  1. What's with the sudden influx of spammers? Can't we have one or two more moderators to get rid of them?

Hi guys, yep spam always been an ongoing battle for us...today also performed an update to AL forum software with new set of spam prevention features. Will consider adding new moderators to combat spam and keep the forums out of trouble...Tx

  2. Have any of you guys used this new engine oil brand "KIXX" ? Think it's any good? Carries API labels and is listed on API engine oil licensing database

@Hyaenidae No problem. Let me know the feedback after usage. The oil is recommended mostly for Korean vehicles only (as per the agent). Hope you're having a korean vehicle.

@PerfMad Nah it's for my Japanese Lancer, used to use Valvoline premium conventional (100% Mineral) But now that it costs 15k+, why not spend the same amount and go for a semi-synthetic r8? I'll update if I feel any different after the switch, but I'm hoping there won't be a noticeable difference

      PerfMad

@Hyaenidae yeah no problem with that. But you can get toyota oil for 14k as well (mineral one). Anyways let me know the outcome please.

  3. Is the strut boot a big deal? one of my strut boots has been cracked. Should I get it replaced? Is it worth dismantling the front suspension assembly to replace it?

@iRage 3700Rs for one front boot, 7400 a pair and about 5k in labor

I'm quite sure I could find 2 refurbished strut assemblies for a similar price :D

Get Matching KYB strut boots or other quality OEM matching. Try Vauxhal motors in Vauxhal street.. (usual joint for Taas supplied kyb strut replacements). Rates are pretty reasonable. Replaced all 4 struts including stab bushings, links and rear spring pads. Costs me 4200/-. All they do is strut replacements and they are masters of it. You can use the kyb part catalog to find the matching boot covers. If you have the part numbers, try amayama or partsouq. There could be deals better than ebay.

      Partsouq : $30 (Branded)

      Ebay : $30-35 (Branded)

      Ordered a set from Amayama

Oh c'mon.....equally bad or even worst cars have been fixed up over here....in SL there is no such think called a total loss...the service is unavailable because it never existed. Even if a car blows up the book might actually live on ...

@iRage that's what I meant too, I mean importing a new belta as two halves and welding it back together would be more economical than repairing this one isn't it?

That is, if the car didn't have a comprehensive insurance cover

    4. iRage

      iRage

Since it is a Belta it probably would be as these things are cheap in Japan and Thailand and plenty around. But in more expensive cars I have seen them actually pull out the frame and then just replace the body parts. In SL not many people fix body panels anymore...cheaper to buy used ones and also they do not have the skill to do it anymore (even if the material the panel is made out of is possible to be fixed).

  8. Effin' pickup driver reversed onto the rear bumper while I was parked ???

Luckily the damage is minor, I'm on two minds whether or not to get the bumper repainted or leave it as it is

Missing out on activity on the forum these days as I'm preoccupied with family matters. Sorry to see the damage, but that's not a big deal IMHO. Just touch it up and don't bother painting the entire bumper. Painting over the original paint for a scratch as small as this is just not worth it.

I'm not sure if my eyes are deceiving me, but I don't see any exposed metal. When clear coat is scratched, it does turn white or an opaque colour. So might be that?

Since you've already touched it up, now use a light cut and polish to remove the roughness of the touch up paint. Do the same for the bumper as well. This will minimise the "untidy" appearance of the touch up paint because it will cut down the paint to the level of the paint of the car.

@K.o.N.o.S It was a guesstimate, they said the cost could be higher... and yes, the damage cannot be seen in the first glance

@trinity called UNIMO on the accident site with the pickup driver, they guesstimated it could be around 8k so the got the pickup driver to cough up 8k and let him go. Called the insurance (c******o) too, they paid 9k on the spot and told me to inform them if the repaint costs more than that... all in all I'd incur no monetary loss if I go through the full paint route

@Davy I didn't see any exposed metal either but I had some touch up paint in hand so covered it up lest there be rust spots somehow in the future

OMG! I know that awful feeling! Better to go for a place with a painting booth, but if you are closer to Kurunegala, I can suggest best place I know.

@Hyaenidae??????. Here’s a story that happened to me. One day I was driving one of my friends manual Corolla 2, which had some shifting issues in the selector. When going down a sloped bend, suddenly a bus crossed the road to make a u turn. Went for a pretty hard brake to stop the car. Then I shouted “ h*****da?” while the driver was glancing at me through the door. Sadly, the gear selector was unable to engage but I was hurrying to go, making the engine scream. After a few seconds the shifter worked. But really ashamed as I was unable to continue the “loku line” due to the gear shifter, who made me look like an immature at manual gears?

Well...we do not know the entire story...there are other reasons too....

I know quite a few people who had successful business and were able to afford payments on cars (both reasonable and extravagant ones) and mortgages...but because of fluctuating policies of the country they lost their business/jobs and had to give up their vehicles, etc...to keep their businesses afloat and families supported. Also, the leasing system in SL is sort of very ruthless...you miss a payment or two and the penalty fees start piling up that it would not be financially viable to recover ones'' self.

Thanks @Hyaenidae for the message. Called the place. Apparently, leasing company has nothing to do with the car. They just advertised it. It's at a car sale in Kohuwala. Not a leasing yard.  unregistered.

It's difficult to resist the urge. :smilie_liebe9:
