  3. Did your parts supplier provide you a split pin (also called Cottor pin) as shown above in Davy's post????? if not, you need to get one maby Rs 30/= or so.. you can use a normal common nail to to mesure the thickness of the hole in the threaded shaft. the nail can be used as a sample to get the correct size. a common iron nail can also be used as atemporary solution in an emergency if the split pin has broken and fallen off . buy some extras they will always come in handy .
  4. Splendid reply Davy. Thank you. I think I can afford to fabricate a frame and yes the wood cardle will sure doo come in handy for transportation. I think I can add wheels to the frame and make it maneuverable.. also I could add ACROW screws jacks to adjust the hight. WONDERFUL ..... I hope to do a DIY post on this. Thank you once again Davy, your much appriciated.

  12. Dear Friends, If I were to split an engine and if I cannot afford an engine stand must I fabricate a simple durable frame or can it be don on the floor on wood pallets or something. Has anyone experienced such a situation. How do mechanics normally mount and prepare an engine before a rebuild. I wonder if the engine block is mounted to be flipped either side or is the engine block elevated with some hoist while the rebuild is done? Lot of good discussions and details about engine rebuilds but very less information on how the engine is laid for the rebuild.

  21. This triggered a story in my mind. once when my Dad was driving a motorbike he saw a line of broken wheel nuts on the road and 15m in front was a loud bang the wheel of a Leyland lorry that was driving fast on the road had come out. Many people were excited and came to help. It was a break bound issue as the friction produced immense heat that heated the rim and hub, cracking the wheel nuts off by expansion leading the wheel to fly off. many experienced skin burns after touching the very hot wheel rim and wheel nuts that had fallen along the road. I think you are very lucky. recently I changed my wheel cylinders on my test drive I touched and inspected my steel rims for any heat to identify and friction by unwanted rub. In any situation if you hear any strange sounds coming from your wheel the first thing to do is to touch and check for heat on rims to identify any friction before going ahead. I hope you find a good honest mechanic who can fix it all up. Take care
