  1. Mileage is just a number. Go by the condition of the car and make sure all the preventive maintenance is done on time.

Imagine two identical brand new cars bought by two executives living in Kottawa. One works in Galle and the other works in Colombo Fort. If both use the car to travel to work daily on weekdays for 2 years, the car travelling to Galle will have 100000 mostly expressway miles while the other car will have only 20000 miles. If both were maintained according to the schedule, used for its intended purpose and no major accidents, guess which one will have less wear and tear (other than the tires) and be in better overall condition.

What do you mean by Vitz is more comfortable but not as good as swift/demio when it comes to handling?

Comfortable means better suspension and interior quality?

And does Vitz 1000cc model has higher vibration due to 3 piston engine design?

And is it true Vitz 1300cc is more fueld efficient than 1000cc model, cause 1000cc model has to run on higher RPM most of the time.

Vitz has softer suspension set up making it more comfortable for the passengers. The downside of this is relatively poor handling. Interior depends on the grade.

You may notice more vibration in the 3 cylinder vitz when idling but its hardly noticeable when on the move or if you rev up a bit.

The 1.0 will be more fuel efficient around town and cruising on the expressway. Outstation it depends on how you drive. If you drive like a granny the 1.0 will still be more efficient. If you prefer a spirited drive the 1.3 will be better.

  3. Just see whether it does 14-17kmpl outstation on open roads as suggested by hrm. Fuel consumption in city is dependent more on how bad the traffic is and can easily drop to 8 kmpl if you sit in traffic for a long time. In Colombo traffic it sometimes takes 1 hour to cover 5km. Just running the engine uses up fuel you know and the accessories and stop & go nature is not kind on fuel economy.

  4. Did you check the fuel efficiency on open roads or on the expressway? 8kmpl can be normal if you sit in traffic for a long time but on the expressway or outstation you should be able to achieve upwards of 14kmpl depending on your driving habits.

By the way, I wonder how a 2011 car got imported in 2019 when there is a restriction of 3 years from the date of manufacture/registration to import a car to SL.

  5. It may be normal if you sit in traffic for a long time. For example if you take around 2 hours to do 20km in the city, your engine is running powering the AC and accessories consuming petrol even though you don't get any mileage. Better to take her on a trip on open roads and see or do a expressway run and see whether she does about 16kmpl. My guess is the car would be doing 16 kmpl on the expressway and 6 kmpl in heavy traffic to return an average of 11 kmpl.

You can drive in the UK on the SL license for up to 12 months after arrival. Use that time to brush up on passing the UK driving test and theory as it is not a cakewalk unlike in Sri Lanka.

You can't use the license after 12 months and I would not push my luck on that (although I know people have in the past) as the police database and UK immigration database is now linked and they can immediately check whether you are past the 12 months. It is good to have an international license issued by the AA but not mandatory. Also if you are planning to buy a car on the SL license the insurance will be somewhat or much higher (it will anyway be high on a new UK license, although that quickly drops off if you are aged over 30). All the best.

Yes you can drive for 12 months with the SL license.

As for the insurance, my premium went up after getting the UK license as my SL license was held for 18 years where as my UK license was new and they could enter only one license details in their system! Therefore, technically I was a new driver after getting the UK license, hence the higher premium.

  7. As the scratch is linear with a width of no more than a couple of millimeters, you don't need a spray paint which can be very messy if not done properly. The ones you found online should be fine.

As for colour matching, the results may not be perfect as pearl white is very difficult to match and the density of the pigment/particles will be different.

I have had excellent results with silver colour cars with both genuine Nissan touch up paint on a Nissan and something cheap off aliexpress matched to the color code on a Toyota.

As it is a small scratch and you are likely to pick up these in sri Lanka traffic best thing is to just touchup as best as you can and learn to ignore it. After all even if you do the whole buffer, it may end up being slightly different to the rest of the car.

  8. The following was copied from an email sent by Toyota technical/customer service to a customer in UK

    1) Root cause of the misfire was due to a circuit inside the ignitor being contaminated in production. Counter measured with a change in production operation.
    2) This issue will not reoccur, as modified coil packs have been fitted.
    3) No investigation is outstanding on your car's misfire issue.
    4) Ongoing investigation for carbon build up on low speed driving vehicles and short trips is ongoing but not relevant to your vehicle.'

  9. Haven't personally used them but the company is one of the few companies that make tires for aircrafts as well. They make tyres for Boeing 737 apparently. So hopefully not too bad.

  10. What is the car make and model?

The manufacturers have tried to idiot proof these systems in most modern cars and the gears will only engage if it is in the appropriate speed and RPM range and not just because some bloke wants to shift for the sake of shifting.
