  1. සංයමයෙන් ප්‍රස්තූතයට අදාලව උදවු මත පලකල අයට මෙන්ම අශ්ලීලත්වයේ පතුලට කිමිද මඩනාගත් අයටද එක සේ තුති පුදමි. Finally found a solution - to get down the main CPU unit from a 2015 model parts store in UK. There was another suggestion to fix it locally, but navigation and reverse cam guide lines will not work. Will need to fix those options as a separate unit.
  2. Are you really a watchman ??? You have to stand up to your name at least. Re-read my comments and try to comprehend what I am trying to convey. The research methodology only enable us to organize our efforts into one cohesive and conceptual idea generation. What I am doing here is kinda brainstorming the auto society. Final stage is the trial and error. The statutory regulation stands as the consumer protective framework at the trial and error stage of the decision making process. Finally, learn to use your vocabulary more professionally, if you want to be a positive contributor in distant brainstorming.
  3. Firstly I was speaking only of my issue - the regulatory framework should be much broader and has many aspects. Consumer rationality has its limits and boundaries. Beyond that it is the regulatory framework that works. The regulation should take place in two ways - one the capital drainage secondly the consumer protection aspect. I have met a reputed car seller (more than 30 years in business) trying to convince me to buy from them and fix the set up locally and and assured that will work exactly like the original. I have no reason to doubt him because I have used my car permits 4 times with him when I was working in SL. I declined to buy from him, since I have noticed same issue when I bought my Premio 2 years back. The premio that came before had the original set up with navigation, but what came later was to cater to the permit price. I have a friend who was shown a BN Vezel but was delivered a used unregistered one with altered KM reading in the same color same grade and options. He was a powerful man, highly connected to the authorities and matter was resolved immediately. What if the case was with a one of the general public. He may have to waste his time & money with a court case - (like the one that our Sprinter Queen Susanthika had to go through some time back) The industry is Purposely cheating and consumers are left high and dry in many cases in individual buying. Even the JAAI number is hidden from the customer - why same is not public information. Why this can not be part of the regulations !!!!
  4. We have already done this part, I am talking about the main system display ( it comes with the radio - set up and reverse cam display). In this vehicle it works as the main system, so can not be replaced. I bought a Vezela and the Nissan - Extremer together. They both are good vehicles and the Vezel does not have this problem, cos the system display can be replaced. On a different note - Before buying I went to the agents - they do not keep stocks and wanted 2 months to import. Besides the X-Trail comes without the original setup due to the cost factor. I have seen this vehicle in Brussels and and checked with them - they say if you give the model and the engine / chaisis number the company will only send the same setup. Without analyzing the facts, some idiots have rejected my idea of consumer protection regulatory frame work for the industry - can these guys reason out - against a rule - "no auto imports, if the operating system is not in English" - lol....
  5. Thanks for all your positive / negative comments. Bottom line is that in the auto industry, consumer protection laws are non-existent. Buyers are on their own and at the mercy of the seller. Some authority should regulate that - all autos imported to SL should have the operating installations in English. It is not like old days, all operating setups are electronic. Only basic driving is possible. Unless we exactly understand what the system says - we are in trouble. Ex - sometimes the vehicle does not go to the Eco mode - system says something in Japanese (female voice) - Same thing with auto parking.
  6. Recently I bought a X-Trail Hybrid extremer, with top of the range options. The issue is - the display is in Japanese. My family has checked with almost all relevant places in SL (including agents), but did not find a solution. Highly appreciate, if the Auto Lanka members could shed some light on a possible solution.
  7. Sorry for the delay. I finally bought a Honda Vezel for my daughter from Ind... Traders. Same time, we also wanted to have a soft 4x4 for the family and decided on Nisan X-trail extremer. I did not have the opportunity to test any of them, but they are happy with the buy. Both of them have a lot of options, hence electronic side is a bit scary. Any way we all have to live with hybrids now. Should say that the buying experience was very interesting and valuable. I was visiting all major car sellers / agents for about two weeks. Truth of the matter is that all most all the car sellers mislead you, unless you are defiant and rational in your search. Thanks all for your advices.
  8. Had to stop car search and do some travelling around. This is my final week of leave. Will buy within next 2 - 3 days.
  9. Wish all Christians... a happy Christmas and for all - may all your auto dreams come true in the new year.......!
  10. Thanks. Will check Subaru next week. CX-3 is small and the other one is bulky.
  11. Some say that the Vezel has some software problems and needs some expensive repair at 30 - 40000 km range. Any clue...
  12. Definitely I am going to see Mazda. But there is an elderly guy at Colonial - half drunken like. He tries to show off some aggressive selling skills, but ineffective.
  13. sathyajithj99I am planning stretching the budget a bit. Not exactly Vezels. I am still looking for something similar to that. Specially non hybrid. Will start with leading agents tomorrow. The govt has not gazetted the budget proposals yet. May be more amendments will come in the coming week.
  14. I am in Sri Lanka now and will be deciding in the next 10 days. May be a 6.5m is too small a budget in the current market. Currently we are discussing selling one family car - most probably 2014 Premio and negotiate to buy two Vezels or two similar cars from the same seller. Hope fully we will get a better price for two cars.
  15. Thanks and it is a good range to consider. I think Mazda CX5 is good choice. Need to check whether it will be within the budget. By the way - is there any professional reason why Vezel is hated by many. Isn't it a good vehicle for a lady for daily use. And why so many little used Vezels are on sale in less than 2 years of use.
  16. I think Azela is a salon car and is not in the range she prefers.
  17. sathyajithj99 Thanks. We already have 2014 Premio in the family. Trying get close to what my daughter prefers.
  18. Honestly I have very little knowledge on the Sri Lankan auto market. I need to buy a vehicle for my daughter next week. She prefers a vehicle - like "Honda Vezel type". (Not decided exactly on the Vezel. Also a bit afraid, since so many little used Vezels on sale). But may have to settle for that, if not found another one. Hybrid or non hybrid does not matter. Budget is Rs. 6.5 million. Should be an unregistered one. Those who have similar vehicle for sale could contact me. Thanks for all in advance, for your valuable time.
  19. I have been using Chinese make for over 6 years now (do not remember the brand). Heavy use - washing 03 vehicles, drains, tiled open area fish ponds, etc..etc..Only replaced the gun 3 times. No pressure drop at all. Bought from a street hardware shop, costing Rs.18,000. (Two years ago, I carried a Karcehr all the way from here, hoping that the first machine will not last long. It is still unpacked. )
  20. In the first place, it is foolish move to introduce a vehicle permit scheme at all. These are primitive measures. If there is a pay disparity, the govt has to pay them properly. Utterly mismanaged scheme & finally came to the level of a bribe. It is like our "pohora sahanaadhaaraya", aimed at the poor, but same end up in big farms too. The country and the citizens has to face the realities of cost / benefit. If the government can bear Rs 40bn revenue loss, just because of permits. Who will finally pay back the Rs 40bn bill to the govt coffers - non other than the general public of this country. There is similar car mania in India. But they manufacture autos of all kinds and India will become the major auto exporter in the region very soon. whee are we, everybody is talking about how hard they work. It is your choice to become a doctor , engineer or a chartered accountant, you have to live Sri Lankan life. Take a simple example, Why our cost of of a loaf of bread is higher than the one imported, which comes to our port passing 2000 - 3000 km. Because It is highly subsidized at other end. These are strategic moves to sell excess "rodda" to poor nations by such exporting countries, to keep our farmers non competitive in their own market. Can our poor farmers resort to a "strike" action ?? Collectively until and unless we take pride in what we do, what we own, believe in our products, there will never be an economic boom for us. At least one generation has to accept the basics of living within our means. If not today, someday, our future generations are going to suffer heavily. This is how all the so called "developed nations" are what they are today.
  21. 2016 is some sensible budget compared to the budget history of Sri Lanka. One more thing needs to be done – institutional reforms to curb corruption. There is no country without political corruption. But other countries have strong legal structure to punish them. We all know how much rich, the politicians become, after entering parliament. Some are educated & most of them have failed their O/L. So for most of them, stealing has become the main source of income. Another important measure is to control the vehicle influx to Sri Lanka. This huge capital drainage will add value, if at least they are manufactured/assembled in the country or become re-export industry . It is basically a retail industry with huge hidden profits for few and huge capital outflow, widening the trade deficit, that affect the whole economy. So cancelling vehicle permit scheme is a good move. Sri Lanka has to start with a role model economy in all its totality. Singapore is the best accessible such model, not to copy but to innovate a framework based on positive characteristics. We have to remember 45% of the country population gets less than $2 daily income. To avert another social catastrophe, like in the past, the income distribution pattern needs some justification. On top of the above, the president predicted – “if to eradicate drug / illicit alcohol menace, they may have the capacity to topple a government”. Does it mean that the social intelligence level of the country, is taking a minus value ??. Fore the country male population to spend-free on drinking and for politicians - to steal free !!!! Do they help each other to survive ???. Pretty merciful situation.
  22. My driving license was issued in 1991. (the credit card type one). Kept on postponing getting the new one for no reason. Once I arrive in SL I still drive with this license. Is it illegal or can police prosecute me.
  23. Further to my previous post above - The above proposals by SLAEAJ are sarcastic and will further aggravate the situation. There are three things regarding the current auto industry in SL - The market is saturated and no further horizontal scope - One of the most corrupted businesses cheating state coffers - thirdly they have to win customer confidence for survival. We can not maintain a profitable export market in Africa unless we are competitive with Singapore like countries for used car exports. It is a from "zero planning" situation for Sri Lanka. Auto industry need to be strategic rather than wait for the unsuspecting customer for the next sale. I would propose one point for them to win customer confidence - is there any valid reason that they can not publish the JAAI certificate number with their individual car sale ads or they can display same on the windscreen with the sale price. The general public can verify the authenticity of the car details. Can some one explain any good reason why the JAAI number held confidential from the customer. Please refer to this article and see how these people cheat public coffers at will - http://www.divaina.com/2015/10/11/feature11.html We as customers need to be aware and contribute to achieving fair-play in this industry. We should postpone our buying decision for 2- 3 months or to Q1 in 2016. There are a lot of international cases for big brand failures, by improved customer rational into the buying decision. Stop being the "unsuspecting next customer" for these corrupt dealers and force them to come to terms with fair play with rational customers in the auto industry.
  24. Very poor economic vision of the finance ministry, in managing this sector. Every government use mere, grade 10 arithmetic logic to control / manage the economic affairs. Big picture is overlooked and in-depth analysis is very rare or non existing. in this case immediate result will be, car sellers will become blood suckers. But with no additional tax revenue for the government for the ex-stock sales. Consumers have been rendered helpless. What the consumers should do is, to stop buying cars for 2 -3 months and wait. Some may argue, but it is always better to wait till the tax dust to settle down. Market is tense now and in scenarios like this, the least thing the sellers want is the customer to be rational, push them on impulse or speculative buying. Unless consumers take a step back and ponder a little, you will be at the receiving end. It is true that influx of vehicles is a big burden for our poor economy. Some 20 years back, a car was the last in the capital investment agenda for family. It was very rare that we got a car to travel and opt to pay a loan for that. But the social mentality has changed. Now a car is part to of the overall family personality. ( some may disagree and bang on the utility aspect) but I believe gradually even a poor family will start with an old car with utility aspect in mind and finally go with the status qua, attached to it. However, it is unfair to let the general public be screwed at will, and make them pay for the incompetence of the politicians - without any vision for improving public transport. Incompetent handling of public transport system for the past 3 - 4 decades has caused the present situation. So people have decided to solve the problem themselves, by buying a car on loan, and get back to square one with the increasing traffic jams. Now we have two problems - the loan and the traffic. The public transport system should at least be a 10 year plan with a long term overall economic cost / benefit analysis. I was involved in planning the Abu Dhabi bus operation (before 2008 there was no buses and only taxis). With even so much funding available, the government wanted to plan only for a 03 years loss period for the operation and the bus operation should be profitable from the 4th year. There are many success stories, like Singapore, Malaysia in the public transport systems - to which we are deaf and blind. Finally I would suggest that our ministry experts should learn the basic economics of logistics and transport from Dabbawalas in India.
