear tires are not in great condition may be thats the reason for the noise. The new CRV 1.5 has a CVT, so I guess that might be why the engine feels like it's being worked hard.
  2. I own a 2008 CRV EX-L RE4, which gets around 6-7 kmpl in the city and 8-11 kmpl on the highway/ long drive when driven at 2k-3k rpm. One of the main drawbacks is the noticeable road noise and a slightly stiff ride. However, considering it's an SUV, it handles quite well. I'm thinking about switching to a RAV4 or a Harrier240 (2008-2013). Is it worth making the switch? Also, do the newer CRV models have the same issues, and how's their handling? PS-Not a big fan of hybrid harrier
  3. Again and again I agree with most of the points and I do not doubt what you guys say about the problems with makabass, vehicles performance specially the subaru ! Im sorry but my anxiety kicks in (lot of WHAT IF's) I 100% understand the risk of getting into a bad trade and ending up with a metal crap and how the overlooked vehicles are ages better and maintained well than the typical toyotas, yet its is harder for me to get out of the typical "Toyota" mindset (exception swift ) Its not in the top of the list ! first step drive one and look for hatchbacks so found 4-5 2nd gen 1.3 vitz and I understand the risk of selecting a toyota but I have my goals set ! May be next vehicle I can move to a sedan or an SUV but at this point I will try to find a hatchback Thank you guys ! I’ve learned a lot about cars, I really appreciate the inputs, opinions and advice ! PS - BTW I drove a Nissan TIDA for an year in the dubai back in 2012 also test drove a maxima (7th gen), loved those cars !
  4. Thats one good post ! I appreciate the input ! I take back the "Lack of agent network " I dont doubt subarus ability to corner and the flat four performance I live in the hills I do not travel to colombo by vehicle, lets say if I get a flat4 as you said the pros are in colombo, I dont want to travel to colombo for a regular service or to search for a part (these are machines with a lot of moving parts again I have to factor in repairs) Ive been to garages for the every for a simple repair if its a forester nope dont wanna think about it ! then the cost of spares / repairs / services I don't want to get into this ! Again and again I am going for the vitz mainly its a simple car, spares are available with in kandy through local spare parts mudalailis even if I want an engine its in kandy, I dont have to search for a pro cuz most of the garages knows whats inside a vitz a simpletons 4 pot ! This is going to be my first car and as others pointed out I am not going to hit apexes, attack corners nor stick to racing lines ! Again mazdas, subarus are good cars no doubt ages ahead of crappy over priced toyotas yet at the end of the day I want a normal car with the keyword "convenience" So NO to subarus ! Thanks you for the input @Devinda_Z
  5. The turbo charged Forester XT is a superb vehicle but my concern is SL, we do not have proper agent nor the spare parts mudalalis dont have any parts for it, As I said in earlier posts I have to factor in repairs, accidents, It is one of the fine vehicle for the winding roads ! 141 is the last choice not the first my options are set vitz 1.3 if I cant find one then TANK and then the swift
  6. Not my first choice ! So I wont select 141 unless the first 3 options fall down, I need to find some threads or ask some people about swifts ground clearance issues
  7. Guys I really appreciate your inputs I learned a lot ! Thank you ALL ! Anyway I understand Forester XT & Harrier are great vehicles specially the subaru ! but it doesn't make sense for me to own either of these 1. Harrier is expensive out of my budget 2. Forester is not a mass marketed model as @iRage said these cars are owned by motorheads God help me if any repairs or accidents happen I cannot spend bolt load to fix things nor search for parts, Sorry this is SriLanka I have to think about repairs and spare parts ! I am not looking for GT class cornering nor RR comfort ! I understand the major point any vehicle other than k-cars would be an upgrade I want to select a proper one I am ready to make sacrifices ie, A car is not spacious nor the boot space isn't enough ! I am still sticking to 1 Vitz 1.3 (2010 - 2016) 2 May be tank turbo (I liked the 1.0 NA but after reading threads im switching to 1KR-VET the turbo variant ) 3 I still love the swift ! RS mild Hybrid 4 pot 90hp is more than enough ! (BUT damn suzuki at least 130mm I would have chosen you but 120mm really ??? ) This is I will search for a vitz as others said its rare ! and finding one with good maintenance record is a challenge, If that did not work out then will decide between tank and swift BTW in the back of my mind I have the idea for a (RUSH RAV4 141 or 141 axio) I will get to this idea if all of the above 3 fails ! sacrificing compactness ! (Assuming RUSH RAV4 141 corolla does 8 kmpl city and 10-12 outstation) BTW spoke to a guy who owns a Tank and may be go for a test ride PS- Love the every wagon but Its time for an upgrade ! UPDATE - Also worried about the import situation, theres was a thread saying they gonna stop imports for 1 year (Corona WHY you do this ? )
  8. I agree with you, Its practical and I have done moving things using the van when needed ! its a lot practical than a car ! I use the auto side step a lot ! it is spacious ! I get your point on driving another wagon ! I will do that
  9. OMG the horror stories on 1KR-FE vibration issues Ive ditched the idea of 1L toyota ! Are suzuki 1L, honda 1L engines fall into the same category or its only toyota ? my new choices MUST be 4 pots 1. Preface-lift vitz 1.3 2. Second gen vitz 1.3 (bola vitz)
  10. Harriers are expensive, I don't think they fit my budget ! even a 2006-2007 model ! The issue is even 30kmph coroners are unbearable let alone 40 ! But I agree its a decent vehicle for driving around kandy ! but for winding roads I am not sure ! What car do you own ? @iRage Again I like the idea of Terios/Rush ! Im going to search the forums for old posts
  11. Thank you for the reply Ultra racing are they based in Malaysia ? I just wanna corner at 40-50 kmph not planning on attacking apexes and racing lines My question is even in 40kmph is there lot of body roll ?
  12. I did not know that ! GR and GRMN are two different vehicles ! No interest in them I was just bumping ideas Ive stopped looking for the new vitz, my idea is not pre face lift 2016 vitz I will try to find a 1.3 if I cant get it I am settling down for a 1.0 This one
  13. Yeap that sounds good I will testdrive and may be go for a vitz 1.0 I thought vitz only came 1.0 and 1.6 GRMN they do have vitz 1.3 isnt it ! https://www.tc-v.com/used_car/toyota/vitz/?fid=2017&sds=1300 Any guess on how much it would cost to bring down a 1.3 UPDATE - LOL obviously not now only when SL opens up imports or I saw some 2015 1.3 on i*man ! may be go for a used one !
  14. @matrosk frequent travel on narrow roads + pot holes @Supra_Natural Drove a 2007 mazda 3 I love them mazdas, even though its a great car unfortunately I am sticking with the mainstream crappy models for resell value safety & spare parts even for every I faced a oil burning trouble and fixing it was a difficult issue had to go to garage and wait all day @iRage What model year vitz are you talking about ? cuz RS versions are only available for older models isnt it current one has a GRMN trim I like the Daihatsu Terios idea ! if its FWD I am okay with it every's and most RWD vans lack rear wheel traction ! BTW @GK_007 I agree on your point ! it is subjective, I should plan on renting couple of these cars and driving to nuwara eliya If I arrange my list my priority is 1. Kandy Nuwara eliya travel 2. Rear passenger comfort (wife and kid goes from right to left in every if I take a corner at 40 kmph, I have slow down to 20kmph for corners ) 3. I might compromise on ground clearance but not on the compact Swift, Passo, Tank & Terios BTW for me 40kmph cornor is more than enough Im not a street racer ! I guess the issue is moving from Every I might feel all of the above cars has less body roll I am trying to pick yalls brains to get to better decision ! Does UK model swift has enough ground clearance ? without the body kit ?
