Thanks for the support everyone.
So the prices have seem to shot up again this week because the unregs are up by 1mil and the beaters are up by 0.5 mil.
Spotted a 57- Hiace LH102 thats been converted to a 3L engine and full super custom conversion. Has some issues. So looks like I’m a Hiace convert now. Welp

Did a camping tour to Hulangala on Sunday, its amazing how far the small Alto will take you where some so called SUV's bottom out.
-
Had one in 2015 (14.25 bnew… good times)
Thing was plucky. Could really shame a lot of crossovers. Ground clearance was almost suvish. Prado who?! 😅
I even took one up a rock in kekirawa next to a big lake, and I almost left it there because I drowned and almost didn’t make it.
Will post a pic sometime

2C Turbo - Yay or Nay?

Owning the Rexton for close to 10months having done close to 15k KM, I simply love daily driving it.
God knows why so much hatred towards Rextons. For me this is far more comfy than the sorento 2012 model (which my relation has).
-
@PerfMad Yes many places now take ssangyongs in. Well suvs have more running gear and such so it’ll be somewhat expensive over a car. But itself worth it with the crap roads, floods and all that other jazz.
Turbo diesels are fun stuff, them 3L DID Hilux cabs will tun circles around the sedans. But since they handle like crap they just roll around.

What's with the sudden influx of spammers? Can't we have one or two more moderators to get rid of them?

Coming to this forum on an off brings back memories. Memories of my past life!

@Gummybr he’s trying to help with the dollar crisis by destroying big pharma 😅

This one guy on the forum pushed me away from reliable Audi's, to extremely terrifying Peugeot's.
Now the man is trying to buy a March k11 and retire from the scene. And the scumbag is offering a 406 executive before he leaves.
Must be an NGO fella, trying to ruin a hela yakka-putha in Kadugannawa who just wants to drive a reliable car for once. You shall not have yo way mister.

Camry cools a bit too much on the highway o.0 should I be concerned?
If the temperature scale is from 0-100, normal/spirited driving means the temperature is at 45%, little below half, but I was cruising on the highway and it drops to like 25-30% -
At a point where I might have to do away with project cars/beaters/shitboxes and move onto a less-dramatic reliable second car on a budget - what does the A/L community suggest?

We had a 2010 kyron, 2009 Rexton ii and now a 2015 Tivoli diesel plus a 2017 Rexton W. All bought new. The rexton W actually was a replacement for the Lankan favorite prado 150 which we kinda hated.
Now the musso our uncle had many years ago was very harsh and unrefined. But the guy has a bus yard in Apura and the guy used to haul ass on them roads.
ssyangyongs are not bad vehicles.
1.They were kinda ugly, So that's one reason they never caught on globally.
2.Lankans expected them to be laksiri cars for cheap.
3. Micro quality of work(after-sales) was actually not bad, but they tend to treat the more expensive model owners better and leave the regular folk hanging.
4. Sales and marketing was not Micro’s strong suit. Salesperson’s were not bad really.
5. Lankan assembled variants had minor fit and finish issues.
6. Lankan made parts(33% of a vehicle) which included seats and exhaust kinda stuff was obviously worse than korean made. They did not fall off or anything. But seats tended to loose support over time. Surface rust on exhaust. Most of these were easily fixed or avoided if maintained right.
7. The merc engines on the earlier cars were super economical and fun to drive. But as expected expensive to fix.
8. Super diesel was an absolute must.
9. The 6 speed gearbox had issues. The tivoli and on started coming with the jap aisin which was much better.
10. Most imported were basic and kinda bland. So that made people turn away.
11. Better options for similar prices. Tbh kia and Hyundai had more options and looked better for similar money.
12. Ssanyongs dont get you laid. So people wanted more brand prestige.
13. korean cars were never high market anywhere in the world. Heard of - “Kia, too bad it’s a kia”
14.most were bought by real kunas and shitty government type fellas. So maintenance and perception was kinda low.
15. Most lankans are dumb and scared of life in general. They want a Toyota.
16. Maintenance was bit costly as cheap chinese parts weren’t a thing for these when Rexton came out. Also only the agent could work in it then. Now it’s just like the other brands. They certainly did not break down all the time. My pug has given me more issues than a geely we had. It’s about maintenance.
I guess I answered your question.
I always like it when the “herd” does not buy what I buy. More for us and better prices for us.
ade thats a long reply.

So carmart fked me up big time. Paint already bubbling and many other issues. Honestly is there anyone/business in this country that is honest and worth it?

@tiv actually most of these small timers seem to be installing booths now. Not sure if it’s up-to standard and such, still better than nothing.

I made up my mind to work on the car alone for most repairs. F that, still better than carmart. Plus pug parts are cheap in malaysia, which I’m gonna take advantage of.
Paint will also be done at the place I did my wheels. 5000 bucks and a gal arakku bothal motivated the painter to the point, he said he pay the money to get if done at a big box store if he screwed up. Will be done once I’m back in Lanka.

Added the google review I posted about these scum. Honestly too tired to even type or think about it. Was painted end of april after having the car for a month blaming Aurudu holidays.
Two months later it’s all messed up. Blames the “bad primer” they used. Not my fault, I paid top dollar for an oem paintjob at the authorised dealer. Honestly a guy under a mango tree would have done a much better job.
They wanted me to bring it back, which I refused. Too much stupidity and time wasted for me to be sure of a better job done.
I was the biggest advocate for not leaving the country(I said that after I came abroad and saw that life was not heaven as people like to portray) and have done so much to help its growth, but I’m just tired to be honest. Indalath ba gihillath ba.

I drove a 2013 Premio for 400km recently. It was the full works. G Superior Badge, Doctor Badge and an owner who kept on claiming it was the ideal car.
0-80% of the Throttle amounts to 0-20% of power and the last bit is where the rest of the powerband lies (more like nopowerband), it had a hard time keeping speed at 140 on a highway, but i will say the suspension is very pudgy and comfortable. Features wise it had the same stuff (sans Cruise Control, Auto Wipers) to my 9 year older car. Good fuel consumption though? -
5 mil. Hatchback. Fun. Manual is preferred. Not too low. Something newer. Fuel is not considered. Resale can kiss sirs arse. Open to euros not just jdm. Choose your weapon.

Thanks guys for the advices. There is an unregistered works for 6.65 million, which is not worth I think.
@Gummybr Every Suzuki I ever rented or used was utter garbage. We also had a recon 2006 Every van that was also just shit. Mostly the hatred is because of the Jeep model Swift. Now that’s just garbage ultra pro max.

Thanks for the advice guys. I usually hate Suzuki vehicles. But I’m actually pretty interested in an Alto RS works. Pretty rare and only about 5 made it here it-seems. Most of them are AWD, So there’s that at-least.
Also fun fact, the loaded RS turbo is cheaper than a base regular Alto. That turbo be scaring off the thel higanna types who buy these cars it seems.
Also on another thought thanks to @AVANTE. Buy a Kelisa 1.0 manual and do it up. Worth the effort? They go for about 2 mil. So almost 2.5 mil cheaper than a rs alto. Bit hard to compare agreed.
@matroska any insider details on what can be done to make a kelisa a hot hatch?
I’ve driven the auto and it was almost like driving a classic mini. But what can be done to make it more fun?

What does everyone here think of the new locally assembled Hyundai Grand i10?
-
It’s 8,888,888. Hope the salesmen homie pulls some strings together, hook me up and give me back my 2 rupees.
On a more serious note. If it were under 5.5 million, I would have really bought one as a shitbox for the paan kade runs.
But for this money, anyone who buys will vote the buttplug tower kings (kanda natat inda ratak epai malli) and lease it at 36%.
Edit. Why do I get the gut feeling they’re gonna be “palaweni car 100 deela iwarai sir. Discount na sir. Thawa watinwa sir baya nathuwa ganna.”
But at least all the posh namki’s at CCC with the high waist jeans and iphone 8 plus stuck on the back pockets will look lustily at you, bite their tongues and give you a backseat is fine ayyeh look. Worth it noh. Imagine the insta clout. All those thirsty DMs. I’ll even pay for the IG handle sticker on the rear door for the morons.

I like how there's a bentley steering wheel for sale in the ad section.

@tiv it’s true though isn’t it? I still see buggers with fancy stuff that needs a lot of $. So many super cars changing hands too. Do we even have a crisis? lol
