I wanted to replace the front shock absorbers as they seem to be nearing the end of their life. But then mechanic told me about places that rebuild/recondition them.
Anyone here who has done that? Is it a case of you get what you pay for? Or is it a complete waste of time and money?

My friends used to refurbish them....they did not last long. A lot depends on the craftmanship, and the parts used to refurbish. Sadly, the joints my friends tried probably didn't have either one at an acceptable standard. If they are oil shocks, they stand a better chance than gas ones.
If you are doing a complete disassembly and rebuilding it then it really doesn't matter what the condition of the shock absorber is. The fact that most places do not even attempt to build it if it is worn out too much means they do not do a complete rebuild but replace a few seals and replace the fluid. Over here rebuilding shocks are not even considered anymore because rebuilding it to the point where it passes shaken inspection costs more than actually buying new shocks. -
@AVANTEĀ did you get your shock absorbers repaired?
Iām in the same situation.

@Gummybr Ferentinos are quite good, I put them on my car from Continentals and I still get comments on how the car feels like a cloud (although that may be also because I spent a shit ton on rebuilding the suspension when I got the car)
-
@MaleCortanaĀ wouldn't it be a bit of a concern if the tires are cloudy smooth/soft ? Ā
I would most likely say it is due to the rebuilding of the suspension. When all those bushings and stuff gets replaced, you lose a lot of vibrations and noises as the new bushes would absorb them a lot better than the old hard and brittle ones.Ā -
@iRage that is possible yes, I'm not complaining
