I had 2 accidents last year and i claimed both which amounted to Rs.52000. This year the insurance premium has been increased when I questioned they said "There were Two claims intimated and premium higher than last year."
Is that how it works? I'm bit puzzled, How does claiming has an impact on the premium, how do they calculate?
    FYI.
Last year premium was: Rs. 49,075
This year premium is increased to: Rs. 83,011

Nah they must have changed the sum insured figure of your car.

Is there such a thing called a reliable car ? Every car has its niggles don't they ? It is just that some even with the niggles will keep running faithfully whilst others throw a hissy fit and take you to divorce courts for all you are worth :)

It's a relative thing; for instance, a car that never sees an engine oil change or even a top-up would usually be less reliable than a car of the same make and model that receives regular oil changes at correct intervals

Well yeah - It's always a matter of choice isn't it? I mean I've had to replace the A/C condenser at just 3 years into ownership (that's more to do with the gas and the local conditions).

AFAIK  the 1.5 L Variant does not have this belt issue.  - the 1.0 engine is a wet belt.

Well if it's worth it that's all that matters, the most reliable car in the world wouldn't be worth it if it doesn't make you "grin ear to ear" after all 😇

Ok so I took the car to Hybrid Hub for a service as the agent was absolutely useless. Got my favored choice of engine oil too: Castrol Edge 5W-30 A5. Just realized the agent was using Motul 0W20 C5 all along.

Re: my woes, there was a service advisor named Akalanka who explained things very well. He took about 20min to go through these with me.

    1) Brakes: calipers were getting stuck and I need to replace the front pads. He was surprised they wore off this fast and it looks like even the rear pads that were recently changed seem to have worn unevenly, thereby eating into the brake discs. The rear discs have worn quite a bit so they can’t re-face it. In any case, I need to book a separate session to get this fixed with a possible brake fluid bleed as well. Not enough time to do it with the service. The brakes still don’t seem to work right and I need to push the pedal down quite a bit.

    2) Oil leak: it’s leaking between the engine and gearbox and is a common issue. Recommended to get this fixed at the next service since it’s a 2-day affair that shouldn’t be rushed. Estimate is around 100k.

    3) Suspension: the links are not snapping back into place after a movement for some reason and there isn’t any visible damage (grease leaking, etc.). The shocks themselves are alright though. Need to book some time to get these removed entirely and checked + replaced.

    4) Battery: the report came out bad and was advised to check for a different brand of battery apart from Amaron for longevity. They suggested Yuasa from DSL, but not sure if they have EFB ones. Anyway, my idle stop isn’t working anymore so this needs changing in a little while. Last time I changed it was in 2022.

So.. it looks like I need to pace my repairs as they will end up being very expensive.

Aight Imma say it: the amount of repairs and the cost you end up having to eat sound quite excessive for a 6-year-old Japanese car in all honesty... is she worth all this trouble and cost? There is also the issue of a potential timing belt failure

    What is the model?

    TS10 - Pro

    https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32720737378.html

Another plus point of getting one specifically designed for your vehicle model is you don't have to modify the original factory harness - the unit comes with a T-harness which plugs into the original factory adapter so it's plug-and-play, just as if you bought an original Japanese HU

  6. Chinese Android unit with a good sound processor + DSP.

I got one for my Lancer which has the factory speaker set, sounds way crispier than a Pioneer HU in a same spec Lancer. Equalizer options are pretty neat too.

Plus you can run Spotify/Youtube Music directly through the HU.

Mine cost 75k back in 2022 when the $ was like 205-210LKR from Aliexpress

Go for one with a ROHM32107 or better sound processor and I'm sure you won't be disappointed

Recently Purchased a Teyes Spro Plus for My Vitara. got it down from Aliexpress. Support is also good since it's Russian and Chinese product and updates are available. not to forget out of the box all the Steering controls worked and all the Wirings also included and installation was a breeze (Installed by myself).

    Straight outta EK :D

The agents specifically mention that only 95 octane is allowed. Plus the puretech engines are garbage. The mechs love it nobody else really. The fun starts at around 75k.

Stick to 95. Also the fuel quality is trash now. So not even 95 is trusted.

Price gap sucks yes, but overhaul bills cost 800k. And the HP fuel pump is 350k even imported.

According to my cheap ELM327 scanner there is hardly a difference between 100% 92OCT and 50% 95OCT when it comes to knock sensor readings...

Got myself a Launch scanner, will repeat the test and see if there'd be a difference

What app/software did you use? I have ELM327 and the 406 doesnt seem too happy with 92. Need to get a reading.

Car scanner pro version. Easily the best app for ELM327 readers out there

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ovz.carscanner&hl=en&gl=US

I also bought a Launch CRP129-I from the winter sale on Aliexpress for $135 including shipping, quite the bargain if I do say so myself. Still waiting for it to be delivered tho

    Dear friends

These days octane 95 is Rs.464.00 and 92 is 366.00. Such a big difference.

One of my friend is having a local agent imported Peugeot 3008 and he Is using 92 for TWO years without any issue (without any additives).

Also, a Peugeot garage owner (who had worked at local agent earlier) told me that 92 is ok for local agent version while UK vesion will get damaged by 92. (May be due to compression ratio difference in cars made for UK and South Asian region)

If you have a 3008 / 5008 imported by local agent and if you use octane 92, can you please share your experience (for how long you are using and are there any engine issues etc.)

UK 3008 / 5008 owners, if you use 92, can you please share your experience as well.

What does the owner's manual say? If it says 95 Octane is mandatory and any lower would damage the engine I wouldn't pump 92RON.

I have a Mitsubishi Lancer, the owners manual recommends 95RON but states gasoline with an octane rating above 90RON is compatible because the car has a knock control system (almost all modern vehicles have this system afaik) and pumping 90RON or above would not damage the engine.

    gI5EUd3.png

If there is no audible knocking sound from the engine after pumping 92 I think it would stand to reason that the knock control system is capable of adapting the engine to 92RON. For example, fellow forum member @misnad tried pumping 92RON to his Civic and had to revert back to 95RON because the engine started audibly knocking despite the knock control system

If you have an ELM327 OBD scanner you can see how much your knock control system is retarding the engine timing to compensate for lower octane fuel. Compare the readings between 92RON and 95RON and if there is not much of a difference it would be safe to assume that switching to 92RON wouldn't be an issue long-term

    1. Check the heating up of weels especially at shorter distances.

Doesn't the Eclipse come with TPMS from the factory?

My $20 Chinese TPMS system monitors the temperature inside tyres, I think it would've triggered an overheating warning if something like this happened
