Anyone know a place in Colombo/Suburbs I can buy a dome light assembly for a Camry XV20 ?
-
I wonder what will happen to the rather optimistic nissan leaf pricing now...
-
@MaleCortana I know right. It has not been replaced and had a range around 50-60. Apparently the buyer was a buy and sell bloke. So yes, still the price is there.

So I checked couple of Rextons during the weekend (even during the fuel crisis, I went on hunting for a good one) and did close to 150km trip. I found a topping condition vehicle (i would say interior and exterior combined 96% good) out of all the vehicles i checked this was the best with proper pulling power no lag at all.
Now i'm kinda so much into it wanting to buy it ASAP. But with current situation, the asking price is little higher. As per my predictions, prices of these should reduce further within next two months. I hope the price of hybrids will not drop drastically compared to these.
So now i'm considering whether to wait another 1-2 months for this or shall I go ahead with the purchase? For that I need to get rid of my hybrid as well (these days i'm not sure people are purchasing vehicles due to high loan rates and finance rates).Open for suggestions...

Well, if I were you I would not be looking for a new vehicle at the moment at all. If I have something with 4 wheels spinning, I would stick to that by all means at least for 2-3 years or until this mess is settled. New vehicle means, extra cost no matter what one way or the other its always a money pit. (Unless you are downgrading to a cheaper option) With this inflation, saving money for food, medicine and settling debt is more important IMO. But if you are lucky enough with money in the bank then never mind.. go ahead with the purchase 😎
If you decide to purchase, I'd say buy it now than later. With this volatility, no one will know what will happen in 1-2 months. Just my 2 cents.

Considering FD1, FD3, FD4, Rexton XDI 270, Tivoli or a Korando.. What are your thoughts on these?

First time hearing lack of boot space in a GP1 tbh. 🤨 Those magic seats go perfectly flat and, you have huuge space as opposed to a sedan. I have hauled whole bathrooms in my GP1. 😀 Ceramic sinks, Commode, Ladders what not. May be not as big as a suv, but its a pretty practical car. I doubt you will get the same boot space in FDs.

The first victims of the fuel crisis are unsurprisingly the barges - everyone seems to be selling them and the classifieds and facebook groups are flooded with them. Prices are dropping rapidly and I really really hope a few enthusiasts get hold of them for a reasonable price else it would be really sad to see them rust away 😞

Not the best of times ... but still 1.4 Liters of RWD goodness might just cheer me up ... if I get to pump a full tank ... 😶

Well at least they haven't blocked this site - it's testing times and automobiles are grounded mostly with the ongoing fiasco. But there's a treasure trove of knowledge, experience and anecdotes in this forum - maybe time to fire up at least some fun threads - like we did during the pandemic lockdown #1 in 2020?

Day by day the 'Hit' automative quote in SL is making sense is'nt it. "සබ්බං පහාය ගමනීයන්" - Must leave everything behind.
Anybody else, contemplating on leaving SL ? I know its not the forum for this classic debate. And it has been argued back and forth. But are there any rational to stay. Because I can'nt find any, apart from parents.
p.s. I have been very firm on staying here in SL until these recent developments. But even if these issues in the country gets temporary solved by some loan, will there be any assurance things will get better and remain better in future.
Leaving parents, your assets here to start from 0 in an unknown setup with lot of risks. Is it still worth, the way things are going right now ?

Thanks heaps for the eye opening thoughts there @iRage given the situation, it seems even starting from 0 is worth and can be justified when thinking about the long term.

"S#it is hitting the fan at an alarming rate here." -- For sure man. Things are declining at a rapid. I never ever had a thought of leaving even at the end of January. But just within a month, things have become really shitty. Talking about IT industry, @matroska I heard that some companies have pegged their salaries against USD ? Is it really good ? I mean there must be a catch ... Doubt companies would do something like that for the benefit of employees.

Same here @Gummybr I was also one of those advocates against it and you know invested in so called basics of a house, land, car here. All of which will not possess any value way the things are going.
May be I am too pessimistic, if you google the Lebonon economic crisis they had the same signs as us (USD, Fuel, Electricity, Food, Gas etc) few years back and now the country is bankrupt.
It would have been best, if there is any chance to possess a PR of a foriegn country while staying here is'nt it. But it has become so competitive, not sure if there is any chance of using the skilled migration path. Which is why your friend resorted to student visa...

Indeed, totally agree with @varotone and @matroska no matter however how much we try to stay, seeing things where it is going it is very hard.
And @ghostwriter I also have 2 kids below 10, its scary just to think ahead of 20 years.

Is it only me or everyone else have noticed the distance you can travel per tank have decreased significantly?
I used to do 700-750km per tank in mixed situation. But I can do roughly 600-650 in mixed situation -
What are the option to increase the ride height? Vehicle - FIT GP1
Low ground clearance is a pain to travel in areas away from colombo.
(please do not consider the tyre option or wheel option as all my tyres are pretty much new)-
@matroska absolutely correct, that place is a nightmare. I barely escaped that with scratches going sideways once visiting the book fare.

Took someone for a ride and the person claimed his Premio was far comfier than my car (Camry), while I don't really want to compare which one of us can fall asleep faster in the car, this inevitable question popped in my head, where does the Allion and the Premio fit in, in Toyota's lineup in Sri Lanka?
I can name a bit of the hierarchy, I'm assuming Pixis < Vitz < Corolla < Yaris/Belta/Vios (?, or are these worse off than the Corolla?) < Camry < Premio/Allion (?, smaller engines suggest the other way around) < Mark series < Crown ? I know some of these cars are not exactly all from the same time but where do you agree with this lineup?
-
@matroska what I have an Axela bro. Well, I hate to accept relatively I found Premio better in terms of comfort. 😕 I guess its partly due to my stiffer suspension and my seats.
I guess along with many other factors, Seats contribute a lot for comfort. My seats are leather, they do not hug you. I hate my driving seat. May be its just me, I have found the seats on most Toyotas super nice. Not the high end autos. e.g. Prius, CHR even the seats on my GP1 was good.
When it comes to seats its something relative as well, it would depend how big you are etc.
As you said Premio is a good car with good level of comfort and 'relatively' one may find comfortable. Not 'THE' most comfortable car ever as the crowds claim.🙂

I guess one cannot compare a SUV with a sedan in terms of comfort. But nevertheless since it came up, my father owns a Premio 2013 and FIL has a LR Disco 2019. I have travelled couple of long distance trips in both and to be honest the Disco was bumpy and it was tiring and the rear seats were real pain in the a$$.
Where the Premio has this floating feeling and the leg room is great and it was not tiring.
Note I am not from the Premio crowd and I have never owned a Toyota my self either.🙂
