Watched the recent carwow video where they redline and run 3 cars without oil.
The Ford Mondeo lasts 20 seconds before engine seizure
The Peugeot 206 lasts 47 seconds
The Honda city lasts a mind blowing 6 minutes and 22 seconds
We all know Japanese cars are reliable and can take a beating/abuse better than the Europeans which adhere to strict maintenance and tolerances. I'd expect it to last twice as longer than a European under abuse. But, lasting 8 times longer than a similar European.. Eight. Peugeot was in the steel game since 1810 (210 years ago) way before Soichiro Honda's grandad himself was born. It's feasible that Honda can surpass Peugeot using good old Japanese techniques and assembly line system.
But 8 times more? How? Do they use vibranium sleeves, diamond piston rings and carbon fibre pistons?
Could it be a possibility that the Honda engine's internals were worn out so bad that it was leaking compression and the metals weren't touching each other very closely?
Or is the video staged?

@varotone maybe the oil pressure switch went bust a long time back. Also I read somewhere that Honda sets up their engine to simulate a 30 degree incline with 5 passengers and let's them run for a month and has never had an engine fail. Now I don't know if this is true or not, but still it begs the question, are these jap engines really more solid than euros? Euro car service intervals are longer than japs although they can't take abuse like the japs.
@speed8 probably anyone who has a fetish to watch good things fall to their doom. Not me lol
