  1. 121 G is a Old. I had it in my mind but dropped because of the year of manufacture and mileage (no idea why they are so expensive :/). Vios and belta was also considerations but female members of my family doesn't like the face of these I came across a 2008 141 which has done 90k. His price is around 3.5M but I am negotiating for 3.3M.
  2. Long story short!! My budget is 3.2Mil (max). Toyota Corolla 141 (2008/ 2009) or Honda Insight Hybrid (2009/2010) are on the plate. I am a foreign worker who visit Sri Lanka every 3 months for 15 days. Car I buy won’t be used much when I am not around but I like driving long hours when I am in Sri Lanka. I consider below factors when buying a car. 1. Comfort since I will take my family 2. Decent Mileage (for long drives) 3. Safety in unforeseen circumstances 4. Second market 5. Availability of spare parts and maintenance Give me a head start, lads!!
  3. I am looking forward to buy a Toyota Corolla 141 LX under 4M. I know I can go for 2007 - 2010 year models and around 50k - 80k in mileage . I am just curious if any of you lads got experience with these cars and if so, 1. What are the major mechanical problems you have encountered with this car 2. Fuel usage 3. What to look when buying 4. Questions to be asked Supports are highly appriciated.
  4. Last week, Nissan announced that it had released thousands of vehicles onto the Japanese market that had not been subjected to comprehensive safety checks. Nissan has announced that it is recalling just over 1.2 million vehicles in Japan that do not meet domestic requirements for final inspection. Earlier in the day, shares in the Japanese car giant fell dramatically, after it announced at the end of last week that it had released thousands of vehicles onto the Japanese market that had not been subjected to comprehensive safety checks. It later said that approximately 1.21 million units produced between October 2014 and September 2017 would be subject to re-inspection. “Nissan regrets any inconvenience and concern this has caused to its valued customers in Japan," the carmaker said, adding that it was "taking proactive action to resolve this matter". 5. If you have done it many times, you are the right person to answer this question. How the tax will be calculated in Sri Lanka mostly, percentage or CC wise?
  6. Say I buy a car which has a CIF value of 2,000,000 in SL rupees. So for that value I have to pay 104% of tax (which is another 2.08 Mil) which makes the car value 4.08 Mil. By custom valuation you mean the value decided on the car by customs as I heard they will tax based on the invoice. Appreciate if you can clarify.
  7. Thanks iRage. This is what it called a proper explanation. You are right. I certainly have to "katta kanna" if I want to clear it. Clearing agent will be a smart move yet I need to make sure the guy is genuine and no hidden costs.
  8. I have been reading many articles on this forum regarding misleading done by agents when someone try to import a car from Japan under his personal name. Since there is a question of the authenticity of information provided by car sales people in Sri Lanka, I think of buying a car from Japan which I have two ways to go with. 1. Buying it through an agent which the car will be purchased through an auction and send to SL under my name. 2. Buying it through a friend in Japan who will do the necessary arrangements and clear it from the port paying the tax. For the second option, I heard we need to get the service of a clearing agent. How accurate is this information? Can we not clear it by our selves? Also current tax percentage for a hybrid below 1500CC is 90% and a petrol car is 160% (correct me if I'm wrong please) Thanks,
