Went to see a VISTA H number car. Advertised at 23laks and brought down the price to 15. Then took a mechanic to inspect the car to find out its an accident car. A well spent 7.5k for the mech and fuel.

@tivthe chassis and the side of the engine bay was crooked. He showed me and then I saw it myself. I didnt pay attention to that initially when I did the inspection. True, you cant find a car with no accidents but we can find a car that hasn't been condemned before
-
@tivyes, I never settle for less. it took me 1.5 years to find my first presea, and another 6 months for my 2nd, so I can stay a few years for this as well

Want a LEVIN or a CARINA ED
-
@iRagethere is a carina ED parked everyday at the wattala pizza hut. The owner works there.. 3 years ago I asked him if he is selling and he said No.
-
Well you can always ask him...are you looking for a mark I, II or III ? I figured Mk Is and IIs were too old....so there are only about 3-4 Mk IIIs...Mk Is...about the same amount and last I heard one was restored and the others were in bad shape....
Sadly this is a common fate for Carina EDs, Corona EXIVs and even Marino/Ceres

If the speedometer of a car is not working does that mean we have to replace the whole meter board? the rpm meter is working, its the speedometer that is not working.

I think what @PerfMad is getting at is that botched mileage tampering also can lead to certain parts of the speedo not working, saw a Mark 2 with a tampered meter (only had done close to 1000km in like 4 years, past four years of eco test reports missing) with a broken RPM meter, be careful mate.
-
To answer your question...it depends on the car....in some cars, the different meters are physically seperate components just screwed on to the same faceplate. In some cars (ie. most cars) they are seperate dials connected on to the same circuit board.
How can you fix a broken meter ? Well if it is the first type then you can just find a replacement meter...the second type (of even the first type if you don't want to replace it) there are people who fix up the circuitry and and mechanical components to make it work again (of course depending on what is wrong with it).
But..please do be weary about why the meter does not work....it could be because someone tampered with the meter or it could simply be because a broken cables/sensor/ stuck spring/etc...

I agree to all on your post reply to meter problem.
Still it is better to get a person who is handling meter problems for an another opinion.
I have had plenty of different opinions to a different subjects, from who are well qualified people.
Only one person gave me the correct answer, many were trying to earn thousands on that problem.
At last persons advice was the best to that problem. Still he is on that advice.
Already four years have passed with no problems whatso ever.
Once in six months he visits that person and get the problem checked up.
That is also not for a fee, He will carry a present and gift him.
Therefore my advice is to get a different opinions from two or three professionals before coming to end decision.
This forum is there for motorists to get advice and different opinions.

Guys for the no objection letter and sellers ID card copy, can an all island JP sign and put the seal or should it be the JP or gramasevaka related to the area of the owners' address stated in the book?
-
@kusumsiriso an all island JP cant sign?

eyeing on mazda bj5's these days

There is a huge gap when it comes to Auto Toyota cars between 17-19laks there are actually no Toyota cars to buy. I mean all the english numbers go above 20 and all the non english numbers go below 17, so there is nothing with an english number to buy for 18 or 19.

So last few days I did some research on the vehicle market and this is what I have gathered so far.
1. 75% of the cars advertised these days are sold buy baiya's
2. If you say you are buying for personal use, they will quote you a higher price. But if you tell them you are buying to sell it, they will quote you a lower price. They are keeping a buiya code. Tried and tested, it works
3. Most of the cars are sold from baiya to another baiya these days and there is no end user for a car. The same car is advertised by 3 different baiya's in the 3 weeks.
4. The rest of the remaining cars advertised are sold buy non baiya's who has bought the car not less than 2 weeks, which again makes them a baiya indirectly.
-
Unluck is what you called, a car being sold, while you are few minutes away from the owners house, while going for inspection. Can this get any worse?
-
Ok, im going to buy a basic bitch. Looking for a Toyota Soluna below 18
-
Finally 2 car owners which i gave offers for said Ok for my offers, but now im hesitating to buy thinking if i wait some more I will get something better than those. Sigh.

@matroskahe has made the seats leather. I hate leather seats 😕 the classiness of the vista is gone away because of that ugly seats. so I'll just wait for the BB to reduce 50k and say ok to me.
-
went to inspect a mark 2 gx100 today. Gave my offer and came. I will get a word on monday. A full restoration project that one will be.

Yeah...6 lakhs is kind of like a low ball offer, but then it also depends on seller....especially if the seller is a company because they do things a bit differently....after depreciating and such and the car has been financially written off....you might be able to get a car from a company at a lower than market price. Then there are also people who are desperate to leave urgently (know three people who had to get rid of their vehicles and close thier accounts and such in like three weeks..so they got rid of their cas for dirt cheap..)
-
Im ok to buy a frameless windows, auto car of the 80's if there are any. Should be toyota or nissan though.

@iRage Thats one hell of a Japanese Luxo barge.
-
Oh heck yeah...you probably couldn't find body parts for it even if your life depended on it...Japan doesn't have much either...but on the plus side I beleive Austalia has a fair stock of donor cars.
I had a feeling it was the same thing that kept on popping up every few months since Q2 last year (maybe even before ?). -
@iRage Yeah the seller isn't going to get it sold anytime soon, pretty sure it'll go for a song
-
Looking for an FB14 for a shit price. I aint gonna pay 15 laks for a 20 year old car, for any car. Its unjustifiable and doesn't feel good for the conscience. I will just ride in Uber if I dont get a car below 15. Period!

Looks like you'll be ubering around a bit, ain't no one going to part with a 20 year old car for less than 15 lacks 😢 (unless its a complete shitbox) or perhaps your saving grace? Duplicate Books? I know, I know it's basically the same as a normal car and it's unfair to negotiate based on that. But when in rome.....
-
@iRagehowever, the B14 is currently the most market car in sri lanka. Every B14 gets sold the same day or very next day
-
Hard to believe that...but then again...but mass Sri Lankans and car market is the worldn's biggest con etablished by the stupidest and dirtiest and unethical people in the country.
As to people who buy it simply do not know...and the ones who have it do not want to tell what a pile of crap they are because then they cannot get rid of it. Just like people simply keep shut about all the crap things the Axio 141 o even the Premio/Allion is.... (now I am sure there are a few good examples around...I have seen a few expot models that are in good shape...but keeping it like that is very very hard)
But then on the othe hand...it is exactly the type of car Sri Lankans want (especially the stingy pumpand drive types)....it will run with no pre-emptive maintenance at all and when it breaks, like I said before a monkey with a pineapple can fix it with some rubbe bands and mango peels. Heck....Toyota's best selling car in Sri Lanka was a ca they designed 20 years ago and kept on making till March 2021.So...if you want a cheap pile of crud that you can run for cheap..by all means...go for it. It will be an easy car to run. Not an easy car to live with.
-
Ok guys, now im officially looking for a Toyota Vista Petrol Auto car. The SV40. I'm in love with that car
-
@sathyajithj99 looks like he's adopted the polygamy way of life, good on you "RandomLate90sJapaneseOnAWhimLover" 😛
-
Some prick has reported me as a spammer on fb car groups and now fb has prohibited me from posting or commenting for few days. Great!
-
You know what. f**k it, I'm buying a TOYOTA

See that is the thing....for starters...the ones out of the factory had extra welding and other stuff for body stiffening. Most of the conversions here simply are still the pudgy barges with stiffer suspension so they ride like barges. Even then....it is still a sedan. Law of physics would beg to differ otherwise
Tourer V and IR-V are really nice cars (in both original and proper conversion form). But again..they are not Supras..yet alone Porsches.
-
@tivi dont have money to buy or maintain these cars.
-
@PreseaLoverto be honest a majority of the car community who are into project cars dont have money to have a surplus car for having fun.
But somehow we manage to shoehorn our finances to accommodate these expenses. Lastly maintenance most of us handle DIY.
-
You know what, I think I'll just buy a presea, since there are no petrol U13's to be found.
-
Its confirmed. I'm not buying a presea again.. I'm searching for a U13.. Thats it. I dont like the presea anymore now because I like the U13.
-
For once in my automotive life I got 2 options to pick from and I was pissed when I only had 1 option to pick, and now I got 2 options to pick and that's even worse, I can't f**kin pick.. Because I'm gonna be stuck with it. You know its like picking a one night stand. You know you gotta go down on the one you pick, so you need to pick the most suitable one.
-
Finally found a U13 auto petrol car I like, but cant buy it cuz the dashboard is cracked and i checked with around 20 spare parts shops and there are no dashboards to be found for the u13. f**k my life.
-
....because in SL it probably is easier to just put ina new one because we do not have skilled mechanics/engineers/labor. We have plenty of part swappers who are ever willing to keep swapping parts until whatever problem resolves itself...also...95% of our guys are too lazy and careless to do a proper job anyway. It is also th owner....90% of people who use Corollas and Sunny and old bluebirds got in to the car to run cheaply and fixing things like dashboards is a "luxury" repair.
But people do repair dashboards...my Mark X had a repaired dashboard....the infamous Axio dashboard melt has both replaced dashboards as well as repaired dashboards (needless to say the repaired dahsboard has a sense of "maarket naha" situation and some people automatically beleive that a repaired dashboard means a crashed car (thus the swap is easy to hide).
It definitely is possible.. You can do something like this....

With newer passenger side airbags you have to be a bit mindful of how the airbag deploys and lay the material accordingly. Any cracks in the foam or plastic is filled with either foam dust or plastic filler...then the dash is painted or wrapped. Either method has its own pros and cons....

Sometimes I feel like going to a owner with a good condition U13 or a Presea and tell them "Sell your damn car to me oi, you drove this enough"
