  1. Replace the battery on the key and try. Can the car be locked while the intelligent key is inside??? At least in the Nissan Teana it cannot be done. With the intelligent key inside if the lock button on the door handle is touched from the outside three beeps sound and the doors will not lock.
  2. Because.......it's Sylvi!!!! Sense or no sense any posting from Sylvi gets marked down!
  3. I had a 96 Maruti 800 and it returned 22kmpl going up to N'Eliya. I believe it's an icon similar to the "great" Mini. Both were cars which were laughed off and scoffed at.
  4. Thanks iRage, Watchman and Hoonigan for that feedback. Appreciate it, Hope I get a further insight from other A/L members domiciled across the globe! .
  5. Guys, I know in SL there is a big clamour and fever to jump in the hybrid bandwagon, just wondering how it is in other parts of the world?????? Here in NZ hybrids aren't as popular as in SL. How is it in other countries??????
  6. Try the Norachcholai area ought to get it very cheap there.
  7. Easiest way is have a peek at the speedo. The Jap models (JDMs) have a speedo marked upto 180kmph. The Singapore models ( which are the export models) have it upto 260kmph. ( assuming the speedos have not been swapped!)
  8. Sylvi, Wouldn't you agree that silence is golden,...... unless one is 110% sure that breaking that silence would be a positive contribution????? Just give it some thought.
  9. So then you can rule out any speedo errors due to tyre/rim sizes. What were the simultaneous readings given by the scanner and the speedo? BTW I am no expert!!
  10. You need to display a red "L" on a white background in the front and rear of the bike which must be visible to other motorists from at least 10 feet away. You do not need a pillion rider who has a DL to ride with you. Your Learner Permit must be carried with you at all times when riding.
  11. I have owned/driven four tiptronic vehicles ( three Mitsubishis and one Nissan) and did not feel any delay in engaging in any of them. However it does not give the same feel as having full control with a clutch and a manual shift, there is definitely a bit of a compromise but not as bland as a fully automatic.
  12. A cool ebay gadjet and a "must have" for driving in Sri Lanka http://www.ebay.com/itm/HD-1080P-Dash-Car-DVR-Cam-Vehicle-Camera-IR-LED-Night-Vision-Blackbox-GS1000-New-/131079108811?pt=US_Surveillance_Digital_Video_Recorders_Cards&hash=item1e84ec78cb
  13. I prefer driving manuals but not on traffic congested roads such as Galle Road specially morning rush and evening rush!!! I hate driving automatics out in the country specially for overtaking manouvers and driving in the hill-country where I want the gear changes directly under my command. So striking a balance, having the best of both worlds?????.....tiptronic!!!!!
  14. Are you running on the stock tyre size 135/80 and 12' rims the Jap Alto (HA23S) has???? A change in rim size and tyre size can make your speedo go bonkers. Check these links to see as to how off your speedo could go with the wrong size of tyre and rim. http://www.willtheyfit.com/ http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator However indicating 105 on the police camera when you say you were doing 70 very likely suggests a common police trick!! The police sometimes resort to dubious tactics as they are required by their superiors to book a given number of prosecutions for the time they are out on the field. This reflects on their personal performance for promotions etc etc.So they cop some one over the limit and have that recorded on their camera and thereafter without resetting the camera they use that to cop who ever comes by and the gullible simply accept it just like that without challenging them or talking back!!! . You seem to have been a victim of this scam. This can be challenged in court and has been challenged in court and people have got off ( personal experience) but the vast majority either "strike a deal" with the cops or simply pay the fine and avoid litigation.
  15. I know of an incident in a AE91 Corolla hatchback , where some incompetent makabaas had taken apart the gear box for some repair and had assembled it back. Then the owner ( a friend of mine) had found that it shudders in second gear and struggles to pick up. The problem had been that when assembling the gear box back together the makabaas had made some mistake and when the gear lever seemingly moves into second in fact inside the box the gear wheels were moving into fourth gear and that explained the shuddering and struggle to pickup!!
  16. Why not???? There would be Himin Lanka flights from Katu to Maththala for the races ( may be even at subsidised rates!!!)
  17. Mr Pain?????!!!! What a name!!! Hope its not a "Pain in the Ar5e"!!!!
  18. The best thing to save fuel is not to start the engine.
  19. Wonder why it needed another 1ltr of ATF after just 2000kms!? Could it be that there were issues with the AT and that the previous owner got it repaired but then preferred to sell it off for obvious reasons???? Anyway I am no expert as to even speculate as to what could exactly be the matter inside the AT box. May be as nano31 has mentioned it's the O-rings. (Touchwood! ) I have had no experience with an AT repair so far, so cannot comment on who would be ideal other than the agent. However for engine tune-ups I have always taken the vehicle to the agent ( whatever the vehicle) and have had absolutely no complaints as they have all the service manuals, exact specs etc etc and any special tools that may be necessary.
  20. Don't worry he seems to be coming around. The media camped around the hospital has been chased away by his wife after one smart chap disguised himself as a priest and tried to get in to his room to snap a few photos!!!! Ingenious isn't it????
  21. I had a 2002 EA7A 2ltr Viento model with the GDI engine and the INVECS II sport mode 4 speed AT. However it was not used in Sri Lanka. IMO It drove good with adequate power. Very steady and reasonably quiet even at speeds of 150kmph. Did around 10kmpl in city driving ( not as congested as city roads in Colombo though) and returned around 14kmpl cruising at 100-130kmph intercity. I doubt getting those figures even on a 1.8 Galant in Sri lanka. They are quite popular here in NZ specially the VR4 2.5ltr twin turbo V6 and the Legnum (Station Wagon) versions which I don't think are seen on Sri Lankan roads In Sri lanka where petrol consumption is THE main concern to many when buying a car, the Galant has lost out to various other smaller and economical models and trying to get rid of a Galant may pose problems. On current trends, if I am not mistaken, you should be able to get one for around 1.5m. Try and avoid the GDI engine as in SL there is a phobia towards GDI engines. In Sri Lanka the police had quite a few of them being used by DIGs and the mobile units. I don't think they had the GDI engines. All in all IMO it's a good car though may be not considered so in SL.
  22. The manufacturer recommended tyre pressure for the vehicle is usually found in the owner's manual and on the B pillar on the driver's side or on the driver's door frame . I know of an SUV which has 265/70/15 tyres and the recommended pressure is 26psi ( 1.7bar / 179 KPa). The manufacturer recommended pressure for a particular car which I know of having 205/65/15 tyres is 31psi ( 2.2 bar / 220KPa). Many people have said that 26 is way too low and not enough for that size of vehicle and 265/70/15 tyre and that 35-40 is the ideal.(pundits knowing more than the manufacturer!!) This I feel is because these "experts" have no idea what "psi" is and they feel it's the total weight of air inside the tyre. The rear tyres of a Massey Furguson 240 tractor measuring 13.6x28, takes in only 10psi!!! While the tyres measuring 54x21.0-23 of an Airbus A330 requires a pressure of 200psi!!! The psi (pounds per square inch) is not the weight of all the air inside a tyre rather the pressure within one square inch inside the tyre. Contrary to popular belief, tyre pressure is not determined by the type of tyre or its size but upon the vehicle's load and driving application i.e. speed which many have absolutely no idea of. Please correct me experts if I am wrong.
  23. Did you get the ATF changed at the service or do you know when the ATF was last changed? If no, get the ATF changed ASAP and see if the shifting problem goes away. If it doesn't then there is definitely a problem with your AT. Usually ATF has to be changed every 25,000-30,000kms as recommended by most manufacturers. Neglect this and you would soon have a deep fried AT. Also, once you manage to get it into D are the shifts down and up smooth or do you sense any thuds or jerks? The handbrake light coming on could be due to many things, start of by opening the brake fluid reservoir and check whether the float is stuck. Once this happened to me and when I opened the cover I found the float inside was stuck so I rectified it and I closed the cover and the light went off. It could also be that your brake pads/shoes need replacement or it could even be a defective handbrake switch. Your fuel consumption seems a bit strange keeping in mind that it usually drops by about 2-5kms in stop and go city traffic compared to long continuous runs in most vehicles. Is the engine in perfect tune? ie. After a few minutes idling @RPM 750-900 on a morning cold start do you get water dripping from the exhaust? The inside of the exhaust end should be free from heavy carbon deposits and is usually a light greyish color. If so the engine would be in perfect tune and you need not worry much about it, but if you have thick black carbon deposits in the exhaust line and you also experience rough idling with missing and jerking accompanied by a strong smell of petrol then I would reckon a tune up is due with new plugs filters etc etc and you would see an improvement in the fuel consumption figures. Hope my two cents worth helps
  24. Sounds like a fried auto box. As you have not done an ATF change do that ASAP and see if the problem goes away. If it goes away consider yourself lucky. If it remains....... ATF must be changed at least every 25,000- 30,000kms going by the recommendations of most manufacturers. As for the vibration, very likely the mounts, so get those checked first before probing deeper.
  25. There have been instances where the frauds and cheats manning service bays at many service stations "recondition" old oil filters removed from vehicles by washing them in kerosene oil and then palm them off to gullible customers on the pretext that they are new. Could this be an instance????
