As for your question about letting the car dry on it's own, you might end up with water spots all over the car - especially on the windows. In a country like Sri Lanka where it's hot, humid and a bit dusty, you're better off using a clean microfibre towel to wipe the car dry. Water spots - see image below:
2I have a garden hose connected to a pressure washer and still use the two bucket method so the microfiber towel is free of dirt when I wash the car with it.
1 : Pressure wash the body
2 : Get the soap mixture (no grit guard), soak the wash towel, clean panel-by-panel from top to bottom (to ensure there are no swirl marks make sure to not to rub the wash towel in a circular motion, just a wipe in a straight line will do)
3. Depending on how dirty the car was, clean the wash towel using the second bucket with water and a grit guard (rub the wash towel against the grit guard) for every 2-3 panels

Hybrids aren't meant to save fuel - they're meant to save the environment (by burning relatively less fuel that is) with their fancy EV modes, regen braking, CVTs, DCTs, etc, etc...
And imo 9-10 kmpl for an SUV that size is pretty good - heck, old Corolla 141s returned that kind of fuel economy

4I thought the Xtrail riding bunch doesn't care about the fuel economy - like, a tankful of premium gasoline costs them like 1/10 of their earnings between a full tank to full tank (in the worst case)

1This I agree - the Lancers engine noise is very audible inside the cabin compared to the FD4. Road noise creeps in too.

Anyways looking at your requirements I'd say both cars fit the bill perfectly.
I've driven both cars and neither of them is as comfortable as an Allion or a Premio - even a CS series Lancer feels comfier. But these are in their own league when it comes to handling and "oomph"
If I were you Id' go for the Lancer - reasons OTOH are:
Lancer:
The better - looking one among the two (looks are subjective though)
Many Lancer EXs are still with their first owners and are being serviced by the agent so you can verify the mileage via the agent -( you can find all information up to the last service done by the agent even if it's not being maintained by the agent anymore )
Better ground clearance (165mm vs 150mm)
A rare sight on roads - Civic FD1, FD3, FD4 all looks the same and collectively there are many civics on the roads than the Lancers.
Agent support, workshop network around the country
FD4 :
Not as rare as the EX so finding a one in good nick should be easier ( I mean, near your area. You won't have to travel a long way just to inspect the vehicle)
Dashboard looks better (again, subjective)
P.S. come to think of it, I'd buy the Lancer anyways. It's a Lancer after all.

It's a common issue among newer Toyotas which comes with "clutchless" compressors... According to AC mechs almost every JDM Toyota clutchless compressor fail between 50k-150k kms (dunno if this claim is true). They replace it with a clutch compressor which came with older 121 and 240 models

In the past, automatic transmission fluid was changed by removing the pan, changing the filter and gasket and refilling with 1/3 the capacity of the transmission. This was the only method known to change the fluid so it was the acceptable method.

An automatic transmission is a closed hydraulic device with no foreign matter being introduced. An engine, on the other hand, is constantly exposed to foreign matter (air and fuel) which brings in contaminants as well as the combustion that creates many other byproducts. The engine oil filter is designed to filter these products out.
Many transmission manufacturers use only a screen on the fluid pickup to filter out any casting flaws or debris that could be poured down the dipstick. Some manufacturers do not recommend changing the filter.
The fluid will break down and needs to be changed, the filters do not plug up on a healthy transmission.

Like Irage said, go for a Lancer EX or a Civic FD4.
Both got ol' school conv.auto transmissions and are rock solid - plus you'll get a newer one for the same amount.

Not sure if the chinese ELM27 has necessary protocols for your vehicle's ECU (they doesn't have the protocols for OBDII standard JDM vehicles either) But communication lights should turn on when you connect to ELM27 using your smartphone/tablet using bluetooth - then it'll say it can't scan your vehicle if it's not supported

Why not? They're not going to go away anytime soon. It's one of the largest independent automobile manufacturers in China and owns Volvo.
Granted the vehicles imported here are not the most reliable ones but the brand is not gonna vanish from SL market like Micro's other imports like Gonow or Hafei.
I completely forgot Ssangyongs btw - should've included that too

That's how Micro operates.
The first van sold by Micro was made by Hafei (Hafei Zhongyi) and badged by Micro. The current generation is made by Gonow (Gonow Way). The problem with this kind of pettah-pavement hawker approach is there is no proper product life-cycle, long term availability of parts, continuous improvement of the knowledge of service staff and the stagnation of the second hand market of the product.
Yup. Geely is the only proper brand Micro imports to SL

Anyhoo they have ceased importing Lancers for good it seems - they removed the Lancer from their website as well

This car in question is a 1500, YOM is 2009 I believe (not exactly clear). AFAIK there was a cvt varient available and this car has a manumatic gearbox, does this mean it's cvt? The guage cluster is also different than the rest of the cars I have seen, it has black backgrounds with white writing.
If it's cvt are these gearboxes common and how should the maintenance be handled?
He is concerned about gearbox availability in the long run since he plans to keep the car for around 5 years.
AFAIK Agent didn't import CVTs. If this is a grey import chances are the engine is to be a GDI which is a big no-no in SL
