  1. Vitara might be a better option (looks good, finishing wise). At least the lineage has been there for a umpteen no of years and the reviews are not bad at all. Hyundai's have a bad reputation for name plates disappearing quickly
  2. My experience with Exide has been pretty good. I think now the batteries get a 4 year warranty, and for the Monty i actually got 1 battery replaced under warranty. Amaron is another option. But if you insist Yuasa will be a good choice. Am not sure whether Panasonic is manufactured in Japan anymore. Lucas and Exide both are the same and manufactured by the same factory at Rathmalana.
  3. yes the gift permit scheme stopped many years back. you can always get a reverse TT done from your relative (after the LC bills retire) putting an invoice as consultancy services provided
  4. First check the mileage your filter can handle. If its genuine Nissan rule of thumb should be 10K. Sighting the operating mechanism of e-power , i also don't see why you shouldn't adhere to a 10K cycle.
  5. OK i will agree with one point. The prices have now hit rock bottom, where some owners are willing to let go of their specimens after taking a hit of almost 5mn just within 3+ years. So, if you are looking at an SUV which is comfortable , decent drive this vehicle is good. Its' silent, spacious, got a good combination of creature comforts at that price point. But mind you, with that useless CVT , acceleration is sometimes a joke , where even trishaws overtake you. But once you get in to higher gears , it pulls. Anyway you should know that the car is underpowered to that body even with the electric assist. Your problems will be with the gearbox , where one fine day she will stop running or start giving you a vry bad sound. I have spoken to a few parties who claim to repair the EV motor and solenoid with a repair kit (below 200K now, but limited mileage warranty), but pls keep in mind Nissan doesnt recommend this. Nissan has actually introduced a replacement gearbox with the code 3SZ, which i think the agent still quotes 1mn + to replace for grey imports. If you can source a 3sZ from 3rd party from Japan, way to go. Also, there will be a problem in the brake pump. But nothing you cant fix below a 100k. They talk about an inverter problem i am yet to see it. You buy it at 5mn , even add 1/2 mn on the repairs , you might have a decent relatively newer ride. But you should know that the hybrid battery situation will anyway hit you like a train. The rate Xtrail is going , am sure battery replacement wont be cheap either. Also, you will be struck with a car you cannot sell fast, even car sales guys will shun from you, BUt, i prsonally know 4 Xtrail hybrids used by my friends , one is maintained decently with 15K interval transmission oil changes , frequent scanning at A*W with periodic maintenance , and decent driving on road. Others , one had a gear box repair ( 200K) and thee other with a brakepump repair (< 100k). All these cars still are the daily riders So, your call - i wouldnt exactly call it a lemon, but it anyways isnt an orange to run behind
  6. Hi Guys, Doing some internet research on genuine parts and came across the following 2 websites which stock genuine OEM parts in Dubai and another country? Just wondering if anyone has experience bringing to Sri lanka ? a) Partsouq.com b) Amayama.com Actually its' re: a pair of shocks where these guys are giving it at 50% of the price of local agent.
  7. Dear iRage - Many many thanks for your input - Cheers
  8. Hi Guys - The agent indicated that both my front shocks have to be replaced, and quoting 100K , which i presume is quite outrageous. KYB from agents is available at 20K , but a contact wanted me to look at ARB Oldman EMU , or Bilstein which would be more reliable, than the KYBs. Any advice ? Will KYB not be the optimal choice for Montero?
  9. Its based on the Isuzu Panther, an MUV we used to have in Sri Lanka , sometime back. Can remember a lot of these were used as govt vehicles ( Those days SML was govt owned). Being bulit by Isuzu , even the Tavera may have a reliable engine , but i can remember the old Panthers suffering from rust. Also, engine rattle is a bit annoying and since its based on a pick up platform , wasn't very comfy. Also, i think the original wheel sizes were quite small, which kind of gave the car an unusual look. I guess you would not have a problem sourcing the engine parts , but body & other interior trims am not so sure how easy would it be to source unless you can get someone to pick it from India (i think the panther had a lot of common parts with Fargo/ WFR and the Isuzu old KB pick up. But am not sure whether this is teh case with the Neo 2. Someone should correct me but am under the impression that now Magcity is the agent, and even they have discontinued selling the brand. Might be a reliable workhorse, Let's see what the experts have to say.
  10. Gents, i was able to get a GLS full rear wheel cover and garnish of a damaged Pajero (V98) from Japan and want to fit it to my 2014 GLX Montero. Can anyone recommend me a good mechanic to do the replacement with painting. Thanks S
  11. Am not an expert in this but , my brief internet search tells me that L048 belongs to a 2.3 TD Pajero / Shogun. Let's see what the experts have to say

    Good Tyre Brand....!

havent heard of the brand what you have quoted. Could be chinese CE#T hasnt given me a good experience. I felt the vibration were more when i used it in my Ford , so had to change. GT might be slightly better and at a dearer price. Recently Dunlop prices were good. Also look at a brand called Petlas, which is a Turkey tire at a good price. Pirelli sometimes has good promo prices. Be careful of abnormally cheap good tyre brands as some parties tend to sell soon to expire tires
  13. If you are on a hurry perhaps the FB group for Pajeros in SL might provide you a faster response. From my limited knowledge , unless SWB, you didnt get many low roof PS MK1s in SL. Many are body converted. You can insert the full VIN to this website and get the full parts manual which may explain your question https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/genuine/locate?c=Mitsubishi
  14. Yes u get quite the line up of Protons as Taxis in KL. I saw a lot of Gen2 redcabs (CNG powered) where i think the drivers converted from the old SAGAs. Even i've heard that the Gen 2 is quite a reliable car in KL. Sadly, the company is now only rebadging Hondas for state employees.
  15. A33's , i have a faint recollection of a few bad experiences in the forum. But mind you that could be due to bad maintenance by a previous user. However, A33s can be thirsty as against Toyota's whihc is inevitable. Pls browse and see - AE 110s are reliable work horses. The corolla nameplate always demands a premium , but if possible look at Sprinter , Carina or Coronas of the same vintage. Its basically the same car, and shares a lot of parts with Corolla. Also you can look at the elephant back wagons / a decent L-touring which may be slightly discounted to the sedan.
  16. That's sad- I thought Jimney was a tough little nut
  17. Didn't register when you intially said splash but i can remeber a few examples rebadged in SL as Maruti Ritz. If it was done by Maruti then agent (A*W) should be able to help you with parts. But the car is not common hence, body panels if you need recon you may struggle a bit. Experts here should be able to give you a technical review on the car.
  18. Leasing still hovers around 14% at Sampath Bank until very recently, just drop a call to the hotline and then negotiate with a branch , which may give you a slightly dearer rate. Leasing rates unregistered was 2,200/- & regd was 2,700/- sometime back. Both schemes have pros & cons Lease - Fixed premium to pay (fixed interest rates), title is held by the bank, it is specified in the book and not very flexible to sell off fast, as you have to settle the lease, and insurance the Bank might force you to do on their own. Loan - Fklexible , however there is possibility that a personal loan is 1-2% higher than leasing and your interest rate is market pegged. Can go up / down. Book is clean and you can dispose the car anytime , as the security is your personal gurantee. Generally leases might be a bit more easy to obtain than personal loans for people who dont have fixed income streams.
  19. Well - For starters Vios is a sedan and IST is a hatch. Vios is Thailand / Indonesia built (like the Avanza) vs IST was Japanese made. Both cars are plenty used in SL , and both lines if i am not mistaken have been discontinued. Vios now goes at Ativa i think and am not sure which replaced IST. Personal experience , i preferred the IST to the Vios despite the space handicap. But mind you IST was 1.3 ( there were a few 1.5s) whilst Vios is 1.5. I can remember the i.3 IST did better fuel vs the Vios, and creature comforts IST was much better. In fact in the West the IST was sold as one of the iconic "Scion" brand name dubbed "Urban cruiser". The last IST model was quite the looker for me. The last Vios model was based on the Yaris / Belta in fact , despite a few cosmetic changes it was hard to dis-certain one from the other. I think the Vios had more bling like a nickel shell and slighly modified headlights + better kit. But you dont get many examples in SL and i think many were imported for Airforce +Navy usage. The experts must correct me but both cars had the 1NZ engine, although not sure about the gearbox for Vios. Don't know about the latest Vios , but the one before which was very popular in SL wasnt very comfy for me and had noisy suspension. Dont know whether it was a build quality problem / the example which i used was maintained bad. On the contrary the IST faced road abuse much better, being the more silent and smoother ride. IST was more responsive , fun to drive and also looked better vs the Vios. But i think Vios had more pick up. IST had a few grades, where you got some very good kit for the car. (F, FL so on). Personally if you ask me i would prefer the IST , against the Vios , during the whole usage experience of mine.
  20. Early 2000's and they have started again , very recently i think it is called toyota "SURE"..i saw a few Premios in the Wattala showroom, not the main one but the new showroom at paint & body repair complex. Am not sure whether they are from auctions or Toyota dealers in Japan direct.
  21. Not an Uber driver but am a frequent UBER user these days as the Monty is on body repairs after the accident. I get Priuses on Uber Go as well as Uber premier. Hard to differentiate but generally Priuses which i get on Uber go are i think 2007-2013ish cars ( two english charaters), whilst on premier its always 03rd & 04th generations. I think the manufactured year has soemthing to do with it. Uber is quite a user friendly app even for drivers. Just download and use the option drive with Uber. Uber zip in only for Kei type hatches
