  1. What are the option to increase the ride height? Vehicle - FIT GP1

Low ground clearance is a pain to travel in areas away from colombo.

(please do not consider the tyre option or wheel option as all my tyres are pretty much new)

Unless you have worn out shocks, if the ride height is a real concern then best to change the car :) than changing the ride height(if not done properly it might impact the handling characteristics of the car or worse make it unsafe). I did the same coz the roads I had to travel, even the Allion couldn't make it. If you only need just a couple of mms more then it might be ok to modify the current ride.

Thanks all for your inputs. Im also considering another vehicle. but these days are not suitable to go for a newer one. So let's see how it goes. need to do further R&D on this.

reasons for not recommending strut spacers are that, I lost the comfort the car earliest had after the spacers were put in and it started making a loud thud sound from the rear whenever I went over the road bump so had to extra slow when going bumps. I put 2 inch spacers which made a noticeable gap between the wheel and wheel wells which, to be me was, ugly AF. During sharp bends/ beds with upward or downward slopes it started making a "kiri kiri" sound from the front suspension. Now I have an Axio but I still won't get it done to it due to those issues. I will happily let it bottom out or would ask the rear passengers to get down if I sense its get the bottom scraped. Gotta live with it until I can afford to drive a crossover/SUV..sigh

  2. Went to my usual place to get the service done and witnessed 2 cars of Toyota Premio oil burning issue (seems like its an inherited issue in one engine variant) and corolla 141 (gearbox failure). Whats up with JAPANA?? Newer cars are not reliable at all. Looks like you can't always blame honda for its DCT failure where as Toyota normal trannys also failing :D

Thanks @hrm. Now your daily is a sorento? It's well built compared to early kia models right? Love the diesel power output as well.

    3. hrm

      hrm

@PerfMad Yep. Enjoying every bit of it and interiors are held up surprisingly well for a non-Jap. And yes the instant acceleration of the 197HP/430NM diesel is quite addictive.

      PerfMad

@hrm talk about it. That instant torque and power is quite impressive.

  3. Ok I'm utterly confused now. My car (FIT GP1) gear oil is due. Checked with Stafford and they said they put CVTF. Checked with my other mechanic where I do my routine services and he recommended to put HMMF (he has the genuine oil as well). Even the oil stick has a label with HMMF.

Any idea whom I should believe here?

@iRage thanks for the information. Sometimes, i doubt what the agent says. Because these buggers just put whatever oil they get hold of for low price + higher profit margins. I used to go to them for services and then stopped. because they don't even have a specific engine oil. They put whatever they have in stock or get their hands on. And the prices have increased in each service interval :D

    3. iRage

      iRage

Sadly that is the case I beleive with most agents. The cost of having to stock all these different kinds of oils is too costly. Thus, they get kokatath thailya type stuff. This is also the downside of buying cars that are not intended for the market and having completely unregulated part imports. In most other countries, parts shops need to purchase authorized/genuine parts through the local agent. On one hand it ensures authenticity of parts, brings down service and maintenance costs at the agent and the agent is able to maintain proper stocks of popular models. But obviously, our mudalalis have no incentive to actually follow any structure.

    4. PerfMad

      PerfMad

@iRage True that. That's why I'm sticking into a known garage and get the services and oil changes done with genuine recommended materials.

  4. I know it's stupid, but is there any chance of converting the GP1 auto with a manual tranny? There was one gp4(hybrid) with a manual tranny sometime back for sale.

If its possible, what things would need to change? I prefer to have the hybrid system as it is.

Note: And going for a manual GP is not an option as its rare and with current prices its hard to find a good car with low miles as mine.

You hate the CVT gearbox dont you? Its kind of a sad story when you try to climb mountains with a load with all the noise. As Dee Jay says its better to look at the CRZ engine and gearbox.

    3. PerfMad

      PerfMad

Thanks @Dee Jay i will look into that option. Only issue is CRZ parts are harder to source.

@Gummybr lol its not the CVT but its the auto trannies I hate :D I had to opt to this as i couldn't find a manual car back in the day and wanted to car for my needs + car prices were increasing like crazy year ago. But knowing I hate auto trannies, i still regret of buying this with an auto tranny. i would have enjoyed it more, if this has a manual in it :D There is another friend of mine who is looking for the same option so, just wanted to see available options.

    4. Dee Jay

      Dee Jay

@PerfMadtry sourcing directly from Japan.. this should be from the 1st generation CRZ as well... I don't think 2nd generation CRZ internals would fit a GP1 since it's mated to the next generation IMA hybrid system (as in 1.5 liter engine and Li-ion battery pack)

  5. Gotta admit that KOITO halogens provide better visibility compared to what I had previously..

I got some lights via daraz (with motion sensors) but there were ones without motion sensors as well. And as I saw the ones I have two modes (haven't tried it out though) one of which is catering to your need. That was from a local seller so they delivered within a day or two.

@matroska called couple of places. They seems to have tyres made in 20/21 planning to pay a visit. Since I replaced 2 front tyres with Japan dunlops, thought of doing the same with the rear once as well. Was running on original tyres and all are expired now.

They quote me from 16500 -19000 . Only few shops had dunlops. others recommended to go with Hankook stating that even the new audis are told to replaced with Hankook :D i highly doubt it. It is made in korea right?

    3. matroska

      matroska

Well Hankooks aren't bad - yeah they're Korean. But it seems the tire situation has improved somewhat albeit at a higher price- around a year ago it was pretty difficult to source tires at all.

    4. PerfMad

      PerfMad

Yeah. replaced tyres with Jap Dunlops. I guess im good to go for another 5 years (hopefully) until I sell the car :D

  12. 2015 Tivoli a good vehicle for daily use?

  13. Any recommended vehicles to purchase below 3mil?

    Main requirements are;
    * Should be AUTO (and no 2 door vehicles please )
    * Prefer something beyond 2000 (YOM)
    * Preferably a english letter reg no
    * Fuel city 8+ is enough
    *Parts availability is a must

@MaleCortana i know the feeling. we owned a 4 door for almost 8 years. good car with low maintenance cost. Only issue was leg space and ground clearance issue. Now my brother has increased his budget upto 4.5mil :D

    3. iRage

      iRage

      Well...in that case...

      You do get

      - Lancer CS

      - Corolla (export variant)..yes..it is a Corolla...but the thing is the cheapos stayed away from it because it did not do 23.567 kmpl.

and both you might find one with a decent agent's service history.

I beleive a Swift (Beetle model) might also be there...

A somewhat newer option might be a Hustler if a kei car that is somewhat larger is on the table...

    4. PerfMad

      PerfMad

@iRage thanks man. Unfortunately he sold his swift beetle like 2 years ago. that was in topping condition 1 owner low millage car. Now he doesn't want the same one. so looking for other options. Corrolla is also in his list. but most are hacked :(

Thanks @mazdaspeed i checked with Elcardo. They don't program Three singha roller gate keys due to frequency issues

      MaleCortana

@iRage yep yep that makes sense, what I meant was that our vios was higher specced in comparison to our 121. Obviously a luxel would be better specced than a vios.

I still prefer leather over cloth seats, cloth seats tend to retain more dust in my experience and needs to be vaccumed out whereas leather can be wiped

    3. iRage

      iRage

Both have pros and cons....the nice fabric feels a lot better than the fake leather than all the cars like Vios/Corolla/etc..come with as well...the only nice alcantara leather comes only in the high spec models like Harrier, Crown, etc... (even the Camry does not have any actual leather...it is mostly synthetic..especially those in the SEA market). But then, leather does heat up and cool a lot as well so it is difficult to keep it tempreture managed unless it comes with heated seats, etc...and leather needs to be treated as well. So where up keep is concerned I would say both are more or less the same in terms of effort. It is just that the effort has to be put in different ways.

    4. PerfMad

      PerfMad

yeah im someone who always prefer fabric over leather. cz the fabric is more comfortable than the leather. However i like the leather seats which comes in W124s. those are genuine leather as i feel and its so comfortable and soft.

  18. GP1 or FD1 manual ?? What are the issues I may encounter during the ownership of a manual FD1 assuming the millage is around 150k where my GP is in 70k range..

Is it a good opinion to exchange or go for a FD? (only reason to go for FD is cz it got a MANUAL tranny ❤️ )

This is whats been used by agents and they always says it should be changed every 5k intervals. Well i mostly do highway runs and less city traffic driving. However, since mine is a hybrid cant control the idle stop times 😬😬

    3. Kavvz

      Kavvz

I don't have a lot of experience with hybrids, but just going on logic: Having a hybrids probably means your ICE engine runs less and is under less stress (warms-start-stops aren't hard on the engine, as the oil is at temp etc its the initial cold start that mostly causes wear)- So if you are doing a fair bit of highway runs, I feel you can easily push past the 5k limit with fully synthetic oil such as this. I would shoot for a one year or 8500km oil change window, what ever comes first for this kind of oil....(And if you are anything like me that means it will be around 9k when you finally get around to taking the car in for its oil change... 😆 )

    4. PerfMad

      PerfMad

Thanks brooo.. I usually change the oil at correct intervals .. im kinda planning to change the service location as at agents  prices have gone up.

  21. I'm currently running on 0w-20 and planning to switch to 10k oil with same viscosity if available because i'm doing 5k every 3 months.. My question is, if I change from semi to fully synthetic, someday if I stop using car more often, can I switch back to semi-synthetic just by changing the oil? Or do i have to do some cleaning before switching ??

    1. Show previous comments  3 more
    2. The Don

      The Don

If you are switching between semi and full its probably a good idea to use some extra oil of the type you are switching to, to flush the system through.

    3. iRage

      iRage

May I ask why you feel you should switch to semi-synthetic when the car is not being used often ? Cost of oil is not justified ?

    4. PerfMad

      PerfMad

@iRage sorry my mistake.. Im currently running on full synthetic oil. My question is, is it ok to swap to 10k oil from this? and if someday I stop using the car more often then i can switch back to 5k synthatic oil as before without any additional cost or cleaning?

  22. Aftermarket universal hand rest any good??

  23. Merc project is officially off the hook. Car was sold last week. I hope the new owner will continue the restoration project and get it into running condition soon.

  24. what are your insights on purchasing a evo 4/5 or sti 4/5 probably a conversion? How about the durability of the parts and how difficult is it to source parts? Is it a good decision as im planning to use it as a daily and roughly do 1500km per month..

Well...adjustable dampers are pretty good....so don't discount one with a TEIN or..damn..what is the brand assorciated with a lizard ?...upgrade. See if you can adjust the dampening levels and see what it feels like. I think the adjustable dampers would be more versatiley...you can set yourself a parent-friendly setting...kid friendly setting...friend friendly setting....I am all alone and want to go bonkers setting...just think of all the possibilities ! Typically 8-10 different adjustment levels !!! Lets not even get in to the damber and height adjustment possibilities and the # of permutations of setting that offers you ! OMG !!!

    3. PerfMad

      PerfMad

@iRage thanks for the explanation. Now the hardest part is to source a stock manual evo or sti. Most of them are heavily modified and i don't want stage 2 clutch on a daily :D
