  1. Guys I need to make a pitstop for few hours next weekend in the route between Haputale to Kahawatta... Can someone tell me are there are places I can visit/chill for 2,3 hours in this route? Like a nice river or mountain area to have a chilled beer or something for few hours along the route of haputale to kahawatta.

    1. Whether you retain the sensors and other electronics depends on what you buy. Some engines pretty much come with all electronics in tact whilst some don't. In some cases, like with the 4A_GE, even if the engine came with all the electronics the engine sellers strip them off and sell them seperately (due rarity hich has pushed their prices up). So you should try to buy one with everything already in place.

2.Hmmm.... It does seem like your engine will need some significant work done soon.

I see.. thanks irage. Hope to at least run this for 2 years (20k km's) before I could save some money for the conversion project.

  3. If you are driving a Bus or a Lorry, then buy CE#T. No one buys CE#T for cars. Nankang or bridgestone is the best. Used both. Nankang has a low noise version get that. Or bridgestone. Both are equally same.

  4. One question. Currently the idle stable issues I'm having in my car which none of the mechanics were able to diagnose, they suspect its either an air issue or an electrical issue. So lets say, when I swap the SR18 with the SR20, do you think the electrical components get swapped too, so that this issue I have will also be gone away? or the electrical components will stay the same in the car?

Adding to this, earlier when my car ignition was set to advance there was knocking. Then I retarded the ignition and the problem went away.. Now again even though the ignition is in retard, the knocking is back. So do you think the engine wearing out is just around the corner? A plug also got burned within 3 weeks of replacement.

  5. Hi Folks,

The car is a an automatic Bluebird U13 Arx and it has driven 205k km's already, and I'm seeing signs of engine trouble like plugs getting impacted with oil and burns out, engine knocking even though the distributor is set to retard (max), and issues with idle stabling. However the pickup and speed hasnt reduced. So I'm guessing in another 15k to 20k km's im expected to have to do an engine overhaul or replace it. So I'm thinking, instead of doing the same SR18 engine again, to replace it with the SR20DE. But before prepping for this I need to know all the details as to what I should expect to do and keep in mind when I do the swap. Following are my questions:

    1. Will the brackets/mounting fit the SR20DE engine without a problem or do I have to do new mounting adjustments also or is it just a direct fit? is it the same engine design?

    2. Do I only have to change the ECU, Gearbox when I do the engine swap or are there any more items that needs to go in?

    3. Should I be worried about suspension too? Like should I be upgrading the suspension too to fit the SR20?

    4. What are the CONS?

    Hello,

Did you get them down? Could we have any feedback on the performance?

Also, does anybody have any idea if they are available locally?

    Thanks

Yes. Really good performance im soo happy. No its not available locally, even if they do its highly priced than ebay. So go for it.

  7. Guys I really really need help here please.

When I reach the speed of around 70kmh and when the car is in 4th gear, and when I release the leg from the accelerator (withoiut keeping my leg on the brakes) the car vibrates/knocks heavily. And at the same time the RPM meter also fluctuates.. When the speed reduces then the car goes as usual without the vibration and RPM meter becomes normal too. This happens only after driving at the 4th gear for few seconds. Mechanics wouldnt know what to do either because this happens occasionally and they cant get it to happen when test driving. Also the car stops sometimes at low gears during traffic.  I have done the following repairs so I dont' know what else to do.

    1. Cleaned throttle body

    2. Replaced all 4 plugs

    3. Cleaned idle valve/AAC valve

    4. Replaced all 3 mounts (engine, axle, gearbox)

    5. Front Tyres are also new

    6. Cleaned intake manifold and Air filter

    7. Replaced fuel filter and fuel pump

    8. Adjusted distributor

Can someone tell me what might be wrong?

Fuel consumption of a nearly 20 year old car would depend a lot on the condition of the car. Engine and transmission wear, etc has a lot to do with it...so there really is no way to give a reasonable assessment.

Stay away from the Starlets...97.5% of them are thrashed heaps of junk (either by cheap owners or racer boys with some wierd half-witted , cheap conversions. the decent 2.5% are over priced or will not be sold even if you threaten them with physical harm.

yes. go for a Presea or a Bluebird. Solid shit!

I was curious who was complaining about good fuel figures - well I'm not surprised.

Anyways I can think of two things

    1. What Gummy mentioned : Calibration issues with the meter .Try comparing the ODO with a known distance /or with google maps/ check with someone else.

    2. There's actually nothing wrong : 1.8 Is the perfect size engine for the car. Enough power to pull it without getting stressed out. Despite people fearing larger engines - I have ample experience where underpowered small engines end up being gas guzzlers. My dad's B14 which we used for decades never did anything above 8KMPL having a tiny 1.3 engine and dragging a lump of a car around. The fact that I floored it more often than not did not help :D

Alright then, this bluei is gonna be the car for my life. Already started buying extra parts and saving them in my room, to use when there are no body parts left to buy in SL at all :D Come to my house like the last time, lets go on a ride :D

Actually what I meant was that the Odometer must be having a calibration issue (car shows a higher mileage than what it actually is) could happen due to wheel sizes being changed or with wear and tear. My old Samurai had the same kind of issue it used to show 28kms on my way to work whereas it should have been around 23kms and even the speedo used to show a higher speed than the actual, I never got around to fixing it (supposedly a DIY thing where you take off the speedo and adjust).

Ah no its not the digital speedo, also i keep of track of the distance i usually drive and its accurate :)
