  1. Owning the Rexton for close to 10months having done close to 15k KM, I simply love daily driving it.

God knows why so much hatred towards Rextons. For me this is far more comfy than the sorento 2012 model (which my relation has).

@fiat fan What you mentioned is correct. But now adays there are many ssangyong specialists and we can get the work done at a lower cost compared to at agents. But still maintaining a SUV is very expensive than a car i must say.

Like you mentioned SD is important and timely maintenance too. I like mine more because mine has tuned to get some more juice out of it than the ordinary so the power delivery is quite good compared to standard. And the turbo lag and other inherited issues which most of the users claims are not there in mine. So i guess i'm going to have to for a long time until i go bankrupt or migrate :D

Am I the only one who loves and gets all teary eyed over turbo lag ? Not that the GR Yaris is lethargic and slouchy off boost but that whole just a econobox feel to a sudden kick in the rear with turbo boost is simply orgasmic and very reminiscent of a world when life was simpler time (as a kid who boosted his and friends' parents' cars atleast)

@PerfMad Yes many places now take ssangyongs in. Well suvs have more running gear and such so it’ll be somewhat expensive over a car. But itself worth it with the crap roads, floods and all that other jazz.

Turbo diesels are fun stuff, them 3L DID Hilux cabs will tun circles around the sedans. But since they handle like crap they just roll around.

What @DeeJay said...yes,..traditionally (and even with other liquids) yellowness can mean higher sulfur content. However, these days it is not always the case because of chemical additives, etc...

Is there any independent body that does random fuel tests on a periodic basis ?

By the way...a few days ago Toyota and ENEOS demo'd their synthetic eFUEL petrol. They seem quite positive about it and hope that it can be commercialized in the "near future" but not the immediate future (hard to translate it in to English). Whilst Toyota's new guy is pushing BEVs Toyota doesn't seem to be totally giving up on gasoline (hybrid?) powered cars as well. Has nothing to do with diesel purity...it just came back in to my head whilst thinking about dirty diesel.

@Dee Jay wish i could measure it :D but we have to rely on what ever we get assuming its the best.

@iRage does these addictive's can have a smell too?

@PerfMad I don't think they will sell something inferior because if so it would lead to DPF issues in majority of the vehicles which require SD and they would be aware of the consequences..

Here, you will find the spec sheet from Ceypetco for Super Diesel and please do note the row 'Colour ASTM', the 'Method' for that and the 'Specification' of that.

IOC XtraMile has a slightly less colour value in the specification which is based on the same colour grading standard, if you check the specification from here.

However, when you compare the Suphur content of both products in the specification you can see that XtraMile has more Sulphur content than Super Diesel. The Sulphur measurement however, is not measured using the same scale in both products though. It seems IOC uses an old standard to measure the sulphur content.

You can read about the Sulphur tests employed by both vendors here

So, don't worry about Sulphur content just because one product has a darker yellow shade than the other ;) IOC however, should update their website if they have a better XtraMile Diesel on sale at the moment because their site only has a 2013 specification while Ceypetco has a 2022 December specification.

  3. So since I noticed bad fuel in the tank. Ended up doing a full tuneup. Now gonna stick to IOC super diesel. need to get another sample to check on this afterwards.

  4. Time to update the profile pic :D

  5. @hrm Thanks mate. I recently took a sample of the SD which i pumped from ceypetco and it did look more like AD. I will try IOC as well to see how it look like.
  6. Guys i also bought a Diesel with a common rail engine. Just curious is this still the case? One of the mechanic told me SD in ceypetco is not upto standard hence go ahead with IOC xtramile. Sorry to ask the same question, but just wanted to check the validity of this statement after 11 years.
  7. may be try the agents. Their scanner might pick this up.
  8. Guys so recently I took a sample of the SD in my tank and it looks dark yelloish.

Smells a bit like kerosene mix too. Is there any good shed that I can rely on for quality SD? All this time i've been going to one ceypetco shed to refill.

  9. Hi If im correct, you are asking what is the gear oil which should be used during the change right? if yes, then this comes with a CVT gearbox and stafford recommends HMMF oil. Last time I changed mine year ago it costed me i think 15k for the genuine oil. There are fakes too. So better you get the oil from a trust worthy place or go to the agents.

  11. As per my knowledge rexton 270 came with 2 variants. One with XDI technology where its 2wd and optional 4wd selection upon request. Other one is the powerup version which is also know as 270XVT where the turbo is different and has AWD + all the fancy options including additional 20 odd bhp than the Xdi variant.
  12. @Urmask what did u purchase at the end?
  13. Boiss need help. So my rear two tyres are sort of out of date. Looking to replace in coming months. Any idea about good tyre brand (which is reasonably priced?)

Looking for HT tyres for a SUV 255/60/R18

@iRage not that freely available. As most has very old tyres. And most are quoted around 65k upwards each (given that these also either chinese or thaiwan made ones). Still wondering which would be a good and reliable fit for mine.

      If you are not after brands;

I've used Maxxis, Federal, Nexen, Nankang- in various vehicles with various sizes. Never had any issue. Would buy these any day even if I owned a rolls royce and if they made a tyre for that!

Used Cooper, Continental, Dunlop Enasave- Very fragile, patch prone, but comfortable

Once used Evergreen - a chinese tyre, to my surprise held up very well for ages on an SUV, but very uncomfortable.

Bridgestone- Hard in my opinion but no issues.

      Good year - average

      PerfMad

@tiv thanks for the headsup. Im having maxxis in front. and MAXTREK chinese tyres in rear. those are kinda expired now. was thinking whether to go ahead with maxtrek is self of maxxis the difference per tyre is around 15k. also found ferentino tyre that also is around 65k price range

  14. I love everything about the Rexton except the fuel consumption :D

Fit fuel gauge needle hardly moved but rexton it hardly stays in one place :D

@hrm true that. mine also does roughly 8.5-9 if i have a soft foot throughout. But its difficult :D so always ended up getting somewhere around 7-8

@Hyaenidae unfortunately yes. When we owned petrols it was the other way around. The moment I bought a Diesel SHIT happened :D unlucky me..

  15. 1. Any advantage of using Lique molly diesel addictive?

    2. Should it be used on a vehicles which runs daily? or only on weekends is also fine?

I have heard nightmare stories of additives + fuel being stagnant in plastic fuel tanks and eating its way through. So beware.
Ideal if used prior to a long trip.

    3. PerfMad

      PerfMad

@tiv thanks alot for your feedback. Liqui moly purge will only have direct effect when its given directly to engine right?

    4. tiv

      tiv

Yes it has to be plumbed directly into the fuel pump for best effects, but people have also drained the tank to like 5L and then dumped it into the fuel.

  16. Hi No need of a mechanic to read the code. It means your gear oil change is due in 100km. Get the oil changed with honda genuine HMMF oil and reset the warning message. Again it will trigger in about roughly 37000km.
  17. mmm usually this is highly unlikely. You can't hear such noise from alternator unless vehicle is operating. Are you sure its the alternator? My hunch is check your fuel pump. It could be the fuel pump priming abnormal sound if it wasn't there before.
  18. Hi @ZuL, Just came across this thread. And im also having an issue with one of my power shutters and it seems to be the motor or the assembly which is faulty. But i need to get it checked and resolved if possible without replacing the motor. could you please pass me the contact no of the mechanic?
  19. Hey folks.. I need some help from you'll. I'm looking to bring down an interior part for my rexton (front dome light assembly) as 1 function is not working. Any reliable source to shop (used or recon both are fine with me). Note that I could not source the part neither in Ali nor ebay :(

Also didn't check with any local sellers who might have it either. Even if you know any local seller do let me know please.

It has the Ssangyong badging? as per the lore that means this was assembled in the factory abroad isn't it? Not micro?

    4. PerfMad

      PerfMad

@tiv this is the locally assembled variant. Previous owner have changed the shell to Ssanyong one as it gives more looks like a full size suv.

  21. I've checked close to 20 Rextons and out of those only one was in good condition (running, exterior and interior) rest were hacked in some sort of a way. And the best excuse they give is these are now old vehicles so you can't expect it to be brandnew.

I don't expect it to be brand new. But those can't be hacked like you drive a rented vehicle :D

Unfortunately the one I like is not for sale anymore, so the hunt is still on..

  23. Tucson 2012 or Rexton 2008/2009 model ? both are diesels which one is better and reliable?

@AVANTE thanks. For rextons there are 2-3 popular people who does good job. also there are few who charge too much for the same thing.

For Tucson i still couldn't find one. But knows one who is very popular for sorento repairs. need to check with him whether he does repair these too..

My main concern is im looking for a 7 seater as it has plenty of boot space

    3. AVANTE

      AVANTE

@PerfMadI would think that if anyone has experience fixing Hyundai/Kia/Ssangyong, he can handle Tucson/Sportage and such. The concept and engineering philosophy is same.

      Hyundai company owns Kia.

Also, look into the Hyundai SantaFe, decent 7 seater with alot of power and options for the price budget. But again, make sure of parts availability.

@AVANTE thanks for the suggestion. Let me do some research on that too.
