  3. Gearbox - Lancer C12

    Hi Davy, I have been always using ceypetco 90 gear oil for this car. This was always the case on cold mornings with this reconditioned gearbox. These few days it has been quite cold in the mornings maybe thats why I feel it more. I dont recall anything like this with the original gearbox.

    When the car is cold, shifting from gear 1 to 2 and down shifting from 2 to 1 is difficult. Its slots in though but its just a bit difficult to engage (no grinding or anything) But when the car is driven for about 10 minutes it sorts its self out and the shifting is fluid. I am aware that the oil needs to be sloshed around a bit for the gears to get lubricated properly. But I was wondering shouldnt the gearbox oil have a minimum or optimum operating temperature? ( for example when the ignition is switched on the gearbox oil starts to warm up ). Regards, Iced-T

  6. Steering wheel vibration when idling

    Thanks Davy, I got this vibration as soon as I fixed a vibration on the drivers side door . Anyway there is no play on the steering wheel. The engine seems to be vibrating the normal amount I think. I tried recording it but on the video nothing can be seen. But ur right it cant be anything other than the mounts or the steering bushes. I hope i dont have to put the car in for more than a day. These are busy times.
  7. Hi all, I get excessive steering wheel vibration on idle, my idle rev is around 900Rpm (with aircon running). But when I give it a little bit of gas it stops (around 1000RPM). The vibration is only when the car is idling. My engine mounts are new. Any help is much appreciated. Iced-T

  9. Thermostat replacement

    Thanks, I will keep the system dismantled until i search for a replacement thermostat. should be about 3 or 4 hours. I am hoping this would not affect the properties of the coolant water mixture. Also will I require a gasket sealant to put on the thermostat housing when I close it up again?
  10. Thermostat replacement

    Hi .. I have just noticed that the thermostat on my car has stopped working. I want to remove it and get it replaced some time this week. The only issue is that I just filled in new coolant into the system (last week). Will I lose a lot of coolant when I remove the thermostat housing? Or should I drain the radiator into a bucket .. and just pour it all back in? Vehicle details : Lancer C12 , 4G15 engine. Thanks.

  12. Fuel station strike

    I had to travel from Colombo to Negombo and back on Monday. Had a full tank of fuel but wanted to save as much as possible since there was no indication when the strike would be over. So I ran the car without aircon. One of the worst days of 2017... It was so hot!
  13. Hi all.. thanks for all ur help... The problem was with a cracked vacuum hose from the air inlet filter to the exhaust manifold area in the engine (not attached to the carb). I am so glad I managed to find this. After the hose replacement no hesitation at all xD. I checked the ends of the hose, whereas the middle of the hose was cracked... cant believe i missed this .

    hi :)... Just my 2 cents here...... I have owned 2 euro cars so far and these are my general comments. Generally if the electronics in these cars give way... there will be a lot of problems.. The rubber components also get hard, brittle and break due to the SL weather. Things like roof upholstery may start to sag... infotainment screen may burn out. Sensors start to malfunction. u might spend more time in the garage than on the road. Trained personnel are extremely difficult to find. The worst thing is even if the previous owner maintained these cars to the best of his ability these problems will occur. Used euro cars can be a headache and I have had some bad experiences ....but the driving experience is amazing! I hope this one is good tho.. waiting to see what you decide.
