Dear AL Friends, There is a Toyota Hilux that has a 3”x 3” corrosive damage and a developing small crack on the chassis (Chassis location - at the center region straight line down from where the rear door hinges are mounted) does anyone know the technical procedure to get this job done? I figured out that MIG welding a plate would do (instead of ARC welding) but controlling and removing the rust is questionable. must I cut and remove the corroded region or must I just MIG weld the plate over the damaged surface???? Any ideas and advice would be very much of help. I would be also very grateful if someone would recommend a chassis specialist in Colombo who will be able to get the job done. Yes Davy you are right... kerosene is the main killer for all rubber parts and packing's also oil seals. And our local car wash and service lads use kerosene openly or in secret, diluting it with the recommended chemical (I don't know what its called). Regarding the hose clamps there is a debating issue Screw band ( A ) or wire clamp ( B ). some say wire clamps cut the hose but originally Japanese vehicles come with wire clamps for the radiator hose???

Does anyone know the chemical or detergent used at service stations, to remove greasy grime and mud under vehicles???? I see them spraying this wonder stuff and with a wash off its all clean.. I want to stay away from kerosene a secret ingredient used by most service stations. So I plan to wash my vehicle by myself. Thanks in advance

Wonderful Maersk, that was very informative. Yes the 2ton chain bloc is very bulky and heavy. The one ton (1 Ton) chain bock may be manageable. I hope to work on a Toyota 3L, Perkins 3A.125, Nisan LD20ii, engines tat are heavy ones... I got to know that a chain block can also be used to winch out vehicle in “stuck in the mud “situation… I wonder are the Made in China ones good? Greetings AL members, I am on the hunt to buy a “Chain block hoist” this hoist will sure be helpful to lift the engine I plan to rebuild. Is there anything I should consider any buying tip you could share? In the local market I came across Chinese chain blocks that are brand new; and Japanese ones that are used in Kurunegala (too far far away.....) I hope to go for a two ton (2T) chain hoist??? Any one experienced in using Chain Blocks ???? Please be kind enough to share info. May I know where about in Colombo I could buy one??? Thank you..

Dear Friends, does anyone know where I could buy Plastigauge to measure crankshaft journal clearance. “Plastigauge” may be new to many but I am sure this stuff will help in a successful engine rebuild. Thank you...:)

Hi Davy, the picture you have attached above is also helpful to find TDC in the rebuild process, as when the oil pan is removed the wooden stand gives a good clearence when rotating the crank shaft ot find top dead center. thanks for all you help.
