  1. Cerato is the better car compared to the tiida by miles. @Crosswind owned one. He can tell you proper details. But first, you should ask yourself, what are your priorities? Tiida suits better for those who want cheap maintenance, cheap parts, who care only about fuel economy and 2nd market. The Cerato is a quick car, well built, agent maintenance can cost a bit but if you enjoy the car, it's worth it. It looks so awesome compared to the depressed Tiida.
  2. Need advice:

If I'm selling an engine (small motorbike engine) to be exact on ebay. Can I ship it abroad without running into trouble with any of the officials? Will it be a pain?

  3. So what I can conclude from all this is, you just can't go wrong with any of the top brands. BMW used repackaged Castrol (now Shell) Peugeot/Citroen goes with Total Mercedes Benz stands with Mobil GM also go with ExxonMobil brands. Also I got another question, since W rating doesn't matter in lanka, I won't be facing any issue in going from 10W-40 to something like 5W-40 right?
  4. Of course, we can always do a bit of altering to suit our taste buds and health. Speaking of Gordon ramsey, the most favourite recipe I follow from him is the simple breakfast, no oil scrambled eggs, sautéed mushroom and tomatoes on the side, served with brown bread (although we don't have brown bread here sadly). I got some Zucchini recently, which is a hard find in this area. Aiming to make my own variation of Ratatouille.
  5. Might I suggest serving your pork/steak/turkey/chicken with some tobacco onions and sautéed mushroom/Brocolli on the side? Just a hint of veggies to balance things out, damn good stuff. On the topic of stews @Kavvz, how about trying the Nigerian method as well:
  6. True true. People need to be informed on early oil changes, they're just a waste of money. It's okay if the oil is more than an year old, but if not it's just pointless. Why spend extra for semi-synthetic when you change it at 5k like mineral oil right? Agreed. So LM vs Mobil is a topic of personal preference. I use Mobil for both car and motorbikes and it's just one of those knock on wood brands you just can't go wrong with. Wow that escort must have been fun.😅 There's another topic on how some people say not to clean the engine too much (tune up) and get rid of all the carbon deposits as some of it is needed for the valves to seal a bit more appropriately. Another guy said his diesel golf smoked to death after adding flush and additives. Horror stories are out there. I guess the verdict is don't use flushes for really old engines? Better to just dismantle and clean or maybe rebuild/replace. On a serious note, what say you about flushing with diesel? There are people who will vouch for diesel as well as say No. It seems to be another experience/preference based debate but there are surely some solid facts right?
  7. Hi guys, hope you're all doing well. I've been having doubts about engine oils in the lankan context and have been doing alot of reading recently. There are still somethings I want to learn more about and need clarification on. 1) Modern engine oils can go longer than ever, so why are people still changing at the ancient 5000km mark? My service records state that the next oil change should happen at 5k (Mobil Semi-Synthetic 10W40) and I have seen many people with modern cars do the same. 2) Is it true that SAE 40/50 rated oils are better for higher mileage engines to secure the loose gaps/tolerances? 3) Liqui Moly vs Mobil. Who truly is the pioneer in modern oil tech? Pricey stuff but who has the edge? I have read alot of cases in forums where they swear Mobil oils are special and different from other brands in their sludge clearing properties. I have also seen people spitting at Liqui Moly saying "eww". 4) Also, a small side topic. Engine flushing: Diesel vs purpose engineered flushes. People say flushes/additives can hurt the oil pump on old engines and some swear by diesel. But there are also people saying diesels leave stains behind. What do you guys think? Would like to hear your opinions on these.
  8. Cold climate these days, most probably the battery? Get a battery health report at a battery/Tyre shop.
  9. Yeah Avanza would be adequate. Noah's are nice like you say and ofc, pricing is ridiculous for almost any jap vehicle in srilanka these days sadly.
  10. Changing from auto to manual is easier than changing from manual to auto. If you got cash to spare, it can be done at the right place. But why change? Why not just sell it and go for a Manual March? In today's market small hatchbacks like Marchs are more valued in auto form. Even though petrol consumption is stupid for automatic Swifts and March's relative to other cars, people still love them. You can save alot of hassle (and maybe cash) by just selling and going for a Manual.
  11. Curfew has been lifted in my area. I and the pugger can finally come out of our caves. Its going to be serviced tomorrow.

Now the issue is, I found the necessary brand and viscosity fluids, but I can't find the recommended Bosch filter. Courier from Colombo isn't happening also. I don't wanna delay the oil change. Shall I go with a genuine VIC filter? They are good enough right? Atleast I'm not looking at any Sakura stuff.

  12. Is there really a difference between sri (ශ්‍රී) and dash (-) numbers?

  13. I've got nothing to add in terms of fuel for discussion. But ironically, did you know that the first Porsche was infact, an electric car? Made in 1898, by Ferdinand Porsche himself, named the Porsche P1. It used a 3hp electric motor, had a range of 79km and a top speed of 35kmh

    Daihatsu Copen

Not a fan of the Cero? Once in a while a K number car might come up. Saw a honda beat yesterday, quite a nice thing albeit rare and old now. You can't go wrong with both the copen or S660. I'd say wait a bit, until this stupid inflation trend comes down or a rare car pops up.
  15. OK since you insist @fiat fan bro Name: Ridhwan Age: 19 Location : Mawanella Simple fellow, doing random things. Grateful and enjoying the smaller and simpler things in life, nostalgic, old school also, no show off/loud partying vibes here lol. Into old euro cars, aquascaping, cooking, fitness related stuff, DIY, general trivia and also motorcycles as most of you know.
  16. It takes a minimum of 12 seconds for the oil to fully circulate and touch every part of the engine that needs lubrication in a modern engine. Even though it is said new cars dont need warming up for minutes, I still follow the 1 minute warm up habit to be in the safe side and don't push it until it's warmed up. But if you were in a hurry and can't even wait a minute, remember that 12 seconds is the bare minimum.
  17. I'm restoring a 1985 Honda Hawk CB250T.

It's undergoing engine rebuild and I'm unable to find brand new pistons for it, but I found new Piston rings, seals, gaskets.

Pistons could be ordered from abroad but they are chinese and expensive. Lol

What the previous owner has done is polished the pistons and installed new rings. Which isn't a long term solution.

Now I'm being advised by some people to find pistons from some other model that have the same dimension, take it to a lathe, and get the top part/crown carved to accommodate the 3 valves (Suzuki Gn125 pistons fit but the head is made for 2 valves). My mech said he has never tried that because he thinks it's impossible. I need insight guys.

    Is this feasible?

Actually keep the tire on then, at least till your Dad gets used to riding a bike again...

Its a wider (more control) and if it slows down the bike then great! (Assuming the bike is for your Dad right? Well then, not a bad option!!) Not saying your Dad is a bad rider but its probably been a while that he's been on a bike and even though he might think he wouldn't need to re-learn any of his lost skills the truth us he will probably have a bit of a learning curve!

      ?

That's a good way of looking at things! Impressive :D

Last time he rode was nearly 2 years ago, and well he isn't the luckiest rider tbh but can manage. This bike is supposed to be like a weekend toy for him for short stints and backroads. I myself am trying to stop 2 wheelers and shift to cars itself for good as riding on a daily basis has scared me good.

With outstation narrow roads and sometimes coupled with traffic and all, it's almost a dire necessity to have a bike. Can't take your car everywhere so easily and quickly.

Absolutely! Riding on a daily basis is a bit hairy but there's nothing like being on a bike for the sense of freedom it gives!

  18. It's a car with 4 wheels. That's the idea. What do you want to know?
  19. Also, stick to the Familia FB group. Some guys put up parts for sale there. BJ5P parts shouldn't be hard to find, it's the BF cars body parts that are starting to get uncommon.
  20. Check your power steering fluid quality and levels. When was it changed? Also check the steering pump. It should be either of these two.
  21. This is good to know. I guessed the market would come crashing down at some point soon enough. Good luck to those shady sale bayyas.
