  1. Are you on drugs mate? Wtf are you talking? Average speed is 12, more time on road, no FCY in the country, and on top of that you want evey lankan to go for an environmental friendly hybrid. Jeesh man.....
  2. Why don't you just sell the vitz buy the 6 and bugger off?? I sense a car dealer trying to create a hype and then pay 800 bugs and post an advert in AL....
  3. Crosswind, yes. Will visit the agent for the atf change since 40k mark is near by. During the inspection, service advisor recomended to do an engine tune up and to replace the plugs. Since there is not much of a price difference, shall I buy the plugs from the agent it self? He also recomended to replace front break pads. Since I dont want to take a risk and wait for e-bay parts to arrive, thinking of buying the break pads also from the agent. Also today I noticed that part of the steering (near the break pedals) are visible like an old lorry. Is this unusual?
  4. Hi Crosswind, I bought the Focus. Thnaks for your advice.
  5. Back then i can remember having one of those detectors in our car (1998). That perticular unit was brought down from UK. It will work fine if only a speed gun is used as you will have a small window to reduce the speed. But if a camera is also used to capture the image, then it will be too late. (I have not personally seen one in action though)
  6. Exactly. Also if the robbers are so confident that you store your entire wealth inside your house, they can simply poison the dog and enter the premises.
  7. A CCTV system is like icing on the cake if you already have a burglar alarm system (door and window sensors) with few outdoor motion sensors. This will keep the intruders away as they will know you have a system in place with one or two siren triggers. But by only having a CCTV system, a person can come to your property in the night (example: fully covered helmet), do his thing and walk away. Just my opinion.......
  8. Yes. I too noticed gear changes at the rpm range you have mentioned. I must be so used to the CVT (nearly 5 years) and EPS. Due to this, steering in Focus was felt a bit stiff too. May be due to hydraulic steering I guess. Any way only thing which holds me back is the colour of the car (White) Thanks Crosswind for all the info and will keep you posted.
  9. Hi Crosswind. Had to pull this tread to pop in my questions. Drove a 2010 focus few dyas back. 1) As you said, accelaration from idol is very slugish. Also first gear change happens after 3 to 4 seconds. It may be beacuse i'm a slow driver. Is it a defect of the car or is it normal? 2) Known owner of a Ranger in the same era stated that Ford's are prone for electronic malfunctions. Is it true? 3) Any other things to look out for?

PL, alloy wheels matches the car well and makes it stand out. Let's see how long you ill own this ride. :-)
  11. Asking prices are way too high these days. Even people who feared Honda and were using the good old Toyota's are now giving up there brand loyalty. Once I went to check a FD1 and the person who came before me (again a Toyota fan in a 121) saw me,paniced, did not check the car properly (damaged tail light and rear fender), no scanning or inspection at the agents, ...... Just took it on a test drive with the owner and visited the nearest ATM to withdraw cash to pay an advance. So i came home empty handed. This is the current hype on the FD series. Avoid car dealers. Saw an Advert in the quick site quoting 33.75 for a manual fd4. If I'm correct, I can recall the same car was earlier advertised by the previous owner for LKR 3.1 Mil
  12. Not an expert. But my 2 cents. Firstly, forget the gifts. It's cheap marketing stategy. Will your kid have any benefit out of a bag/mug/bike etc when reached 18 years? My suggestions.... 1) Example: If your salary is 100K, try saving LKR 5000/= monthly basis in a kids savings account in a stable bank at least with a Fitch ratting of AA- (Assuming the rate of interest is 5% per annum the balance after 18 years may be LKR 1.7 Million. You can use the follwing link to do the calculation) http://www.thecalculatorsite.com/finance/calculators/savings-calculators.php 2) Approach a stable & customer friendly insurance service provider & sign up for a Kids education / investment plan. This will give a return after 18 years but will continue to fund the policy in case when the policy holder meets with an unforseen event. There are options to obtain an immediate fund in case of an emergency & after the policy matures upon child reaching 18 years. Discuss with an experienced insurance advisor & make sure you understand T&C well. 3) Obtain a personal / familly life insurance if you have not obtained already. This will be usefull in the event of an emergency or if you need to fund the wedding of your kid, give as a dowry to your daughter or for higher education. Edit: Diversify your investments. Do not stick to one option. Have differnt options to cover long term & short term financial needs.
  13. Hi CS. I assume you own a santafe (can remember seeing some of your old posts sometime back) A quick question about the santafe. Even The agents claim that the santafe diesel version which came out in 2008-2009 era needs an engine overhaul at least once in 80,000 KM. is this statement true? Even couple of owners stated the same issue.
  14. Was that you driving to MIT?
  15. Consequences of dropping the vehicle tax by the previous regime.
  16. Will you visit the local dispencery for a heart surgery? Don't be penny wise and rupee foolish. Go to the agents at least for the timing belt change. If things go wrong, you they can be held responsible.
  17. Dude, you have answered your own question/discussion in the last paragraph. Also I assume you must be aware that CPC is still running at a loss.
  18. Do I smell Cali back in the forum under a new name or is it a car importer or a combination of both?
  19. If a C class 2014 Merc is brought down & offered at the range of 5 Mil, then all these Vezi & Axio Hybrids wil forget the Fuel & will rasie hands to the German.
  20. Did I mention that I don't drive a Hybrid?
  21. News for me. So Staff Transport busses / vans are "like fish in a tin" which comes from Kotte & they still charge a premium price? Also there is a simple theory of leave home early & reach office early. May be an option of Flexi hours will also come handy. CMC should stop fixing meters & start charging fares as soon a vehicle enter CMC limits. People who are so concered about the economy buy Hybrids & drive to work. May be the Finance minister should issue permits to all Private sector emplyees as well.
  22. Why 95% of new car hunters choose a Hybrid 1) Hype 2) Cheap
  23. For sure the 1800cc engine helps to achive the said numbers.
