  1. Ha ha this is funny, but in a serious note apple is working on it. Here's the interview listen to 1:08 mark, All things aside what I like about tesla is that they dont seem to have model year option limitation. If the hardware is there they give all the features. But other companies dont do it. For example my 2015 C class driver assistance features and 2016 driver assistance package features are different. But both cars have the same hardware. Simple software upgrade would give me the access to new features but they dont do it. They want people to buy the 2016 model if they need such features. But Tesla on the other hand dont do that. So I like what they bring to the table. This might change the auto industry in general, as currently its driven by mainly on Softwares. Hopefully, this would put pressure on other brands to do these things. I am fed up of going to a car dealer everytime I wanted to update bunch of softwares sometimes its even as small as navigation maps.
  2. Not to mention Faraday Future (another startup company) is starting shop at Nevada with a $ 1 billion dollar factory then rumor has it Apple is also working on a EV car (Elon musk believe apple is in fact working on it).
  3. Well I have to disagree on that for this reason. They have taken into account for the terrain and AC. If you take into account SLs temperature you get even more distance. There are several parameters you can play with it in this page. Plus brake energy re-gen takes care of 80% loss energy when you are going downhill. So extra energy you spend going to Kandy would be regenerated when you come back to Colombo. In any case it looks like I gave up the idea on buying one. Above paper is dated early 2015. We need to find has anything changed since current budget. https://www.teslamotors.com/models Scroll to the bottom you will see the calculator
  4. Now there are more things we have to find out, is the electric car tax rate is still 5% or 50% (Remember budget increase the tax rate but MY3 said its gonna be the same 5%). Yes I would agree reliability issues would not solve by Tesla but if that can be solved by having tesla support center in SL I dont see a much problem with the range of the car. 450 km range means you can reach anywhere in SL from a one charge. So in theory this is not only a city car. This can be used as the only car as range is so high.
  5. Your input is really encouraging, thanks for your valuable input. I m leaning away from tesla due to lack of support network. But if and when tesla officially launched in SL most of the disadvantages goes with it. So that should be the time to buy one. Its not the time to buy a tesla in SL yet. Like you mentioned there's the wow factor but when you think from your brain I started seeing the disadvantages. Correct me if I m wrong BMW 7 and Merc S class hybrids are not in the same price bracket in SL due to the tax architecture. But in US they are in the same price range. Thanks again for your input.
  6. This is my question too. I dont think there is any support available in SL (Lack of a repair facility concerns me). SL is building charging stations but they are not Tesla superchargers where you can charge 80% in 30 min. But this electric car is a very practical car for SL. Like I mentioned 400+ km in one charge makes it really practical.
  7. I think rayman answered your question.
  8. Thanks, he sent the info via a msg,
  9. Also to make matters worse Tesla is implementing a new car buying experience. In which they don't believe in traditional dealerships and agents. They are a company which believes in direct to consumer approach. So no dealerships. Teslas are usually sold in shopping malls. You directly order the car online, and they deliver it to your door step. Its like buying a computer (only expensive). So for them to launch in SL, they must themselves decide to open shop in SL. No businessmen in SL cant become a Tesla agent. In a way, this is good because in SL this will reduce the stupid agent fee or local charge in buying a car. But the disadvantage is, it would be very late in the game if and when Tesla decides to start shop in SL. If we had 5% Tax rate, Tesla would be a very practical car in SL. 432 km range can take you anywhere in SL. The $60-70k price tag would be around 10 mil (its expensive side) but with Model 3 coming in it would have been a car to replace most hybrids in SL.
  10. Can you spell out the name in full, Currently I m not living in SL and I m not familiar with names. If you cant spell out can you inbox me the name
  11. I am very interested in bringing down a tesla model S to Sri Lanka. I think there are few in Sri Lanka already. My major concern is lack of support. As this is a new car company and new car this car bound to have some problems (Simple search I found screen stopped working in consumer report car etc etc) so do you guys think there are places to do such repairs if it arises. I talked with tesla motors and they told me once it leaves the shores of the country of purchase warranty would no longer valid. They told me if I want a right hand car they are happy to order it from UK site but I will be voiding the warranty. But in SL major concern is the places to do any repairs. Please if you do know a place that do repairs for Teslas please let me know.
  12. Yes winter tires are pointless in SL but all seasons are not pointless. Only thing I can think of why agents dont like all season tires are because they last long and they loose business. If you can sacrifice a little bit of cornering stability all season is the best tire for treadlife. After all I dont see axios, allions taking bends at high speeds to get use of summer tire performance. Ultra high performance all seasons have almost all the benefits of a summer tire except the disadvantages of summer tire.
  13. This tire is Advanced sport A/S tire. This tire has a tread life warranty for 50000 miles (84000 km). But this tire has A/S at the end which implies ultra high performance all season. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=ADVAN+Sport+A%2FS&partnum=54YR9ADSASXL&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes
  14. What is your tire type, is it a summer tire? if that so that explains the tire wear. Looks like you got yourself a summer tire Check tirerack.com for information

    Tyre Prices

Guys, if I can give some insight into it. I recently purchased a brand new car (Acura TLX- Those who dont know whats Acura is Acura is the luxury division of Honda and TLX is their equivalent to Honda Accord if anyone likes to see photographs I would be happy to upload them with my uograded 19 inch wheels) in USA and one of the first thing I did was discarding the original brand new tires (Which were good year Eagle LS2s). They were terrible. So I researched a lot and learned a lot about tires. I hope no one would take offence if I share the info. First thing is never ever go for cheap tires because its the only thing between your car and road. So always check for reviews and their performance. In fact one of the biggest misleading factor in tire purchase is threads. In fact what's threads and thread pattern does is to displace water and avoid hydroplaning. Since SL is a country with lots of rain this need to take in to account. Then the compound, there are summer tires, winter tires, all season tires, GT tires. SL is a warm country so no need to consider about winter tires. Summer tire are the best for SL condition, but they suffer thread life (Usually 15000 kms). Best bet for SL condition is all season and GT tires. Now they have ultra high performance all season tires look for Michelin Pilot sport AS3. They are rated for 45000 miles (72000 km). Excellent tire has a very good wet and dry grip and good rating for hydroplaning resistance. Maybe only disadvantage is they are slightly expensive. All major tire manufacturer has this category (Continental DWS is also an excellent tire). Tirerack.com is an excellent source to get information and tire ratings. It has a wonderful database of tires and if you want you can probably buy them at their ebay store (I m not so sure of international shipping). With the new Michelin tires its like now I drive a different car. Earlier its used to give me tire noise at 30 mph while taking a bend and now I take bends at 60-70 mph (100-110 kmph) with no tire noise what so ever. In summary always buy good tires with good ratings. Spend a little on tires as its the only thing between you and the road. Check for thread life warranty as that way you can get an idea that how long the tire would last. Hopefully, I didn't offend anyone if I did I m really sorry.
