  1. I was initially going to buy a Jeep Cj/Cb/willys. But they all have shady books and abused copies for sale. A BJ is awesome, but expensive and time consuming. The Mitsubishi Jeep is pretty common and easy on parts. Next up I would like a sahara 80. Or a Nissan Patrol.
  2. Keeping it the color as is. Just refreshing it. The parts were new. Didn't go for any used items. The used market is high and crazy. Our A6s 10k miles service cost 67 ? Gotta love these old school machines. They dont drain your wallet.
  3. You sure can Mr Sylvi. I am out of the country, but my brother lives in Colombo 5. If I am not mistaken you live in Colombo 3. I will ask him to come to see you. The work is planned to be done by the 15th August. I will PM you as soon as it's done! About the simplicity, very true. Just the good ol mechanicals,no complicated screens and tech. A basic set of tools would do the job for most repairs. Very hardy and robust.
  4. We had a 200O manual. Did the same figures as Perfmad. we got it for 15 in 2009(I think) and sold it for 16.65 in 2011. Solid car. Fun to drive. sits very low. Some might not like it. Very sporty for its price.
  5. The old GLA is tiny. Its only a hatch at best. Cramped inside. Cheap plastics. Yucky car. Hated the ride and engine groan. I had the 2.0 engine. plus the engines are made by Renault. Definitely not a quality merc product, just an entry level car for badge snobs. new one seems to be better, but I would still go for something else. BMW 225XE PHEV. That car looks like a Tata Indica/indigo. Uglyy. I would go for the X2 from your list. But the 2020 Facelift X1 is better(even better than the x2).
  6. No. Nothing original on them other than the body. Even those are replaced. All of them have Jap engines in them, and books are sold off for other vehicles it seems. Shame though. Would have loved a JEEP.
  7. Just wanted to update this thread. Bought a Mitsubishi Jeep instead of a JEEP Willys. I will post a link of the new thread for future reference. The reason we didn’t go for a JEEP was because the books are shady on them and most of them are missing the original US made engines. plus not many for sale and bloody expensive.
  8. So the list that’s being done up-to now. Changed Radiator and switched to coolant. changed Brake liners/pads/lines etc.Literary new brake system. Changed Clutch “packs” ,cables, etc. New handbrake cable and all new handbrake components. Full 4WD system overhauled. New differential. Rear Lights replaced. Fuel tank removed, cleaned, and floater replaced. Fuel meter is fixed. Batteries Serviced and charged. All bulbs changed. No LEDs, good ol halogen. All meters/lights/warning lights are up and running. All of them. Cost 78k for them all, not bad huh? Few more. Cant remember ? will update as I go. Sorry for not having pics. But hopefully anybody restoring a Mitsubishi Jeep will find this useful.
  9. Ok guys. Sorry for the lack of updates. As I am away I have no access to pics and progress daily. The Jeep is out of the garage after a Heavy mechanical refresh. It is currently in the paint shop. She's starting to look. The list of stuff that was done in the garage is looong, but soo satisfying. I'll leave a teaser... Number will be revealed after the retro plates are fitted in.
  10. Highest spec goes for even 7.5Mil
  11. The stock system has been fully changed. Since we are not going for them huge tires, or a lift. It might suffice, if not will convert to Disks. Trying hard to keep things stock. Because all retrofits are from vans and Lorry’s.
  12. Enjoy some pics. Our neighbors are like “ai malli 2016 L200 ekak tyeddi oka gatte? Pinance hira welada ? Leda wadi ne owala. Thel bausar “ ??
  13. Thanks for the detailed explanation bro. I just updated my original post with the plans for it. The engine was done up recently by the seller. We have given the vehicle to an independent 4DR expert. He is taking apart everything on the mechanical aspect. Yes we plan to do off roading, my brother is a big adventure guy and regularly goes on trips out there. We used our L200 all this time, but it takes a heavy beating. Plus that being common rail diesel doesn’t help. So we are obsessed with the mechanicals. Lights will be changed late into the project. We plan to keep it mostly stock. Only the absolute modern components will be fitted. suggestions always welcome. Thank you
  14. Hi guys. Hope Corona has not affected anybody. we were not planning on buying a Mitsubishi Jeep at all. But corona had us at home, so me and my brothers decided to get one and restore it. Finding one proved difficult, most have bad documents and ALL of them with open papers. Service records are non existent. Badly rusted and abused the hell out. But the demand seems to be heavy. Even the rust buckets went fast for insane prices. Most Jeeps are HEAVILY overpriced and covered up. Many of them had “sale paints” And big tires to fool the buyer. We went through the clasifieds for almost 2 months and checked close to 25 vehicles all over the country. Expensive to do so, as the mechanic had to be with us to check, etc. Finally landed on this. Its a J24 short wheel base safari model. Pre-facelift model. We went for this because it was pre 1971, it needs no eco test and the condition was satisfactory for the price. It needs much love though. The Jeep went straight to the garage from sellers house and is being done up as of now. I will update the list of things to be done and what our plans are.also pics will be shared. I am currently away from the country, so I'm waiting on my bro for updates. suggestions and opinions welcome! Just doing my part to get back AL from Thel higannas and other cheapos. Edit.added plans on top post for future reference! So my plans for the Jeep is as follows, 1. New radiator and cooling system restore & re clean. 2. Switch to coolant. 3. Brakes are being changed. Liners/pads and the full works. 4. Full 4wd system overhaul. 5. Clutch pack/whatever necessary is being changed. 6. Tires are being changed. Will not go for huge tires/rims because this will actively be used for heavy off-roading around the island. Will go for mud tires in the same sizing. 7. Wheels will be resprayed in silver(original color). 8. Rear and front lights will be changed (except the front headlights). 9. The rust is bare minimum and the paint is mostly excellent, so we will be dealing with rust and a respray over the bad areas. 10. Seats are being replaced and been done up in Synthetic Leather. Rear seats will be redone in original specs. Not the bench type. Will post pics as I go. 11. New double layer Canopy with openings on the sides. Full black. 12. AC is being installed. 13.Full service with ALL the Oils and Filters change. 14. interior meters will be restored to work and other switches/lights will also be fixed. 15. New steering wheel. 16.re carpeting of the full interior. will have more stuff to be done as we go. Engine,Gearbox and Chassis is perfect. Engine needs a paint on top though. Any mechanicals needed are being done in one go. Nothing is being spared on the running aspect.
  15. Bought a Mitsubishi Jeep 4dr5 (J20D-J24).

Being restored as we speak. Will open a thread soon.

  17. @Vikum Samarasinghe Drop everything. Evo Conversion. @AVANTE unleash thy evoness upon this young car guy. He shall have no sleep or peace untill he goes through it after our many ideas are unleashed on his naive self!
  18. My 2nd post went hidden.hmm any idea mods?
  19. WagonR guy was an idiot. He turned without stopping . His wheels even lifted. Plus the Subaru was waaaay to fast for that road. I guess the GonR is at fault here. Subaru owner is definitely Instagram type wanna be rich kid on insta/car spotters type. Lots of new rich yobos on the street with their expensive cars doing some crazy sh*t. Comments as usual were sad on the post. I make it a point to not view any comments on ANY social media platforms from now on. IQ level of many is worse than a rat.
