  1. these are usually used to detect harmful substances (gas leaks, etc...)
  2. Your 2019 Vitz is a 8 year old design....but the kicker is the 1KR engine is actually a 15 yar old design. It was not good then and it is not good now. It was introduced as an option for a budget car (for those who wanted a bit more than a kei car but didn't wnat a larger capacity engine). Toyota did not bother developing that engine at all (so yes...similar capacity engines from other manufacturers in the same segment of vehicle are much newer). What Toyota did focus on is developing the 1.3 and 1.5L engines...which completely change the car...and by most accounts as economical as the 1L 1KR in the real world
  3. Also...not sure about the Vezel...but the gasoline CHR is rated a bit more than what the A30 series RAV4 was rates at...so I suppose in real life it would be close to the RAV4 but a little bit better ?
  4. Cameras installed to the side of the side mirrors and sensors that detect anything close to the vehicles sides...yes you can install aftermarket ones...manufacturer installed ones usually have warning lights on the side mirrors/cluster/etc....
  5. But that seems to be the thing these days. An instance where design seems to be more important than function. But then again a thick C-pillar also implies greater impact absorption in case of a rear collision. So there is some function to it. Most of the new cars all the way from sedans to hatches seem to have that huge C pillar. I guess designers assume that with driver aid devices like blind-spot monitors and reverse cams the C-pillar being wide is okay...
  6. Sucks that Toyota does not offer this in Japan as a Hilux Surf....this feels a lot more utilitarian and rough than the Prado....One of the secret reasons I hate the Prado...the minute they started basing the Prado on the same platform as the Hilux Surf they just started killing each other.
  7. Nothing too bad. Most of these thigns are common wear and tear and are a part of the periodic pre-emptive maintenance schedule anyway. The only abnormalities would be the steering rack and the radiator; which again can be expected from a 10 year old car....you just need to figure out if you are willing to spend the money (which you will have to do no matter what you buy).
  8. So probably whatever cloth they used had some kind of strong petroleum compound or some white residual stuff; or the cleaner they use is too strong (but then the dash and other interior bits should also have such burns... Meguiars is not a god product but it is pretty good and probably the better one that is available in SL. 3M and Meguairs might be the same company but it is miles apart.
  9. Well..for a gasoline crossover...yes...you are only going to get about 8kmpl on average (I said AVERAGE....some get a bit higher..some a little bit lower). Our 2007 RAV4 (we owned from when it was 6 months old till now); gets about 7in SL (about 6 when I drive in SL because I get to travel in the thickest of traffic)..it got about 8 on average when we used it in Japan. I had three other RAV4 of the same type in 2 other countries and those two got the same fuel figures. Our CR-V did a bit better than that in SL...close to 9. My friends and the short term X trails I have used got about the same as well. I had a A10 and A20 series RAV4s as wel and those got close to 8ish bt those had smaller engines (2000cc as opposed to the 2400cc of the A30 series RAV4). If you want more fuel efficiency..then you need to look at a Hybrid crossover...a Hybrid Harrier gets a bit more than that..even though the Harrier is a hybrid the fuel efficiency is not that great because some of them have large gasoline engines....a new Hybrid X Trail is pricey and an old one is probably going to cost you in Hybrid system fix ups before using. XTrail Hybrid was not that efficient either....You can look in to a diesel crossover (specifically the Korean ones) but then the purchase price will be a bit higher than a Petrol RAV4, etc...Even a vehicle like the Rush only got a bit more fuel efficiency than the others (heavier body for a an engine designed for a sedan sized car, etc...). You could look in to CHRs and Vezels (but the Vezel has the DCT niggles if not used properly...but you could go to a Vezel gasoline one). If you are just looking for the feel...then fine...go buy a properly maintained RAV4 or something where most of the depreciation has finished. But do not spend a lot expecting that you will make up for it in fuel efficiency or whatever. For most Japanese cars 140K is not a high mileage and it certainly is not a high mileage for a BMW. What matters is if the car has been taken care of properly during that 140K.
  10. Well...Toyota (being the parent company of Daihatsu) has been teamed up with Suzuki for about 3 or 4 years now (with the more stronger buy in to each other happening between late last year and start of this year)....part of the agreement was that Toyota shares their Hybrid tech with Suzuki and share development of small EV vehicles (and even share models (they did not specify in which markets). When Toyota signed the agreement it was obvious that in many ways it was Toyota plugging in Daihatsu in to Suzuki (as that is Toyota's small car arm). The huge concern was that this would pretty much completely take away any product differentiation between Suzuki and Daihatsu.
  11. The new Toyota GrandAce will be sold in Japan as a luxury mini executive coach. Since the Alphard/Vellfire is going ot merge in to one vehicle Toyota wants to put this as a larger option.
  12. I've seen some people use it in SL (on FB). So like Fusso MirrorShine and stuff maybe you can only find it at the specialty shops...
  13. ...and if you see that is what most were trying to do at the beginning and the main reason the moderators still have not locked this thread despite all the off-topic posts (we have even hidden irrelevant and insulting posts). However, a direct and honest review of a vehicle is not posting youtube videos of the vehicle in languages that none of us understand (except for one which just listed out all the accessories in the car in Sinhala) and bashing cars that obviously have proved itself. That is when things went to the dog house. Moderators stepped in because the posts were going no where and there clearly was deception. So lets hope things improve from here onwards....
  14. Yeah...but still shocking...because the prop shaft and the rear diff hump and axle housing is already there....so the addition would be the front axles and transfer case........so interesting...I wonder if the AWD and 2WD variants have different diffs requiring a different housing in the back...and even a stiffer prop shaft....hmmm
  15. There is nothing wrong with Daihatsu cars They are the market leaders for kei cars in Japan and is pretty much owned by Toyota. Toyota gets Daihatsu's small cars as sells them as Toyota and Daihatsu takes Toyota's large cars and sells them as Daihatsus. There is a lot of R&D and tech sharing going on between the two companies. The Move is sold as a Subaru and a Perodua (or is atleast based on it). In some countries the Move was sold as the Daihatsu Charade. Which Move are you looking at ? THe Move comes with a 660cc engine and in some markets came with a 1000cc engine. Usability wise, being a kei car it will be quite handy and economical doing city runs in traffic. Driving at highway speeds, pulling up mountains with the car full and with a lot of luggage will make you push the engine hard. Being a somewhat uncommon car you might have to do a bit of work to find body parts (You can always have them imported) Engine components are shared with some other Daihatsu (and depending on the model even Toyota) cars so you should be able to find some. It won't be as easy as walking in to any random shop and buying the part though...
  16. Okay....lets stop this....as entertaining as this is this serves no one any good. @Saranga_S or Roshan...thank you for giving us a view about your cars. I believe the only other post that needs to be made on this thread is to post actual pics of the car so we can either all stop talking about it or talk about something more sensible.
  17. As Davy mentioned....we see a lot more information about members and their posts than the standard members. We are not basing this purely on email addresses attached to usernames/handles. You are not providing an unbiased view on anything except make unfounded claims and totally disregard any constructive critisism by citing more unfounded facts. A member can create several accounts for legitimate reasons (if there are any that does not involve seeking professional psychiatric help) and as long as it makes a positive contribution. Not for deceit. Right now our issue is not with the vehicle but with your deceitfulness.
  18. Right now your main concern should be what you want ! All those vehicles are in different categories and offer different things and are good at certain things whilst are bad at others that the other car is good at. Example...the Allion is comfortable....but it is not as fun to drive as the Grace; and the Grace being fun is not as comfortable as the Allion. Then the list goes on....so what do YOU want in the first place ? Do you need a Crossover ? If you do need one do you really need a 7 seater ?
  19. @Saranga_S....we have strong (technical) evidence to prove that you and Roshan321 are the same person (there is a reason why some of us said certain things in certain ways as we were testing out your legitimacy). @Davy is one of the members of the admin/moderator team who has access to this evidence, so there is a reason why he is stating what he is stating. If any of our members want to create multiple accounts and give in to their multiple personality disorders..so be it..as long as the contributions these different accounts make are positive and meaningful. If you had given honest and balanced feed back of a vehicle; then this would not be an issue. There is no vehicle on this planet that is perfect but it is a bit hard to fathom that a completely new and unproven vehicle is superior than a host of vehicles that have proven itself for almost 20 years. What you and Roshan321 are resorting to is just simply guerrilla marketing tactics where you just use one account to re-enforce whatever the other account has stated (with no factual evidence other than video clips in languages none of us understand that are single sided). You are more than welcome to post pics of your vehicle and even do an honest review of your vehicle. Please do not post warranty certificates and purchase invoices as they contain private information. Posting private information on a public forum is not a good idea and we do not want to be responsible for having some poor DFSK 580 owner's personal data published over here (without the person's knowledge). I do believe it is time we clean up this thread and maybe even lock it up.
  20. Hmmm...good point...actually...the Axios and Vitzies have always had a MT variant Just that normal people did not buy them. They were mostly bought by fleet owners, people who were going to mod it, etc...
  21. The new Corolla Sedan and Corolla Touring wagon with the 1.2L would also be an option but those come with only a 6MT. THe Hybrid 1.8 and Gasoline 1.8L will attract taxes.
  22. I am sorry but the above few comments you have made takes away all your credibility and your understanding of build quality and your ability to distinguish materials... 1. The X-Trails control arms and other suspension mounts or sub-frame components are as good as any of the other vehicles like the CRV,RAV4, etc...and these vehicles are used around the world for 100 of thousands of km everyday. I know for a fact that these control arms are made out of strong alloys...For your reference..here are two pictures...the old rusted out one is part of the lower suspension and control components of a 13 year old X-trail. The black CA is a replacement unit brand new from DFSK. Look at the quality of the welds around the bushing inserts. The X trail has a stronger and much more cleaner weld (if it is a weld or complete molded unit I do not know) what the DFSK unit seems to have a much thinner weld. So I do not know what you mean by saying the DFSK's control arms are better. (just so you know...I am 99% average car buyers or even enthusiasts go compare control arms of vehicles yet alone look at the control arms of their own cars unless something is off....so...hmmmm The XPander does NOT have poor build quality. Far from it...it is neither better or any worst than cars like the Innova. The difference is it uses a lot of hard plastics and synthetic material for the interior as the vehicle is for developing markets and harsh usage. Hard plastics and synthetic materials do not mean poor build quality. Funny how you say the MG crossover interior looks cheap. It looks exactly like the interior of the DFSK580...exactly ! replace the rectangular air vents with circular ones they both are the same ! So when you were buying a car you checked how much money they have invested in production plants ?
  23. Absolutely and categorically NO ! The RAV4, X-Trail and Harrier weight difference between the AWD and FF variants is within the 40-60kg range. NOT as high as you say it is. The most significatn contributor to that weight is actually grade and AWD specific accessories. So whilst people say the AWD variant is more fuel hungry than the 2WD variants of these vehicles...it really is not so....In Japan a friend of mine had a 2WD RAV4 of the same thing I had....on long road trips we both ran out of petrol around the same time and we both pumped about the same amount of fuel each stop. I remember we crossover kids were hanging out and the AWD guys' vehicles were doing only about .5 - 1 kmpl less than what the 2WD kids were getting. Mind you this was a good 8 or so years ago when engine efficiency was not as good as it is now a days. but yes...the the Hiace AWD and FR variants have about 110kg in weight difference. I thought vans would be lesser because it already has a full rear diff and prop shaft and needed only transfer case, center diff and front axels....
  24. @Saranga_S.,presuming that you are a legitimate poster and the above is a sincere post: The main concern with almost all Chinese cars is longevity....even the Cherries were quite good at the beginning but it did not stand the test of time. For most Chinese cars the main components are usually borrowed from other manufacturers and the components themselves are not bad. The issue is the engineering and the effort and attention to detail that has gone in to putting these components together. It would be nice to see a Chinese car that actually is decent (well..MG is not too bad..although it is not entirely Chinese). The Chinese can do it....after all they manufacture Toyotas and other Japanese and European cars for these manufacturers (and under license) on their own and those are decent. Finally, anyone who buys a gasoline, mid to full size Crossover and expects anything more than 8kmpl on average is clearly delusional and hugely mistaken. So 8ish is what can be expected and that is it....I am sure the agent advertises a lot more because that is what Sri Lankans get excited about.
  25. What do you mean by order ? Import one ? The Belta is too old for you to import a used car from Japan (it stopped production in 2012) and in the Belta equivalent of the Vios in other countries stopped production in 2013. The IST went on to get produced a few more years after that. The only Belta model is the P90 series (from 2005 - 2012) and the corresponding ist versions would be P60 (2002 - 2006ish ?) and the P110 from 2006/2007 - 2016ish), Where technicalities are concerned...they both use the same B platform (i.e. the skeletal floor-pan is the same, the Vitz also uses the same B platform); as a result, some of the suspension components are the same in fit and measure but slightly different in other specs. Then there are other components that are the same (but then most of these components are the same in almost all the Toyotas in the category) The Belta came in 1000cc (1KR engine found in the Vitz) and 13000cc (2NZ for 4WD and 2SZ for 2WD)....and the IST in 1300 and 1500 ccs in the P60 series and 1500cc and 1800cc in the P110 series. The 4WD Belta and the 1300cc P60 IST shared the same engine. Other than that they are different cars....one is a sedan and the other is a hatch.....the Vitz was considered a sub compact hatch, the belta a sub compact sedan and the Ist a sub-compact hatch that is positioned as being slightly larger and somewhat youthful and carefree.
