  1. My Advise, if you want to enjoy driving go for a Fd1. Because i drove couple of Fd4's before I changed my mind on purchasing one. Fd4 is quite slow in terms of pulling power where as FD1 is exact opposite.
  2. Never heard of such an issue. Please update the post if you find any solution. By the way from where did you replace the battery? It could be needing sort of a calibration. Why not try contacting the Agents?
  3. In GP1 its normal. you will feel a small jerk/sort of a vibration when you switch from EV to engine

  5. if you have done over 50-60k km on the clock, why not try calibrating the clutch mechanism? It might solve the issue. Agents does it via the scanning tool.
  6. Vehicle prices have gone down or people don't buy vehicles due to fuel price hike + unavailability of fuel?

    Am I the only nut case spending my valuable fuel on inspecting cars :D

      @matroska True that. EV is not a viable solution for me unless it does over 300km in one charge atleast. However, I don't think EV's will be the future in SL untill 2035 i guess hehe. Vehicle price have come down mostly i guess because many are migrating so they wanted to get rid of it asap due to currency difference .. hmmm

      @pantheraleo I feel you bro. Just assume me trying to sell my hybrid is difficult. So selling a vehicle which doesn't do good at fuel will be impossible these days. However, i hope the fuel crisis will be resolved by 2-3 months so atleast all of us can go enjoy our rides regardless of the fuel price.

      I'm kinda happy that I didn't purchase a SUBI now. Otherwise I would have being spending my whole week in queues :D 

  7. So I checked couple of Rextons during the weekend (even during the fuel crisis, I went on hunting for a good one) and did close to 150km trip. I found a topping condition vehicle (i would say interior and exterior combined 96% good) out of all the vehicles i checked this was the best with proper pulling power no lag at all.

    Now i'm kinda so much into it wanting to buy it ASAP. But with current situation, the asking price is little higher. As per my predictions, prices of these should reduce further within next two months. I hope the price of hybrids will not drop drastically compared to these.

    So now i'm considering whether to wait another 1-2 months for this or shall I go ahead with the purchase? For that I need to get rid of my hybrid as well (these days i'm not sure people are purchasing vehicles due to high loan rates and finance rates).

    Open for suggestions...

      Well, if I were you I would not be looking for a new vehicle at the moment at all. If I have something with 4 wheels spinning, I would stick to that by all means at least for 2-3 years or until this mess is settled. New vehicle means, extra cost no matter what one way or the other its always a money pit. (Unless you are downgrading to a cheaper option) With this inflation, saving money for food, medicine and settling debt is more important IMO. But if you are lucky enough with money in the bank then never mind.. go ahead with the purchase 😎 

      If you decide to purchase, I'd say buy it now than later. With this volatility, no one will know what will happen in 1-2 months. Just my 2 cents.

      @GK_007 agreed. Thanks for your input. In my case its kind of a downgrade in terms of the YOM and Millage wise. But in otherway this will get all of my other concerns go away :D  Pressing issue is the price as of now. As you mentioned im not interested in going for a loan or lease rather planning to pay the gap by cash in hand. 

      Question is should i be paying extra for this (assuming these will drop drastically in coming months) or should I wait for another 2 weeks or so and take a decision? There is a possibility that this will no longer be available in that case as well

  8. Considering FD1, FD3, FD4, Rexton XDI 270, Tivoli or a Korando.. What are your thoughts on these?

      Lack of boot space in the GP1? You mean with the seats up? with the seats folded I even hauled a cane chair (sofa length), :D 

      RE the civic - don't think there are too many manuals out there sadly. The FD's were imported during an era when everyone wanted an auto gear box.

      Wise to avoid the diesels - it seems the diesel struggle is a bit more tougher than the petrol hunt.

      First time hearing lack of boot space in a GP1 tbh. 🤨 Those magic seats go perfectly flat and, you have huuge space as opposed to a sedan.  I have hauled whole bathrooms in my GP1. 😀  Ceramic sinks, Commode, Ladders what not. May be not as big as a suv, but its a pretty practical car. I doubt you will get the same boot space in FDs.

      @matroska & @GK_007 I agree with you two. But im saying with all seats not being folded and having an extra sparewheel in the boot. So when i go out most of the time there will be 3-4 people onboard so cannot fold the seats. and when going out i take my kids PRAM as well. once its loaded u basically don't have space at all. 
      So I'm getting continuous complains from my wifes side due to lack of space :D 
      That's why i started hunting for a vehicle with good boot space.

      Other than that i agree if only 2 people are going this can use all the space and it's very practical too.

So i went to inspect a MG 6 car manual tranny. it was fun to drive and never noticed any trattling noise or any other issues except for the fabric on the roof and door is loosen (same as FD series due to heat).. Unfortunately it seems like there is a difficulty in sourcing parts in the future. too Bad i was so into the car and was gonna make a move .. Now back to level 0.. hunting for a vehicle again 😢

      @fiat fan thanks for the explanation. I went to see one last week and I agree with your points the recent owners have done some baka bass jobs and identified those. Therefore i gave up that vehicle and started looking at alternatives along with any good Rextons. One thing I noticed was, this vehicles is pretty comfortable compared to Sorento 2012 model.

      Im also searching for tivoli as it has a nice look compared to Korendo. But kinda above my budget. I have also found a MG 6 car. Is it any good? its seems like a 1.8 turbo charged.

      Thanks for all the information given. Some of the vehicles are maintained at a reputed place in pannipitiya. Seems like they are well known for Korean vehicles maintenance. Heard it from a friend of mine who use a Kyron for last 4 years as well.

      Broo This is some weird coincidence. We were actually thinking about getting a MG6, almost pulled the trigger but then we went with the diesel tivoli.

      I tagged you in the thread I opened years ago. They were 5.3(Chinese made) and 6.3(Thai made) for the fully loaded models. Had so many options. Base spec was about 1 mil cheaper. Later the loaded china model went used for about 2.8mil in 2019. 
       

      Drive was excellent and car looked superb. They seem to have faired well. But I can’t comment on longevity or ease of use. Spares must be pricey. UNIMO was the agent at the time. They have a habit of bringing in shit brands and then abandoning it. They just use the unimo brand reputation to lure people in. Not sure if its the same case with MG. 
       

      MG seems to be doing ok thanks to the HS and ZS suvs. But the MG6 was when they started out. It’s about luck really,if u go for one. 
       

      I would go for a Tivoli. Diesels are rare and costly to buy. But plenty petrols around. Not a “market” vehicle, so you can haggle hard. They went from 4.2(petrol) to 5.5(diesel) before covid. Don’t spend extra for the higher specs,not worth it. Base is plenty.  Try to score one for 5.8 mil. Not too hard. They jumped from 6 mil to 8 mil recently. They not moving them bitches for 8mil, so go bargain mate 😅

      @fiat fan Thanks mate. Currently my mind is all over the place. Kinda looking into MG6 (first gotta take ride and see also gonna check with micro about spare parts availability and any known issues), Rexton, tivoli and kyron (front looks bit ugly but heard its a good ride for the money)..

      MG6 is not a good buy?

  12. What do you think of Mercedes W210 Diesel with CDI technology.. Is it a good buy? Pros&Cons?

  13. I also had a City type Z and it had a rpm around 790-850 and with AC it was always equal or less than 900. So i guess you are all good.
  14. It seems like GP1 is having a 35 liter tank not a 40 liter. I let the old fuel drain up until I'm left with 30km range and pumped 32 liters (full tank) of Euro 3. Let's observe the fuel economy and millage this week to see whether spending extra has any advantages (fingers-crossed).

      @pantheraleo agreed. Planning on reconsidering it after checking it may be 2-3 times. But as of now the gap has a better saving compared to KMPL i guess. Also noticed cruising at 80kmph does very well on fuel rather than doing 100kmph on highway. fuel gauges hardly moved during my trip from Matara to colombo including moderate traffic in city roads.

  15. Never came across such issue. Are you sure your 12v battery is in good condition? or the terminals are tightened properly?
  16.  Does anybody knows Toyota Vits KSP130 car spark plug changing intervals? and the correct spark plug code for it?

      As far as I know, the same model is recommended for some Toyota as well as Honda vehicles. So it could be that the factory gap of the spark plug matches the manufacturer's recommendation for one vehicle, but not for another vehicle? I'm no expert on the matter though. @Ruslan just for my info, is it not recommended to change the gap of iridium plugs at all? I mean can it damage the plugs - or any other reason?

      @PerfMad @Izza this is mostly affected for Iridium plugs as the center electrode might become destroyed in the gapping process. although you can gap the Iridium plugs (If it's only necessary) by applying force only towards Ground electrode and not the tip (i find it merely impossible and costly affair if it's getting damaged in the process, so leave them alone). personally i wouldn't allow anyone to change the gap without knowing what they are doing, as usually for our cars gapping is usually comes as pre-gapped. has been replacing plugs on my previous cars with Iridiums and never had to gap them, ever!

      The service manuals do not specify a change interval for spark plugs as the interval changes depending on the plug that is used. The 1K, 5K, 25K, 50K, etc...km preemptive service have an "inspect and change if needed step" and that is about it. 

      Iridium plugs come pre-gapped. Do not try to gap them. Iridium and platinum plugs will typically last around 80,000-100,000km. A copper plug will usually last about half of that...but this is also dependant on the condition of your engine and its oil burning characterisics.

  17. Pumped 92 octane full tank from IOC shed. And had a conversation with the man behind the pump.

    So to me it feel likes either they mix something for 92 (probably an octane booster) and sell it for a higher price. Now this time i need to see how my fuel figures are per tank and decide whether im going to pump 92 from ceypetco shed or from IOC or try out 93.

      @Dee Jay - It was not mentioned in their site but some sheds have a 'Euro 4' sticker on the pump. Few years back they officially stated that they meet Euro 4 standards.

      @matroska Great! 

      At least now we know that both Ceypetco and IOC 95 octane petrol in the country are conforming to Euro 4 standards. 

      Either way spec wise both IOC and Ceypetco euro 4 petrol carry the same values so maybe its a government standard or Ceypetco is supplying fuel to IOC too :)

      mmmm.. i might be too early but apparently I have consumed like 1/4 of the tank and it has done close to 200km as of now in city limits. And ETA shows i can do another 550km (roughly) but i doubt it. Will update you'll probably on monday. 

      Seems like next time i should try 93 and see.

      @Dee Jay yes it does. But even 95 isn't upto standards right. Ane manda still trying to figure out what to do

      @PerfMad Ceypetco claims that their 95 octane is of euro 4 standard. As long as they meet the specification we are good to go with that.. I think IOC is distributing the same 95 octane petrol sourced from Ceypetco, however they don't mention any euro standards with it when marketing..

      The other option would be the 92 octane extra premium euro 3 available at IOC which should also be good for the catalytic converter if they meet the specifications.

  19. Is it only me or everyone else have noticed the distance you can travel per tank have decreased significantly?

    I used to do 700-750km per tank in mixed situation. But I can do roughly 600-650 in mixed situation

      @matroska well my first car had a carbi. But it had issues with eco tests :D I had to do a tuneup every year to get it passed. Then moved on to an EFI where I never had any issues with ECO test no fuel economy as both were better than the Lancer carbi I had. But what u mentioned is correct. less electronics means less problems.

      Wish I can buy another lancer again someday atleast i can enjoy the 3rd paddle again. I don't think we will get any manual trannies in future 😢

      hey what was the lancer car you had? Was it a CB series? Yeah carbs and eco tests don't go too well - that's the downside.  I kind of miss dad's beetle and the datto B110 we had - it's nice to chug along in a manual on weekends. In fact I've been even contemplating getting a cheap little manual just to cure the itch - but everything out there is overpriced and not worth it.

      @matroska agreed. Yup my first car was a Lancer CB1. That was one good car had no issues during my ownership apart from annual tuneup :D and 6kmpl which I managed to increase with carb tuneup along with a rebuild kit.

  20. What are the option to increase the ride height? Vehicle - FIT GP1

    Low ground clearance is a pain to travel in areas away from colombo.

    (please do not consider the tyre option or wheel option as all my tyres are pretty much new)

      Unless you have worn out shocks, if the ride height is a real concern then best to change the car :) than changing the ride height(if not done properly it might impact the handling characteristics of the car or worse make it unsafe). I did the same coz the roads I had to travel, even the Allion couldn't make it. If you only need just a couple of mms more then it might be ok to modify the current ride.

      Thanks all for your inputs. Im also considering another vehicle. but these days are not suitable to go for a newer one. So let's see how it goes. need to do further R&D on this.

      reasons for not recommending strut spacers are that, I lost the comfort the car earliest had after the spacers were put in and it started making a loud thud sound from the rear whenever I went over the road bump so had to extra slow when going bumps. I put 2 inch spacers which made a noticeable gap between the wheel and wheel wells which, to be me was, ugly AF. During sharp bends/ beds with upward or downward slopes it started making a "kiri kiri" sound from the front suspension. Now I have an Axio but I still won't get it done to it due to those issues. I will happily let it bottom out or would ask the rear passengers to get down if I sense its get the bottom scraped. Gotta live with it until I can afford to drive a crossover/SUV..sigh

  21. Went to my usual place to get the service done and witnessed 2 cars of Toyota Premio oil burning issue (seems like its an inherited issue in one engine variant) and corolla 141 (gearbox failure). Whats up with JAPANA?? Newer cars are not reliable at all. Looks like you can't always blame honda for its DCT failure where as Toyota normal trannys also failing :D

      @PerfMad Yep. Enjoying every bit of it and interiors are held up surprisingly well for a non-Jap. And yes the instant acceleration of the 197HP/430NM diesel is quite addictive.

  22. you don't need an expert to fix honda issues. If you can mention the exact issue, can point you in right direction I also own a GP1.
  23. Ok I'm utterly confused now. My car (FIT GP1) gear oil is due. Checked with Stafford and they said they put CVTF. Checked with my other mechanic where I do my routine services and he recommended to put HMMF (he has the genuine oil as well). Even the oil stick has a label with HMMF. 

    Any idea whom I should believe here?

      @iRage thanks for the information. Sometimes, i doubt what the agent says. Because these buggers just put whatever oil they get hold of for low price + higher profit margins. I used to go to them for services and then stopped. because they don't even have a specific engine oil. They put whatever they have in stock or get their hands on. And the prices have increased in each service interval :D

      Sadly that is the case I beleive with most agents. The cost of having to stock all these different kinds of oils is too costly. Thus, they get kokatath thailya type stuff. This is also the downside of buying cars that are not intended for the market and having completely unregulated part imports. In most other countries, parts shops need to purchase authorized/genuine parts through the local agent. On one hand it ensures authenticity of parts, brings down service and maintenance costs at the agent and the agent is able to maintain proper stocks of popular models. But obviously, our mudalalis have no incentive to actually follow any structure.

      @iRage True that. That's why I'm sticking into a known garage and get the services and oil changes done with genuine recommended materials.

  24. are we still talking about the roughness in Steering rack after it getting replaced with nylon bushing?
  25. Did you replace it with genuine bushes? Because these hondas always prefer genuine bushing. Generic ones doesn't last long.
