  1. UPDATE: Got it checked from P*tco Lanka,Narahenpita. This has happened due to a rat attack! A rat has damaged a wire from the reverse cam to the set up. Had to rewire it and then it starts working fine. The cost was only Rs. 2,500/-. They said the SD card is not needed here, only it will need if the main 12V battery is changed and the setup is reset.
  2. Thanks a lot @iRage and @HaeylM... Those information are valuable. Now I can see the big picture here. Let’s see. Will update here once get this done.
  3. Yes, the car is from Japan and it has the original factory fitted system NSZT-Y66T. It has a slot for the micro SD card, which has the navigation system and the software. I got to know normally car sale mudalalis are selling this to car stereo shops. Without the SD card, reverse cam and radio is working. But you cannot go to settings or use other functions. A shop guy said once the 12V main car battery is changed, the reverse cam and other basic functionalities will again stop working. So either you need to buy a SD card or pay some cash around 3,000 bucks to restore the settings with them using (borrowing) their SD card.
  4. @sathyajithj99 - It’s the original factory fitted setup.
  5. I’m using a Toyota C-HR 2017 car with mileage just above 23,000 km. This car I bought from a local car sale as a reconditioned car from a Japan auction around 1 year ago. I got an issue - suddenly reverse camera stopped working. When I put it to the reverse gear, reverse lights are getting on, but the reverse cam video is not coming on the display. Not even the blank screen. There is no any change in the display. (Update: this is the original factory fitted setup). After taking it to a near by car setup shop, all wiring and connections were checked but no issues were there with wiring or connections. The shop technician said it may due to some settings changes. But I did not touch any settings. BTW, he also said he needs the SD Card came with the car. Otherwise he cannot navigate to settings. But I did not get the SD card and extra key when I purchase the car from the car sale as the car sale mudalali told me that they didn’t receive an extra key or SD card for this car and those might have misplaced. The car audio guy said that car sale owners are not giving those to the customers but extra keys and SD cards are selling to these shops. Please provide your advice with below 3 questions. (1) How/ why this reverse cam settings can suddenly be changed even without touching by me? (2) Isn’t there any way to change the settings without a SD card? (3) If above no 2 question is not possible, please let me know a good place to visit nearby Colombo/ Nugegoda area. Thank you in advance for your time and advice...
  6. Since rats came into the picture - any of you have used Liqui Moly Marderspray (attached a pic) to keep away rats? One of my friends told that a car service place recommended this to spray to the engine bay, tires and bottom of the engine bay area once in 14 days to keep rats away. But he didn’t buy it and was using the rat kill cubes. Is using this spray effective? Or are there any risks of this to the engine parts? If anyone has used/ using this please share your experience/ thoughts.
  7. Thanks @iRage I also like it without any additional body kit and unnecessary bells & whistles. No intention of doing any modifications. BTW, anyone can please explain what is the small liver/ switch like thing below the dashboard and steering wheel (left side) of the C-HR? Attached pics. I tried to search and find what’s that in owners manual and on Google but couldn’t. Curios to know what is that and the functionality/ usage of that.
  8. @matroska - YOM is 2017 and mileage just below 18,000 km. It was 6.25 mil when I bought around 3 weeks ago (little bit exceeded my budget).
  9. Thanks @vag2 @iRage - Hope I can use these tyres for another couple of years (~ 20,000 km more as current odo is just around 17,500 km) without a major risk/ issue? BTW, when should I start my full service? Wait till the odo hits 20,000 km (will take slightly more than 2 months)?
  10. Update: Bought the C-HR. Thank you everyone for helping with your advises and opinions. Attached some pics while he is waiting for his number plates to be fixed
  11. Update: Bought the C-HR. Will post some pics in other thread. Thank you everyone for advising and share opinions...
  12. Attached a couple of pics of tyres to see those small cracks.
  13. Thanks @iRage for explanations. Regarding tyre cracks - Those are not visible until you peep near the tyre and carefully observed. Yes they are slightly above the tyre walls - the angeled/ curved edge between the tyre wall and the outside Tyre surface. That area not touching the ground. But those crack like things are merely visible (tiny/ hairline like). I thought it’s due to the tyre is getting old (almost 3 years). (I saw this while when I try to determine the tyre wear out in order to guess the true mileage in case of odometer tampering. Tyre wear out ratio seems to be ok when I compare with my previous car’s tyres. Those also Bridgestone tyres and those were there for around 4 years with 40,000+ km riding. But didn’t experienced that tiny crack like things - may be I did not observe.)
  14. Update: I got the manual verification report from https://jpcenter.ru/ It's tally with the auction sheet given and seems there are no issues except a minor scratch in the body. Car's photos are ok. There is a small comment on comments section, when translate it Google translator shows it as "body kiss", don't know what is that ☺️ (attached that image for just reference marked with red squares). While inspecting the car no doubts were there except, - Bridgstone tyre edges had little hairline fractures like tiny cracks (can be ignored). The sale guy said those are due to the temperature difference in Japan's winter season and here while idle for few weeks - All 4 wheels are alloy wheels and I noticed little bit of dust like rusts on the inner area of alloy wheels. He said that also normal. (I have noticed in this my previous car too, when it idles for few days this little rusty dust is coming and once washed they go away). Hope this also normal.
  15. 2 more things while I’m in the process of checking the C-HR. (1) When I searched on the jpcenter.ru with the chassis number by paying 10$ it was not found. So I paid another 10$ and requested a manual search report. It will take 24 hours. Is this a normal case or any strange thing? (2) When I checked the engine compartment of the C-HR, behind the coolant tank (in front of the drivers side windscreen) 3 black color sealant/ glue like patches noticed as in below image (circled with red color) When I asked seller said those are coming from the factory. Can anyone/ CH-R owner please confirm on this?
  16. Hi @iRage BTW, got to know a JAAI Certificate is not available for this car and instead of Bureau Veritas Certificate is available, - Is this ok/ any issue? - How to verify whether Bureau Veritas Certificate is the original? Hope you can help here...
  17. Hi, In case JAAI Certificate is not available instead of Bureau Veritas Certificate is available, - Is this ok? - How to verify whether Bureau Veritas Certificate is the original?
  18. Thanks @iRage for quick reply. The CHR is an AWD. Verify auction sheet - You meant do it online thru https://jpcenter.ru/reports by paying 10 $? Or is there another way to verify?
  19. Thanks a lot @ghostwriter and @Hyaenidae... very useful info.
  20. Hi, I was using few cars during last few years and now planning to go for a crossover. My budget is 6 mil (max 6.2). Currently evaluating brand new zero mileage KIA Stonic Ex luxury package against Toyota C-HR GT 2017 reconditioned less than 20,000 km on odometer. KIA Stonic: Possible buy as of now. Went there and took a test drive (Ex grade with luxury package, which has leather interior). Satisfied about the features, comfort and the look and feel for the price they offer (5.5 mil). There might be some pros (5 year agent warranty) and cons (DCT/ GDI). Still this may be a good buy. But the Stonic got only normal cruise control. Not adaptive cruise control or safely features like auto brake/ radar brake etc. The agent doesn’t bring Stonic safety edition to SL. Therefore decided to look at a C-HR within my budget. Toyota C-HR: Managed to find a 2017 GT version with around 15,000 km on the odo. for 6.2 mil. This C-HR got safety features such as radar brake, adaptive cruise control etc. and interior quality is good. Which one would be the ideal one to buy considering the reliability and resale value? If I buy an imported used car from a car sale what precautions should I follow and what kind of checks should I do? Thank you for your valueable advices and opinions as always...
  21. Updates: Thank you all for your valuable responses. Those were really useful. During past few weeks I took time, observed the market and had some test drives too. Below are the findings as of now Hyundai Venue: OUT. Since it's made in India and Not met my preferences. MG ZS: OUT. Visited their showroom and had a test drive. Car and ride was nice. Interior quality and comfort / space batter than I expected (except for few areas). But considering the future uncertainty on resale and reliability had to exclude this nice car even I was so attached to it. Toyota Raize: OUT. Couldn’t manage a test drive, but visited a car sale and took a look. When considering the price tag (Z grade is going around 6.5 mil) it’s overpriced. Many car sales said they don’t have stock but can order for the next shipment. When looking at the interior quality it’s below the expectations and looks & feels cheap. BUT, as the Raize is out from the picture, for the same budget (6 mil, max 6.2) Toyota C-HR is coming into the picture to evaluate against the Stonic. This is mainly due to the C-HR got safety features such as radar brake, adaptive cruise control etc. KIA does not bring the Stonic safety edition to SL market, so we will get only normal cruise control and reverse sensors. Now the comparison is between a brand new 2019/ 2020 KIA Stonic Ex vs unregistered (reconditioned) Toyota C-HR 2017 GT (with safety package). (As main context of this thread is diverting, I will open a new thread for this).
  22. Hi, We know these days there are a lot of scams going on in vehicle market, specially by many car sale guys (specially when selling unregistered cars imported from Japanese auctions). How can we check whether an auction sheet shown by a car sale person is an original or a fake? How to verify the details on that auction sheets are correct if it is the original sheet? (We know we can verify whether JAAI Certificate is the original by sending an email to JAAI and verify the mileage. But I’m not familiar with auction sheets.) Thanks for your valuable advice/ opinion on this.
  23. Hi, I’m intending to go for a small crossover as my next car (currently using a 2010 Toyota Belta). Initially thought about going for a brand new zero mileage one and I was started looking at the Toyota Raize, MG ZS, Kia Stonic and Hyundai Venue. I’m planning to use it for next 5 years and my normal usage is around 1000 km per month - generally daily office drive in Colombo and very rarely outstation. Resale value, reliability, maintainability and the condition of the vehicle after 5 years (with the odometer around 70,000 km) are my main concerns. Fuel consumption is not a major issue - if it is doing above 8 kmpl in city limit is sufficient (I guess the MG ZS is doing around that). Rest of the aspects (safely, features etc.) are more or less the same for above 4 vehicles I guess. I have budget up to 6 million, but now planning to invest on a small block of land by saving some cash and minimize the loss on resale due to depreciation considering future expenses. Now I’m further thinking about below 2 options (may be in a dilemma). (1) Go for a 2020 Toyota Raize G grade for around 5.7 mil. (2) Go for a 2019 used MG ZS with around 12,000 km on odometer for around 4.6 mil. What would be the total cost of ownership and the resale value of above 2 after 5 years with around 70,000 km on the odometer? Which one is the most advisable option considering my requirement (resale value after 5 years)? Thank you in advance for your valuable opinion... PS: One of my friends suggested me to stretch my budget a bit and go for a used/ second hand 2017 C-HR. But I personally don’t like that car due to the rear look and lesser space/ leg room/ head room for rear seat passengers and gloomy interior gue to small rear windows.
  24. Thanks @Quiet. Yes, I think better to wait a little until the market got to know about this.
