You're now stimulating the soft spot I had towards 508 but the premature engine wear and tear still keeping me away from that gen of Peugeots. Big mistake by reducing the pot capacity and trying to yank out more power.

Also this reminded me of a 607 which only had 16k on odo sometimes back and a guy had jumped in thinking it's a minter since low mileage. ended up fixing almost all the car due to various issues. Personally I don't prefer low mileage cars rather will go for decently driven yet well maintained specimens.

They are really nice cars. The 2015 3008 and the 508 really is above the 06/07 series.Electronics are the main let down tbh.

The 2.0 Diesel version is actually very solid. Less issues overall compared to the petrol by a long shot. Owners hang on to them though. Very reliable and efficient on fuel.

The 1.6THP is troublesome, but the drive makes up for it. That creamy torque really makes it a blast. Just drove from Kalutara to Kandy, such a pleasure. Ate the hills up no problem. Key is to getting a rectified 1.6THP

Also it did 15kmpl on the freeway. 100kmph smooth driving.

Your advice and input on Pugs are very much appreciated. After all you were the resident Peugeot guru on AL!!!

  2. Another price update (508 1.6thp)

    Engine bottom mounts-35,000

New solenoids and misc on starter motor-18,000. New motor is 100k plus.

A/C Blower unit- 50k as told. Will update.

Cooling fan- 105k. Got me a mint recon from dubai for 45k.

Mine is going through a full mechanical restoration due to being parked for months on end and a rat attack. Almost two months now. So far runs like a dream, Electronics are being looked into atm.

Please use a covered garage and never let it sit on rain when possible.

Also try to drive these cars as much as possible. Mine drove < 5000kms in 2022 and 800kms in 2023, that did not end well.

The more you drive the less it actually goes wrong. Guy I know has a 3008 with 25k thats a real leda goda, another fella with a 100k plus 3008 runs like a biatch.

Some parts mentioned were replaced for preventive maintenance.

quite reasonable considering cost of living these days. never looked at dealer except when getting some minor accident repairs for 407 and buying small bits and pieces (engine cover retainer clips and door window guide for 406 which was nowhere to be found). Test drove 508 back then but didn't move into, rather walked away from the brand.

Agreed not bad at all. The agents are absolute trash.

I remember reading that thread of you test driving one. Nice cars but can be finicky if neglected.

Thank you, I'm really happy I could grab hold of one!

It's still stock. I do have some sorta plan to get a cat-back exhaust later on, but it's definitely not higher up when it comes to priority. Still happy with the way it sounds now, while not really being attention grabbing.

This is on my list of to-do stuff, to get it upholstered/good seat covers in full leather. Will keep in mind, thanks!

Yep, I've read your 'French fries' blog posts somewhere down the line,  multiple times iirc. Ours is matched almost spec-to-spec with yours, if at all the biggest difference I could find is that the wheels on our 508 are painted in a much lighter shade (although the size and design seem to be the same)

I'm happy with how the person I mentioned earlier dealt with things, so I was intending to try and continue getting it checked up there. I've seen the name quite a lot while searching in the AL forums, most of the time with good compliments, so I thought they'd be somewhat trustworthy. But afaik they're also somewhat of a big-name pug garage in Malabe, so do you mean that we'd be better off finding some other smaller-scale technician? Would appreciate any input of recommendations in that case.

Yep, it's the 1.6 THP petrol. And with oil burning issues as you'd correctly guessed.

Unfortunately it wasn't changed under warranty afaik, not sure of the exact reason why, could've also just been us being ignorant about it. But the warranty was over when we started running into issues iirc, and the quotations for the engine rehaul were so exorbitant we decided not to go ahead with it.

    Thanks again!

Glad that you enjoyed the read 😁

The thing with the big name garages are that they not bad all the time, but when chance's arrive they take it!

Most 508 owners and even 3008/5008 get hold of a technician who works at carmart and gets work done at their residence or the techs residence. It’s actually much cheaper and the work quality is better.

Keep carmart at a distance for any software updates or parts on discount. You might be able to get a recon engine from the salvage cars imported from UK. Make sure that its the good engine type.

I’ll update my blog soon with all the horrors of them 508s 😅 JK

2.5L per 2500 sounds little serious. I would go asking around.

Carmart actually never did recalls or service campaigns in a proper manner, so Im not surprised. Even the BPGA unit was faulty and had a service campaign, but carmart did nothing.

    wow major OT.

so how many chicks you picked with FD1? Pulls near the ANC and Bishops College around 1.30? 😅

at 1.5 You could move into an AT170 from your previous list (a diesel for sure)  andddddd The Trad Sunny from your original two cars. 1.5 should fetch you a fairly OK Trad Sunny. (and needless to say a rather good Lancer Box)

Also 1.5 M is a ripe budget for numerous Jap diesel Sedans from the 90's . But tread carefully old diesels are a bit of a lottery. So I wouldn't suggest a diesel for a first car or for someone on a tight budget. 1.5 Should fetch you a slightly hard working Sunny SB13(Doctor Sunny-Diesel), Corolla CE90, Camry/Vista CV30 or a Bluebird SU13 The catch is people bought these when diesel was half the price of petrol and were used mostly as commercial vehicles (hauling stuff I kid you not - Specially these bigger sedans  with the larger boot space was a cheap reliable option for someone in Chilaw to haul coconuts) so these have been treated like someone treats a piaggio diesel tuk tuk . But I have limited experience with diesels of this era maybe @iRage can add more info on them.

I'm not going to confuse you further by adding Mazda's to the mix :D (but yes I dare say BG series Mazda's are in your budget of 1.5)

It's always better to target something in the higher end of a lower price band than go for a bottom of the barrel specimen of a higher price band. (for instance a Trad Sunny for 1.3 M would be probably a better condition than an AT170 corona for 1.3M)

Are you sure 406's are available for that price? I'd be a bit cautious about 406's below 2Mill - chances are those are hacked and/or having something like a Nissan GA15 engine powering them.  BTW  there was a 306 doing the rounds on FB  for 1.6M  - it seemed to be good.

The D8 406 is anyway under 2 million. Only the D9 goes over 2 million.

We ended up purchasing an MT FD1! :)

Ik it’s been ages since I made this post, I got busy with a bunch of things in between and even when I got to searching for vehicles, I was just being too picky. First I was sorta paranoid and considered curtain airbags to be crucial if I get t-boned or smth, which was asking for too much considering most vehicles which fit the other criteria I needed. And I think I missed some really good vehicles which were in some faraway provinces just by being too late, by waiting until my dad gets here from Jaffna to go check em out.

Later on I did stop being picky and did learn to go check em out asap if I’m interested. I did go and check out a Primera and 406.  As much as defensive driving is the biggest key to being safe, I still felt like having dual airbags gave me some sense of security, so that removed most good BN Primeras off the list. The one I checked ended up having loads of issues with a high price already, and I felt like I’d be better off going for something more expensive to begin with. Got a Greasemonkey report done on that too.

Did check a 406 executive too with an uncle of mine, and even though I did see some minor red flags here and there was thinking that it’s normal to find those in a car of that age and usage. Was seriously considering it for purchase, but did want a mechanical check up done. I’ve been in touch with Mr Aruna from Throve recently while trying to resolve an engine oil leak on dad’s 508. C**M**t was trying to rip us off at every turn and was quoting for some insanely expensive repairs (not to mention them having created a bunch of problems in the car themselves earlier, which is why we stopped going there from a couple years back for services), and D*m* where we have been giving it for services since then didn't have the necessary brand specific parts required, so Throve it was. Fortunately it wasn’t a big deal according to Mr Aruna so we’ve been managing with top-ups for now. Anyways he let us know after checking the number plate that the 406 had been involved in a major accident, and even though he repaired it, he wouldn’t advise going for it.

I was bummed I couldn’t go for it, but then this FD1 got listed the same night we were informed so about the 406. Didn’t waste any time at all in going to inspect it, so went the next day and got a Greasemonkey inspection done too. Ideally would’ve preferred to get one done at Staf***d too but the owner wasn’t coming to Colombo anytime soon. The Greasemonkey report seemed to be pretty fine as well. The owner was someone who dealt with FDs frequently too and was a petrol head, so I was reassured in some way cuz of that as well. Ofc there were some issues here and there but one can’t expect a used car to be completely problem free ig. So we decided to go ahead with the purchase.

Just got it home yesterday, took it out a couple of times afterwards but I’m still waiting to get the legalities and basic maintenance & issues sorted out before using it frequently. I’m still have quite a bit to go in mastering driving a manual, but hoping it’ll work out with experience. All in all I’m pretty happy with it, will keep y’all updated!

Thanks a lot to @matroska, @AVANTE & everyone else who replied to this post, really helped a lot!

Edit: It’s mechanically stock btw, but has a few cosmetic modifications. I still think it looks great and not over the top, but that’s just me ig. The front body kit/ lip is proving to be a bit of a hassle while exiting a road nearby, but the kit is all good other than that!IMG_6352.thumb.jpeg.bd4739dcf21dc3a54b90f1eea1ac3498.jpegIMG_6354.thumb.jpeg.8d5e2e1a0cfa7d59b7c2d2ea92d77f47.jpeg

Looks mean! Only 10 manual FD1’s made it to Lanka, so pretty special. Pulls tad bit faster than the auto with paddle shifters.

I remember doing 180 on the E03 at midnight about a decade ago. Not recommended now. Used to give some bigger more powerful cars a good scare.

Is the exhaust worked on or stock?

Try to get the seats redone in leather, ours had half leather like them vezis. Looked very premium. Ours was done to factory quality at deens.

Ironically… I also own a 508 now and was ripped-off at Carmart. Avoid that place. Find an independent technician who visits your place or you can drive to his place. These big name pug garages have a tendancy for tooth extraction and scamming.Right @AVANTE ?

    Is the 508 petrol?
If it is… Oil burning- just THP things. Was the engine changed/overhauled under warranty at carmart? The THP engine had a recall from Peugeot that carmart did for free.

    cheers!

    @iRage @matroska  Thanks again.

As mentioned earlier budget is 1.2M but I need a car for daily run and weekend long trips.

Suggest me a good model where I can move to 1.5M maximum.

It should be a best car in terms of long terms uses.

    Sedan, Comfortable, Reliable and affordable

    Please advise

If you are ok with slightly higher repair costs. The best car for 1.5Mil is probably the Peugeot 406 D8.

Looks good, drives good, good market, fuel is also very decent. Comfy, safe and has some class to it also.

You can bargain a good example under 16. Find a honest technician and you will be good to go. Please find a good car with all repairs done,or you will hate everything about Peugeot.

Or if you can go for 2.5Mil, you can get a nice D9 406 with sunroof, leather, cruise control, electric, heated seats yada yada. Can be sold in a week. Really good car.

    Dear friends

These days octane 95 is Rs.464.00 and 92 is 366.00. Such a big difference.

One of my friend is having a local agent imported Peugeot 3008 and he Is using 92 for TWO years without any issue (without any additives).

Also, a Peugeot garage owner (who had worked at local agent earlier) told me that 92 is ok for local agent version while UK vesion will get damaged by 92. (May be due to compression ratio difference in cars made for UK and South Asian region)

If you have a 3008 / 5008 imported by local agent and if you use octane 92, can you please share your experience (for how long you are using and are there any engine issues etc.)

UK 3008 / 5008 owners, if you use 92, can you please share your experience as well.

The agents specifically mention that only 95 octane is allowed. Plus the puretech engines are garbage. The mechs love it nobody else really. The fun starts at around 75k.

Stick to 95. Also the fuel quality is trash now. So not even 95 is trusted.

Price gap sucks yes, but overhaul bills cost 800k. And the HP fuel pump is 350k even imported.

  14. Every Business named here is known to screw people over.

The punchi car place is for the low -iq poor working class people who will vote for the same 225 and complain about taxes and what-not. The type who complain about a TIN number but will sell their sack to go to a Nordic country with >50 taxes.

I can go on and on, but need I really say more? Please tell me you weren’t inspired by the punchi car buggers cringey youtube channel with an ugly chick hosting?

“ The sudu oya mage wenwada man waGON R ekak oyalagen gattot” blokes love that channel.

Automiraj has linked up with them to scam people. Automiraj in general has subpar workmanship. Watch their very own youtube video, quality and finishing sucks.

Sterling is a hit or miss, got too big to handle and the mafia kind of took them over. Would not pay extra money to get that warranty.

Got a friend who’s a mech? These are simple cars. Someone with a brain and experience should fix it fast and efficiently. I fix my complex cars at home with a mech @AVANTE introduced. A beer and few thousand bucks is all it takes. Hard thing is actually getting the guy to show up as high in demand.

See now, thats why I buy unreliable cars only… I look cool stranded and the females dont seem to care win win. And I spend less money than most with a Jap ecobox… 😅😅

I’m actually looking at non oem options. The stock bulbs are not my favorite. It doesn’t have to be super cheap. But not too outrageous.

@iRage are these bulbs universal? Example the H7 xenon bulb on ebay, can it be used across any car that takes H7 and has xenon?

  16. We actually did have a hybrid fd3 alongside the fd1 that belonged to a cousin.
The fd3 is not known for its durability or its economy. IF you find a good example, it’ll be ok. But other than that, it’s not worth it.

Most in Lanka are hacked and the cell replacement almost never works. An aqua I know got cells replaced, but even that did not last long. It was replaced by the famous cell guy in the gampaha side.

Also on the FD1s with the hps, yes it leaked every 10 years. Worth it because the eps was worse to drive.

Also a plus for the FD1. Resale and maintenance is easier since most people don’t like to buy or repair hybrids.

but thats just my personal experience.
