  1. But, with your financial condition machan it is not wise to go after Japanese cars. IMHO you should look for Indian Maruti or Alto for the time being. Be wary of the Rusting in Indian models.
  2. Be wary of the CVT gear box if you intend to buy the Civic. They are notorious for breakdowns in Sri Lankan context. Any who, Civic is better than the Tida in all respects if you don't mind the gear box.
  3. This is a natural reply. They can't be responsible for the vehicle imports because they have no authority to police over them. Apparently the best thing to do is to ditch the Stafford altogether and find some well reputed local mechanic who can do the job and repair the engine.
  4. This is called planned obsolescence machan. All most all the major car manufacturers follow it now. They don't design durable cars as they did before 2000s. Modern cars will start to show age only within the first 5 years. The venerable models like Lancer boxer and AE80s are no more built.
  5. M****F***** They won't last long if they continued to behave this arrogantly. Didn't you try a scan tool? Maybe it can pinpoint the exact issue your car is having.
  6. Toyota Mark II hands down. It comes with the FR setup. You can't go wrong with that setup. Bear in mind bro all these listed models have bad fuel economy. Camry might do reasonably well compared with these 3 models but even then you can't expect the Toyota Corolla type fuel economy from these cars. Do a simple search in the forum and you'll find more infor about these particular cars. Don't buy these cars for investment buy them if you love the experience and the comfort. They won't deliver more than that.
  7. Don't know much about that model machan. But I think it won't be much of a trouble to maintain.
  8. The AT scare of early 2000s were also justifiable. Many cars like Honda Civic ES series got ruined because of the CVT auto gear box issues manifested by our own stupidness. However still it costs a lot to fix auto gear box issues and cars like Honda Civic, Fit Aria, CRV and such are marginalized because of their auto box issues. When it comes to Hybrids it is an entirely different issue. Our people started buying the hybrids when they were relatively young. In those times there were not many issues with Hybrid battery replacements and so forth. But now the older cars have begun to mature and they have started to show there age. We see many hybrid battery failures and their replacement costs are staggering half a mil rupees for a guaranteed parts. There are low cost alternatives but then we don't know when the battery will fail again. Older hybrids are like older super models. Anyhow, we haven't yet hit the crisis level. Wait for a couple of years till the late 2012 cars are going to mature. Then we can see the real drama.
  9. GDI is not a bad technology but in Sri Lanka the fuel quality is not healthy for the GDI engine. Hence the bad rep.
  10. If you have driven a 121 which is clocked around 150,000 why are you afraid of the 112,000 of the Axio? Engine must be in perfect condition except for few minor issues which can be sorted out by regular bass uncle. Macho, bear in mind that all most all cars in Sri Lanka have concocted mileages. Don't go and look for low mileage cars but look for car with good engine and body. P.S. The cool civics were actually the cars from 1990s. They haven't made a JDM hero after the EK series except for the brand new model they released recently IMHO.
  11. Well it is my personal advice. Anyhow it is not my money, so you people can go and do what ever you like. I bet you do know what you talk about Hybrids.
  12. Age is a little issue for the Allion/Permio models. The main problem will be finding the body parts, unless of course if you live close to Colombo. Other than that they won't give much trouble as they are solid and reliable cars with good resale value.
  13. Ade Cross wind why do you bug me? All I know it that IO has the GDI engine and we Sri Lankans should avoid it at all costs. Am I right?
  14. Don't buy the IO or else you will have to say "Aiyo" every day.
  15. Fit Aria does good on fuel but the problem is the sensitive CVT gear box. So check the gear box well if you want to buy the car. Other than that it is pretty solid reliable car. N16 and N17 are heavy cars that's why it doesn't do that well in fuel. But it has decent fuel consumption except for 1300cc model. Avoid it at all costs. It is really under powered. Lancer CS3 is overall good car but I don't know if your budget is 20 laks then how can you afford Fit Aria or Lancer CS3.
  16. My personal advice is to avoid hybrid vehicles for the time being.
  17. 141 does bad on fuel (around 7 city limits) but overall the most unmolested car of the lot.
  18. First off Yaris/Belta belongs to the sub compact segment while Allion/Permio belongs to the compact segment. Therefore, naturally Allion/Premio is more powerful and spacious between the two models. Secondly do not pin your hopes on car's mileage. The Allion?Premio surely might have done over 150,000 by now and Yaris/Belta must have passed the 100,000 mark. So, choose your priorities wisely. Do some checking in this forum for the fuel consumption rates of the cars you are interested in. I don't think Allions and Premios does badly on fuel even in 1800cc models.
  19. I am sorry burst your bubble. But it is indeed as bad as they say. Though I admit E34 is a hell of a car and do nicely in photo shoots, it will be a burden to your pocket if you want to maintain it in the pristine condition. AFAIK you are not seems to be that guy who can throw money at will for expensive stuff. So my advice is that you should keep to more reliable Jap model rather than chasing after collector's items.
  20. I was just looking for car for around 15 laks for the past few days just for kicks. I came across Nissan primera P11 and the Nissan pulsar CJ11 model. Check those cars also. Specially the Primera. Heard it is a proper blue blood. Goes around 15-16 laks these days.
  21. Machan it's useless to fixate on the trim level. Better to choose a car which is mechanically sound. Anyhow don't pay a premium for a back seat head rest and a teak steering wheel cover.
  22. It's a totally BS price tag. Considering some peoples' mindset in this land like no other I don't think that the seller is willing to negotiate. Better to keep away from this car. It's not worth the price you pay. Better buy some junky FB15 for a lower price and do the necessary repairs.
  23. Suzuki Swift would be a better alternative. However let the experts say something on this matter.
  24. For city driving better to get a Indian model or the Viva brand. They are pretty much useless for anything else.

Don't go for the engine swap mate. It will seriously depreciate your cars resale value. Better sell the vehicle and look for a other model. BTW what kind of oil leaks you had?
